Medal of Honor: European Assault (PlayStation 2)

common sense media says

Loyalty and strategy -- but it's still war.

parents & educators say

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this game features plenty of battlefield violence. While none of the killing is particularly graphic (a little spray of blood is occasionally visible), players are asked to gun down scores of enemy soldiers in the course of the game.

Educational value: Uses real setting and battles as a backdrop for the story and employs archival film to set the scene. Emphasizes strategy over mindless carnage.
Positive messages: Typical of this genre, MoH:EA encourages loyalty, teamwork and valor- -- in the pursuit of killing the enemy.
Violence: Ample killing of German soldiers, but bloodshed borders on abstract and there is no gore
Sex: Not applicable.
Language: Occasional and mild, but present
Consumerism: Not applicable.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: Not applicable.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids
Families can talk about historical video games. You may want to ask your kids if a video game is the best way to engage history. Does the game glorify wartime violence or trivialize the experiences of those who served?

What's the story?

What's the story?

MEDAL OF HONOR: EUROPEAN ASSAULT focuses on an agent of the Office of Strategic Services, the Naval division that would become the CIA. Players fight their way through the battlefields of the European Theater -- France, North Africa, Russia and Belgium -- undermining German defenses and collecting intelligence on the enemy's new weapons systems. Players also lead a three-man squad to help get the job done, directing them to take cover, engage the enemy, or retreat as the situation demands.

Enemies are more intelligent than in the previous game in this series: They seek cover, use grenades to force players out into the open, and change positions to get a better shot. Expansive level design allows players to get creative in the way they advance toward their goals. Secondary mission objectives give players some stuff to do besides fight their way to the finish line.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

This game is on par with the industry's standard approach to WWII shooters: Allow players to kill plenty of enemies, but don't call undue attention to their deaths. Bodies evaporate, leaving only ammo and health power-ups as a memorial. Parents should take some solace in the game's intellectual demands. European Assault moves at a more methodical pace, preventing players from mindlessly rushing enemy positions and rewarding thoughtful, strategic progress.

The game, however, suffers from some problems. Your squad members will stand in the open until enemy fire turns them into a lifeless heap. EA also eliminated mid-level save points, so if you die at an inopportune time, you will have to start over from the beginning of a level. The European setting is dreary and monochromatic, unlike the colorful jungle settings in Rising Sun, and the art direction of EA does nothing to liven it up.

Great game.

Awesome
This game is awesome! It has violence, but it is not bloody and there is no grusome parts. It is fine for kids around 12 or 13 and up. Good strategic value makes you think. Again violent but not overly.

Its fun!
Its actually educational because kids could see what the soldiers are going through in war!

Team work
this war game is one of the best! this game is extremely hard to beat. the only way you can beat the levels is to work with your squad. this game also shows how hard WWII was and what our veterans went thru. this is a masterpiece

Nice Game
First of all you might not notice this, but you get to be Russian, British, and American like most of the call of duty games. This game is very challenging. A machine gunner can shoot at you five times and your health could be half way gone. It's almost like you have lives in this game like the Mario games. You get a life when you complete an objective. Blood, very little. They might as well just rate it T for just violence. You can hardly notice it. Get this game, its' awesome.

Good for ages 8+ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This game is fun because, you can do death matches 1 on 1 against your friends. In the missions they do say: Let's send these %#&@ to devil's land (hell) but otherwise it's a great game.

A Mediocre Shooter for Teens.
Medal of Honor: European Assault is a boring and difficult WWII FPS. There is violence and blood but nothing graphic. You will also hear the occasional d*** and h***.

Just another big let down for MoH series.
Alright, heres the deal. The people who make this game has a real screw lose. There is no strategy, the commands are realy screwy, and your teammates are dumb as posts! This game is just a stupid glorified deathmatch. 1 STAR!
