    Nearly perfect sci-fi RPG.

Although it has some glitches and gameplay issues this is still one of the best RPG's ever made. The violence is not at all graphic and the language isn't bad either. The only real reason not to let kids play the game is the sexual content. It's not explicit but you might not want you're children to experience the brief sexual encounters in this game.

    not bad

the story is good i have played it and did not see the sex scene but i do know about personally if it can happen but it is not likly or a forced part i think you have to look at it in a different light and i dont understand why common sense media talked about the same sex option was brought up i dont want m kid seeing sex but that goes either way it should only be judge on how graphic it is but i digress the game in all is not that bad with violence or anything else and should be reduced to a teen rating

Only M if you steer it that way

This game forces you as the character to make your own choices good or bad and live with the consequences of those choices. The M rating for the game must be associated with the potential for a sex scene since it can't be the violence. Once my character told the alien "thanks but no thanks" sex wasn't an issue in the game. The idea of parental guidance isn't to buy the game and leave the kid locked in his room with it for hours on end. Play the game and discuss it you may find that the moral dilemas stretched your kids mind a little....

    mild and good

my kid were begging me for this game but I was worried about the sexual stuff in the game so I went and played it and it was really mild. There is one sexual part in the game and it is about the same as the sexual stuff in the james bond movies. as for blood it is about the same as call of duty and there is not much swearing. I say it is a good game to get young teen's

    great game for teens

Mass effect is by far one of the best games I have other played, IT has a perfect blend of action and RPG elements. I bought this game as a game for me and not for my kids ( ages 12 and 14.) but after playing it for a few day's I relived it was not as bad (content wise) as I thouht was. The gore level was very low (a bit lower than on halo 3) and the profanity was breif and mild. (damn, hell, and if you take the right route a son of a b**ch) and as for the sex and nudity I found it was all verbal and was pretty mild. my conclusion is that mass effect is a great game for in ther early teens to an adult level.

Amazing game!! Not worth M rating!!!

This game is amazing!! It dosnt deserve the M rating, sure there is a small sex scene but there is nothing shown, it is only suggestive. Also there is a very small amount of blood and language in the game. In short I would suggest this game for anybody 14 or older. Hope this helps in your decision.

BioWare is, was, and always will be the best RPG publisher on the market. If someone asks me what this game is like, I respond that it's like playing a movie. It is by far the most cinematic game experience I've ever had, especially with the subtitles off. If parents are concerned about sex, I suggest giving this game a chance anyway. The Fox News spot is NOT, I repeat, NOT to be trusted. The pseudo-journalists who report there are right wing, ultra-conservative nut jobs who should get their facts in order, and maybe actually PLAY the game before ripping it apart. Though some parents may find the sex a no go because you do see a woman's buttocks and some provocative dancers in a club. It is ridiculously fun and reminds me of Knights of the Old Republic (one of the best games of all time), except this improves on it and makes the scenes more cinematic. Now, no one immature who just likes shooting will not be enthralled with this game like me. It's really talky, but that's good for people who like depth and story. It's very story driven. It has one of the best stories of any video game. It's great. Parents should just weigh the violence and sex against the story and morality. Absolutely great.

    Ok this is rediculious!!!!

I have this game. I love this game! It's not that sexual and the sex is actually artistic and loving although you can make it "raunchy" i suppose (even though it's comepletely humorous the things they say.) Also, the violence isn't even worrysome! There's minimal blood and no gore. The story also shows how far people can fall if they traverse down the darker path. You also make countless moral choices that all carry over into the sequel via your hard drive. Overall, this game deserves a solid 13+ rating and is a must for any and all adventure, role playing genre, and/or sci-fi junkies!

The best science fiction game ever made

This game was originally rated T, if that tells you anything. So, this is simply the best science fiction game ever created, nuff said. You might be cautios of this game because of the sex controversy, bottom line, NO NUDITY, NO SEXUAL DAILOGUE, ALL YOU SEE IS A BUTT PEOPLE!!! The sex isn't bad, period. The blood is little, and language is minor. So, what are you waiting for? Go buy this masterpeice for yourself. 13+

Brilliant and exciting Action-RPG with great story, worth exploring!

Mass Effect is probably the best game on the XBox 360. It has great graphics, a wonderful story which will surely have players emotionally captivated. The action is fast and fun, and the levels are varied and memorable. Mass Effect is an amazing game that anybody mature enough to appreciate it will love.

    awesome game

there is alot of shooting.politics but not much.you can choose your charaters history, about there parents, gender, class, and a bit more.if you are worried about the sexuel theme its about 20 seconds long barely shows anything, expect to see a blue butt and thats it.the game has a great storyline there are not many cursessuch as s--t and a-s and son of a b---h thats all i think and it all depends on how you have your charcter act.the worlds are large in the gme there are many ways for you to make money [nothin sexul like selling your charcter,or selling and/or doing drugs.there is very little blood just some impaled humans but that has no or some times very little blood.it is an awesome RPG i recomend you buy it.

A superb game! A step forward in the direction of "Games as Art".

I would like to start off by saying this game has the best story out of ANY video game. EVER. Hands down, no holds barred, it is THE best. Humanity has just unearthed alien ruins on Mars which has in turn given them sufficient technology for Faster Than Light Travel. Upon expanding out of our solar system, we discover a massive space station dubbed "The Citadel". Inside this beast is the Citadel Council and its respective embassies. The purpose of this council (composed of Salarians, Asari, and Turians) is to make decisions that will best advance the state of Citadel Space, with each of the species lower on the political food chain using their embassies to try and advance the state of their systems as well. With the Council being watched so closely and having tense political associations with species in the Verge (an area where species who refuse to acknowledge the Council's authority reside) it cannot always take action on the record. Thus they have a shadow ops group know as the Specters that do their dirty work. As it turns out, one of them has gone rouge and is attempting to wipe out humanity. He sees them as developing to fast, and becoming the Council's pet; a view shared by many species. Unfortunately, hos treachery is not just to us but to the entire galaxy... I'll leave it at that so not to spoil anything. Naturally it is your job to stop him when you become the first human Specter. That means that you operate outside the law, which is why I marked the social behavior area. There are times when you have to make hard decisions. Do you shoot a slave trader in the head? Allow and entire species to die out? It can be very difficult at times which is a testament to the developers- you actually care about the characters and the people you encounter. On a separate note, the graphics are amazing and the tactical, squad based combat is intense, but nothing overtly violent or bloody. The voice acting is also top notch and the ability to travel the galaxy in you ship is great as well. But for some of you there may be a large turnoff. The dreaded sex scene. While not horribly raunchy, you do see a side shot of your character creeping up seductively to another person in bed and sex is implied. Your character also says something along the lines of "I need more of that" after it is done. Fortunately you are buzzed over the com by your pilot. Fortunately, this scene is entirely avoidable if you so wish. Lastly, there is some minor language but nothing to write home about. A b---h here or d--n there. Nothing bad. All in all this is the best game to be released this year and a MUST buy.

    Loved it

This game was amazing. The only problem some might have with the content is the sex scene, which is hardly a sex scene, other than that it was pretty clean. It wasnt gory at all and there was not any harsh language I can think of. Bottom line a must buy for anyone 11-12+.

    Sex Scene

If the only thing that makes you reluctant about buying this for your kid is the sex scene don't worry about it. The scene only is about 20 seconds and shows nothing more than an alien chick's blue butt. This isn't even as close to as bad as any movie scene.

I'd actually say I liked Knights of the Old Republic over this

With all the immense hype and and years of waiting, I was expecting to be completely blown out of the water by this game. And in most respects I was. The graphics are absolutely gorgeous-- my jaw literally dropped when I popped the disc in. Imagine the CG used in game cut-scenes, and now apply that to the entire game. Simply incredible, especially given the absolute enormity of the game and the galaxies-- not just planets, but galaxies. And despite many mild complaints from the critics about the combat, I didn't have any problems at all with it in terms of enjoyment-- I found it quite fun. But for some reason, it just didn't grab me by the horns and reel me in like Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (BioWare's first massive, choice-driven sci-fi game). One thing that I think was an issue was the story just wasn't as well written as in KOTOR. It was still interesting, there just wasn't as much immersion, and the little twists and turns in the story didn't completely knock my socks off as in KOTOR (whose twist I would put right up there with The Sixth Sense). The other thing was the driving controls and responses with the Mako (the car you use to explore planets) could be downright annoying-- but most of the time it was fine, but there were enough moments that it made an impact on the playing experience. And though I liked the dialogue wheel they used, it still didn't feel too much more immersive than the text choice you had in KOTOR (though the movie-style direction used for these moments-- which take place constantly-- were incredibly well-done). Also, the classes and powers weren't really as fleshed out as I would have liked, and it didn't really seem like it made much of a difference in terms of class choices (perhaps, in part, because you can't control your allies' actions outside of biotic powers-- or I just never figured out how). I'm not sure really how to describe it-- I just wasn't as involved with the game as I had expected. And as for content-- first of all, I think CSM went completely over-board with giving sexual content a "red." I found very little sexual content-- there are alien dancers (whom are not erotic at all, and there is no nudity) and, IF YOU CHOOSE, there is a tasteful but sexual scene where your characters can have sex (the scene is only about 50 seconds long), but you do not see any nudity except a brief glimpse of a backside. I really think that CSM just gave it a red because you can choose to pursue a lesbian relationship with an alien, but outside of that scene, there's nothing sexual in the dialogue that eventually leads up to the scene. Not to mention, take these facts into account: there is no sexual dialogue in the game (so there's really not any "mature content" that is sexually oriented throughout the game except that one scene as CSM implies); the much-talked about scene does not occur until right before the climax of the game, so it takes quite a while to get to it; and the player has to complete plenty of dialogue after EVERY mission that influences the main story line to receive the ability to ignite the scene, so that too takes a while. So, in all fairness, the sexual content deserves a yellow, I think CSM just wanted to approach the matter overly-cautiously because of the option to participate in a homosexual relationshipt. But as I said, it's nothing that happens definitely in the game. And as for violence, most of the time there isn't blood except certain mutated humans, and it's not very intense. Language is also only moderate, and never reaches the extreme. There are heavy and literary themes in the game that are likely not to be understood or picked-up by younger players, which raises the maturity level, as do many of the human and emotional conflicts that occur. But outside of all this, on a pure fun-factor, I would say it's definitely a must-buy (along with other 2007 gems, like Call of Duty 4 and Super Mario Galaxy). I just simply wasn't as drawn in by the game as KOTOR, and, so, being very well-versed with BioWare's previous works (also including Jade Empire), I just had slightly higher expectations. But for anyone who has never played those games, this story and dialogue-driven game is likely to blow your mind as KOTOR did the first time I played it. And since I disagree with the age-- and also understand that many gamers my age want to, but are not allowed to play most Mature games-- I would suggest my own age level-- and based on all the content in the game, I would have to say 15 and up are fine for this game-- partially because in this game all the results are based on the character's choices, so no bad choices, no negative content; and also because the game simply isn't that bad in terms of content. Without the one optional sex scene, this would have been Teen, in all honesty.
