This is Just an Excuse to Introduce the Real Shoot-Um-Up to Young Kids
This is obviously a Trojan horse to get adults to think this popular ultra-violent, gory shoot-um-up franchise isn't really as bad as it is. These kinds of games and positive articles such as here at this site enable the big video game companies to reach a larger market share. There are only so many rabid teen fanboys, and this will start younger kids on the path to play ‘the real thing’ when they are older. Have them play CIV IV if you must. Then they might actually learn something.
At first I was angry when my son got this as a gift, but after playing it with him, I was actually pretty happy with it. I think that the violence language and blood are toned down to where they should be for most games. Also, this game provides lots of opportunites for kids to learn (even if they aren't aware of it). The players need to develop tools and technology to build an army capable of defending earth. This requires patients and skill that is sorely lacking in the majority of today's games. With a little parental guidance kids can easily learn to understand this game's high points and few low points.
If you're into this kind of game, you'll enjoy it. The rating of T for Teen is most definately for language and a few minor parts of the cut-scenes. There is a brief mentioning of DADT on the random NPC lines, but it goes no further than say "I'm not asking and I'm not telling". The game focuses on building resources and training units, while applying strategy. The difficulty is a bit too gapped from level to level. The easy difficulty essentially has you steam rolling through without difficulty while the normal difficulty will have you trying desperately to keep pace with the enemy.
This is a good game for those who like tower defense, which, really, is only suitable for online. It's not worth the money, and it is a stupid game with horrible gameplay and not much to do.
Its no where near as fun as the other halos and has a Starcraft style gameplay to it (which I am fine with, with some games, but not Halo). But for those who love that kind of gameplay, this game is for you.
I LOVE this game but it can be a little expensive. I got mine for free Here: *://swagbucks*/refer/Teejay9393
It's free at least sign up and try it out! Great prizes
I am an avid gamer and as such, have played the gambit of games. Halo Wars is a great game for several reasons. 1) It provides an excellent outlet to talk about decisions and the outcome of those decisions. 2)It does stray from the FPS, and as such, can be a little more friendly, especially to younger teenagers. 3)From a gamer perspective, it is a fairly well built game, and the levels of difficulty are exactly that, easy to legendary. This is one that I think that parents do not have to worry about because its short on gore, but not short on action and entertainment. It fits perfectly with the current halo series as well as the fiction that has also been written about the halo universe.
I have beaten C&C and Starcraft... this does not touch em.... At all... But for halo its a good start I bought the LE of Halo Wars... It was worth it! The blood is no existent. Also its movie graphics are unbelieveable! I hope you like!
