All-time favorite game
This game is an incredible, easy-to-play game with amazing multiplayer and graphics along with a memorable, albeit a little short, story. The story involves 4 main terrorists called "The 4 Horsemen of the Apocolypse". They want to divert US and British troops to the Middle East while they attempt to return Russia to a communist state. There are some very memorable moments, such as gunning from an AC-150 gunship and escaping off of a sinking boat. One in particular at the end of the mission "shock and awe" is something you won't expect and you will easily remember for awhile. I played this game 2 years ago and a lot of the big moments in the game are still fresh in my mind. The game has become more violent. When you shoot somebody and they are next to a wall, expect some blood to splatter and stick to the wall. There is no gore, but the incredible realism the game offers can make the violence seem a bit rougher. The multiplayer is the true meat of this game. As you get kills, finish matches, and complete challenges like getting 50 kills with a weapon or falling from a high place and surviving, you gain exp. Once you earn enough exp, you level up and are given more weapons and new perks. Perks are advantages such as more accuracy when firing from the hip, holding your breathe longer when sniping, or dropping a live grenade upon dying. You can hold three at once and they can be used in a variety of ways to give your character a certain role on the battlefield. While you can choose between 5 classes, you can create your own with unlocked weapons and perks. There are a ton of weapons and most of them handle differently, but certain pistols and sniper rifles feel a lot alike. Also, as you get kills and headshots with weapons they upgrade, allowing you to attach new scopes, silencers, paint jobs, and more to your weapons. Once you reach the maximum level, you can start over and re-earn everything in prestige mode. It may feel odd giving up everything you've earned to start back at level one, but it gives the exp system longer legs and gives you bragging rights. Also, if you get certain kill streaks (3, 5, and 7), you get more advantages, such as seeing the enemy on radar, calling in airstrikes, or sending a helicopter to do your bidding, respectivly. The multiplayer maps are very well done for the most part, but all of them (except shipment) are found in the single player campaign. I don't know why this is a problem, but some people don't seem to like it. Also, there are no rideable vehicles, so if hopping in them in Halo of Battlefield is your favorite part of said games, you may not like it. The graphics here are amazing. All of the guns, equipment, vehicles, and buildings look nearly photo-realistic with incredibly tiny details present. Textures look like they actually have texture. If you look for the little things, you will be even more amazed. The game's presentation is incredible. Overall, it is hard to say anything bad about this game. It's incredibly balanced, has some of the best multiplayer ever, and is highly memorable. It's been out for 2 years and it's still $55 used at certain retailers, which is saying something. It feels a lot like other call of dutys, so if you like them you will love this. If you're looking for a great shooter and still haven't picked this one up, do yourself a favor. You won't be disappointed.

Over-rated
I play this game quite a lot. Yes, there is violence. Yes, there is swearing... But think about the fact that it's a video game. Know your child. If they are mature enough not to pick up the swearing, I think it's fine... There is a little bit of blood, however, there is an option to turn it off. I play this game all the time with the blood off, and it's great. If you think your kid is mature enough not to pick up the bad language, then this game is just fine.

Best Game EVER!!!!
How is not saving the world from terrorists good? Also, war is justified if it's morally correct. It worth to risk yourself to save others. So because a game is realistic, it's bad? This game should be praised for its graphics, story, and gameplay. I support things that like to push the boundaries. Lets not become conformist and be individuals.

Good for teens, not for the real young ones
I will start off by saying this is an amazing game. I play it a good bit when I have time. My parents were always against these kinds of games, but a few months ago they decided to let me buy this game. They have no problem with it as it is not very violent. Some blood, definitely some language, but if your kid knows not to use it then it shouldn't matter too much. They've heard it all before. So parents, if you want to get your kids a good game without too much violence, I would say this is your safest bet. And it'd make a good quality game for christmas for a good price! Plenty of people still online, but don't worry about language there, just block them from the parental settings and you won't hear a thing.

Great shooter with a bit of blood and profanity.
This game would have to be my favorite Call of Duty game. PARENTS, there is some blood. At one part, you shoot somebody's arm off and blood splats out and keeps draining out of his shoulder. Nothing too bad though. In terms of language, you'll hear sh*t no more than 10 times in the game. And then you have you're classic, British accent: "What the bloody h*ll was that, you b*stard!" Nothing too bad. This game should be rated T. Parents, don't let that M rating fool you.

For mature tweens and most teens
First things first: this game is great. Period. The game is about war, if there is a problem with any kind of violence in your house don't buy this game. In no way does it seek to provide a splatter fest but the violence and action is fairly realistic. The cinematics can be intense but nothing disturbing. Themes are good (comraderie, duty, patriotism).

Best Game Ever... OKAY for anyone over the age of 13.
This game is absolutly amazing. Firsy off, the graphics are just jaw dropping, atleast on the PS3. Then, if you are worried about the language, dont be, there was only 2 or 3 uses in the whole game, and the worst was sh*t. Language may differ online. The vilence is noting that would make you turn away, NO, its something that will grab your attention and look at the cinematic graphics. The blood is nothing major, just a small cloud of blood floats in the air for a bit. REALLY, if you are worried about your child playing this because of blood, language, or violence, I suggest you let him play it, welcome him to the real world. This stuff is happening NOW. You cant hide it from him, its in the news everyday. And its not like its GTA where U r the teerrorist. NO, you are the NAVY. BTW, BEST GAME EVER PLAYED.

I've seen worse
This isn't that bad of a M rated game. If you play games like gears of war 2, you will most definitely see my point. Yes, they do say s*** a few times, but that's why it has it's M rating. Overall, it's a very fun game and a lot go live.

Great Game
There is a reason this game won awards. First off, the graphics are very good. There is a little blood, but nothing bad. As much as I enjoy Common Sense Media I have to say it is to over protective. I would overall trust the adult reviews rather than the CSM reviews.

OK game, but still some "Not Good" parts
CoD 4 is an alright game to play, as for CoD 5 is a little bit more gory and swearing is bad. I "think" you can take of blood and swearing in CoD 4 so that's a good advantage for teenagers. One thing about CoD 4 is that there are terrorists and you play in Iraq. Ok, that's not that bad but still.....

This is probably the best shooter I have ever played! There is a little bit of blood (a small cloud if your up close) but nothing really gory that with make you turn away in discust. The graphics are pretty amazing and will really pull you into the game. I would say that it is appropriate for kids 13+.

Great game, but it's up to the parents
COD4 is probably one of my favorite games. It mostly revolves around shooting constantly. There is violence, but not enough to make you look away. When you shoot an enemy, there is what looks like a cloud of blood. After that, they fall and die. Sometimes (depending on where they were shot) they crawl around and still try to get you. The questionable parts are the cinematics. In one, you are an important leader and you see the whole execution process(of yourself) in first person. You also see the death(by nuclear reaction) of one of you characters in first person. Not too gory, just know your kid. Language isn't bad(worst is the s word). For learning purposes,(if there are any) it shows how intense war really is. There are realistic sounds, sights, and actions that real soldiers experience while on the battlefield. Overall, this is a great game; it's just up to the parents to decide whether their kids should own it.
