It just deppends

This is a game where you shoot aliens but no people. The aliens are violent and may be disturbing to some kids. There is quite a spill of blood but 90% of it is alien blood. It is blue green, orange, and sometimes red. when u shoot the certain aliens that have red blood there is ALOT! when you shoot a dead PERSON blood flies out and dripps on the ground. You can also kill your own guys and there will be blood. You can also go up to aliens and whack them with your gun, or hammer.

There is alot of H*LL. I mean ALOT! you almost always hear what the H*LL. *ssh*ole is used. And so is Sh*t a couple times. B**tards is used maybe about 15 times in the game. Son of a B*t*h is used only once or twice. D*MN is used quite a bit... D*MN the aliens! is yelled a couple few times. I WAANNA SHOOT IM IN A REAL BAD MOOD! is used sometimes, angrily. die Die DIE! is used alot angrily too. If you go on Xbox Live with a headset you CERTANLY will hear the F word ALOT! and other curse words. The violence is not that intense either.
But it mostly just depends on your kids' attitudes.
If your kids run around the house cursing and screaming DIE!!!!
don't get this game for them

The Truth of The Game

OK so I read some of the reviews and thought to myself "none of these give a complete picture" Halo is a vast universe of games movies and comic books, its full of sacrifice, secrets, and heroes, one review can't hold the huge amount of information on this subject, I would recommend checking out halo wiki for more info. Let me just clarify a couple facts covered in this article, the covenant is not some crazed alien race out to destroy earth, that's only part of it, the covenant's government is run by self proclaimed "prophets" they've banded together several alien species to aid in finding ancient "Forerunner" technology, the Forerunners were a race long before humans who controlled most of the galaxy, their empire was prosperous and grand, until they ran into a alien parasite known as " the FLOOD" the flood is a creature that consumes living organisms and and turns them into a zombie like state, the forerunners fought a long war with this creature, but after losing so much, they decided the only way to destroy the flood was to take away its only life force, so they built huge ring worlds known as Halos, these were built to self destruct and destroy all life in the galaxy therefor starving the flood of its life force, their plan was to activate the rings from a safe location and then reseed the galaxy, sadly this never happened, the rings activated, but the forerunners were never seen again. now the covenant "prophets" believe that the forerunners built the ring as a portal to elevate themselves to a god like status, so they've made the entire point of their religion looking for these rings in order to start "the great journey" but when they finally run into humanity in the year 2525 the prophets soon learn the error of their ways, instead of admitting their mistake the decide to cover it up bye declaring that humanity is an affront to the gods and must be destroyed, or else "the great journey" won't happen, this sends the military into a blind rage, they attack our planets with with extreme force, we don't stand a chance against their advanced technology. that's what the game centers around, that's why were fighting, O.D.S.T or Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, are a brave group of soldiers who more or less sky dive out of ships orbiting the planet, they land in key locations, to help in special operations, what do you think good role models? and seriously since when is blood violent? its inside you right now, if your child doesn't know about blood their gonna be in for a huge shock, oh its just killing aliens! hurray death of other species! language shouldn't be an issue trust me try theirs way worse at school, kids drop F*** bombs all the time, over all this is a great game most kids just want this for the forge any way, although I wouldn't recommend voice chat on Xbox live for any one under 14 though.

One of the best and most innaccuratley rated games.

This is a great game, and M rating isn't too far off, but T would be more accurate. First off, its not a good choice for 11-, but 12 is a good age to think about it. Commonsense had a decent review of it, but exagerated the violence. The violence is like Star Wars Battlefront 2 meets COD 3, and the blood is always discolored, unless you shoot your teammates. But even the youngest kids know thats wrong. The langauge is probably why it was rated M, because they do use some strong langauge such as bullsh*t, a**hole, and b*stard, but thats nothing compared to Gearsof War, Black Ops, or Bad company 2. And yes it does have online chat, but you can mute people if they cuss, but only about one in every twelve people cuss, which is about 8% out of 100.

Don't forget, FPS and tactical shooters are logic games, too!

One point that often gets overlooked about many first-person shooter games (and almost all tactical shooters) is that (at least when playing the campaign mode) they have strategy elements that are good logic puzzles. I've watched my preteen kids play Halo, and they spend more time problem-solving and using critical-thinking skills than they do shooting or being shot at. I don't let them play the online modes of ANY games yet, they need to develop a stronger grasp on the safeguarding themselves in online interactions (maybe 14, we'll see).

As for language, the game has language that my preteens are not allowed to USE, but surely they've HEARD it all before from their peers or in other media. With parental guidance and daily classroom environments, I think most kids grasp the concept of what can and can't be repeated way before their preteen years, so the exposure to the language in the game has not been an issue.

Biggest Joke of A Halo game

Here's the rundown, I hate this series and this game. Especially this one. It is a complete waste of time and money. It has a dryer than dry storyline, and a complete joke of a multiplayer. The multiplayer is virtually the same as Halo 3. It was as if the producers just wanted to get away with doing as little as possible. If you have played any halo game other than wars, you would be a fool to have you or your kids play this game.

Great FPS - Less violent then most shooters

From Firefight to the great campaign this game has almost all i wanted. except for the recycled multiplayer. This is the first game in the halo series that you feel a sense of lonelyness as you are the rookie and you are trying to find youre fellow troopers. The blood is minimal and only a few swears are heard. This is definetely a perfect shooter to pick up if you have not yet done so.

Halo 3 Odst

It is good because is not that kind of games that you can reflex-it in real life like Call of Duty. In Campaign you are going to fight with Aliens and there blood are of color purple. In Multiplayer you are going to fight with Sparthans.

Know what your kids can take...

Its pretty easy to play but it has a-lot of cuss words. Violence isn't too bad as long as you know what your kids can take without being affected too much. I'm not talking about getting scared but not getting scared. if your kids can watch a real murder without any side effects that pretty bad. It shouldn't be rated M though.

Another Great Halo Game!

Halo 3: ODST is a great game that is set between Halo 2 and 3. The violence in ODST is bloody but not gory, there are no Flood in ODST so all the gore is gone but you will still kill a lot of aliens in this game. There is more language in ODST than in previous Halo games but still not bad compared to most M-rated games, you will hear the occasional s***, a**, d***, h*** and b-words. If your 14 this is a great title.
