What Parents Need to Know

This review of Zoey 101 was written by Anise Hollingshead

Parents need to know that this game is a collection of Mini games which aren't really connected to the TV show on which it is based. The content is a mix of arcade and logical games, and they aren't tied together with a story.

Families Can Talk About

Talk to your kids about the media in their life. We have more tools and tips that can help
  • Families can talk about why they make games based on TV shows. Did you rent or buy the game because you're a Zoey 101 fan? Did you expect it to be more like the TV show? How do you decide what games you want to try? Why would boys want to scare girls with pranks? Why wouldn't the girls scare the boys? Families might want to discuss differing perceptions of boys and girls at school. Are boys and girls really that different? Do you think it's better to attend a coed school or a single-sex school? Why?

What’s the Story?

In ZOEY 101, the characters from the Nickelodeon TV show only serve as menu icons for the games. Kids play the Mini games in trios for three semesters (levels), with a final game at the end. Players must successfully complete each game, then a dare, and then a final challenge. The dares and challenges are randomly chosen from the three games in the level. Close

Is It Any Good?

The games are an assortment of arcade and logical thinking-type games. Kids will enjoy Jet-X Racing, a racing game; Sushi Fund Raiser, a Diner Dash clone that requires you to quickly fill customer's orders; and Rat Chase, a logical thinking game. But games like Wrestling, Basketball, Disc Golf, and Prank Week will disappoint players because there are uninventive.

A good collection of Mini games is always fun on a handheld, but these games aren't very good and the whole package suffers from bad presentation and implementation. Each semester offers three different games that have to be completed then played again as dares and challenges. If one of the games is hard to beat, young kids will not be able to advance very easily. Only a few cut scenes will remind you that this game has anything to do with Zoey 101.
