Innovative and appropriate, but at this point, a little outdated.
The Halo series has reinvented first-person shooters. Even though Halo: Combat Evolved was only released in 2003, it is considered a classic. It has a really good story, and great graphics and sound. However, there are some serious problems. Sometimes, when enemies drop their guns, they'll get stuck inside environmental objects, spin around slowly and emit a horrible grinding noise that can be heard quite a distance away. Plus, Master Chief (the protagonist) scarcely talks. I'm halfway through the game and he's said about 120 words. Despite being rated M, halo isn't that inappropriate. The blood is ULTRA unrealistic, even that of humans. The thing that parents should be worried about is The Flood, a parasitic life form. The Flood starts out as cat-sized insect-shaped blobs, and when it infects someone, the effects are pretty gruesome. When The Flood infects a type of enemy called an Elite, the Elite's skin turns pale greenish brown. It's left hand is replaced by a whip-like cluster of red veins which it uses as a secondary weapon. The Elite's neck is lengthened and it's head is curled backwards, and another whiplike cluster of veins sprouts out of the chest. The really gruesome thing is, when you shoot them, it spurts out dark green blood and, if you place your shots correctly, you can shoot it's limbs off, and I've seen tiny chunks of flesh fall off, too. There isn't much sexual content in the game, but the holographic representation of the A.I. Cortana can get to be a little much. She's completely naked except for black lines covering up her bad parts. The only people who ever swear in the game are the Marines, and they only say mild words. However, Sgt. Avery Johnson described the space station/superweapon Halo as "God's own anti-son-of-a-b**** machine". One more comment is that CSM got the platforms wrong. It's available for windows, PC, Xbox and Xbox 360.

Good game for those 10 and up
Hey. Halo is a great game and a great start into a world that evolved in to so far 4 great games. The game is rated M but i feel it could have been a T. There are some D words in the game but no f bombs or anything. As far as the blood and gore goes the only gore in the game comes from the flood. When you shoot them limbs come off but nothing to graphic. you will see worse on sci fi shows. And the blood is not to bad . All the alien blood is fine it is funny how fake it looks. The worse thing about the game would be the human blood but this is not very graphic just a stain that some times makes it look like spilled juice . say five of your marines die in the same room there is blood on the ground and some on the walls but not enough to make it bad for kids. Keep in mind i like to be carful about the games i play but i think this is a good game for people ten and up

Great
The very first Halo game is still loads of fun to play. The single player is lengthy and engaging, and the multiplayer is just plain addictive. Expect bloody sci-fi violence and some mild swearing. Wounds are not visible when you shoot an alien or a human, only spattering blue or red blood.

Absolutely Horrid!
I'm a somewhat normal (I think) middle schooler: I play some violent (and some not) games, I read, play some sports, etc., and most of my friends love HALO, but I don't see any point in it! The story is kind of neat, but not very, the graphics are good, but it is very hard to play, and it has created a huge gap between my friends! Some are better then others, and so the one who's better just continually kills the others and then in real life the others are all mad at the better one! And it's VERY addicting (Once, I asked one of my friends that I bike home from school with if he wanted to come over, and he said he was to busy... and then later I came to get him for a school function and found out that he had spent the afternoon arranging all the "respawn points" in front of his gun so that he could continually shoot his enemy. I later found out from his dad that he hadn't even put down his backpack yet when he turned his xbox on. So much for busy!

very good but by the 3rd one it got old...
i dont actually think this deserves an m rating. although blood is throughout most of it is blue green purple colored. some of it is red but doesnt look real. there is some language such as the b---- and a-- words. but no f-words or s-words that i heard. violence is strong and should be intense violence in the rating but its all against aliens. you can though go against your teammates but that is represented as a not so positive thing. there is no sexual content. but the captain smokes cigars, but it is only shown a couple of times

A great game for all ages
I don't really know why it's rated M. People say its because of the blood but there isn't really anything too graphic until you get to the flood, and if you think the flood is bad check out dead space: extraction (which is also rated M). Loved it anyway

Perfect for Older Kids
This game is absolutely fine for kids. There is no reason it should be rated M for Mature at all. I played it when I was 9, and I can tell you: there's just as much blood when you fall down in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater than there is in this game. It's very clear that you should only shoot the aliens, there's no type of gore at all, and the only marginally scary portions occur when fighting the flood.

Should be rerated
First of all, i would like to suggest this game be rerated. Nowadays, with the level of desensitization (ThrillKill was going to be rated AO, yet Postal 2 was rated M) this game deserves a T rating. The game in itself is very fun. The games creators use multiple things to lure players into the decent story. the game itself is very easy to learn and play. It has some blood, but the blood can be turned off on the PC.

The Beginning of Halo
Halo is a good game, but with tons of violence. You play as a guy in a suit of power armor (for those who don't know what power armor is, it's basically armor with shields, a HUD liked to your weapons, targeting reticule, the works.) Your true face is never shown, and you are only known as Master Chief, or in rare cases, John-117. Yes, there is some blood, but it can be minimized by going to the video options menu and turn off the decals. That will negate the "splatter effect." You can use pistols, sniper rifles, assault rifles, missile launchers, and a multitude of alien weapons as well. Now on to the content section. A protagonist, (Sergent Johnson) smokes a cigar, but he's quite funny. The storyline is complex and immersive. However, the story is a bit dark and some parts will scare young kids. (8 and under.) If your kid comes to you scared, just explain to him/her that it's just a game. Overall a good alternative for kids who are begging for Gears of War (1,2, or 3.) Or Call Of Duty.

Fine For Ages 8+
I just got Halo 1 for my PC, and I am here to write you a review. It's absolutely fine for ages 8+. I have Halo 1, Halo 3, Halo 3 ODST, Halo Wars and Halo Reach, and this is pretty cool. I've been a huge fan of Halo for quite a while, but my favorite is Halo Reach, which is 10 times more violent then this. I'm 12, I play Left 4 Dead 2. I don't get scared by a little game so easily. Silent Hill and Bioshock, that's different. I have 16 M17+ games, none of which I find are scary. Buy it for your kids, let them play, if you think they can't handle it then take it away until they are more mature. Good Luck! Zanaman3000

Awesome game, but a little out of date.
Halo Combat Evolved is an epic game. I don't own it, but I played it at my friends house and we had a ton of fun. It isn't the best game for little kids, the violence is similar to Star Wars, except with real guns. I think the reason they rated this M is because you can see blood smeared around someone when you kill them.

Halo: CE
This game is awesome! It is not very inappropriate. Before you knock it because it has the mature rating, allow your kids to try it out! For violence there is guns and blood (What you would expect from a first person shooter) There is a few iffy words "D***N, H**L, and an occasional B*****D." Online play is somewhat safe if your kids do not swear constantly at other players. That's all I have to say.

Good for young gamers
This game isn't really violent. Every time there's blood its minor. I watched my dad play this when I was like 6 and i'm allowed to play so I'd approve this to kids 9 and up because there's Minor blood and no really bad swears only H, D and Scr.

Halo
I think kids could play this game because you can put the blood to know blood and it makes kids get imaginative with there little brothers or sisters but i think the flood is scary but not worse then deathspace.
