Number Raiders
What’s the Story?
This math game for kids ages 4 to 7 mimics the classic Space Invaders arcade game. Kids answer math questions by shooting at numbered space rocks. The space rocks are arranged in rows that descend slowly. Players control a spaceship located below the rows of numbered space rocks.
If kids shoot the correct answer, all the space rocks in the row explode, leaving valuable space gems which, when shot down, earn points. If kids shoot the wrong rock, it falls down and may damage the spaceship. The game sorts the math into three levels of difficulty; the easiest level drills number identification and the hardest level tests two-digit addition and subtraction. Two players of differing abilities can compete for best score; each player can play on a level appropriate for his or her learning.
Is It Any Good?
NUMBER RAIDERS is addictively fun, which is a good thing, because the longer kids play, the more math they practice. The downside? Since there's only one game, it's a little pricey at $18.
