Minecraft is EXTREMELY educational in itself - there are ores, furnaces, you learn glass is made of sand, and other awesome things!
Another thing, Minecraft has grown without ANY commerical recognition at ALL. 11.6 MILLION people have bought this game just from word of mouth!
I can go downtown and see at least 3 kids and sometimes adults wearing a Minecraft t-shirt in one night!
Now there's this new game modification called Voltz - it's free, although I learned about how to metallurgically infuse items - such as bronze is made by putting tin and copper into a metallurgic infuser!
The game gives SO many opportunities, from building, to making mini-games, to making real computers!
7 & up should be able to play singleplayer - that is, if they can face the horrifying sounds of the scary Enderman!
But, even 7 year olds can play multiplayer if they can handle occasional strong language, although there are some servers that, when a cuss word is said, it takes the word in chat and replaces it with some random word such as "sapling" or "zombie!"
Truly one of the best video games to ever be produced - actually, the fifth most purchased computer game to ever be sold! Just 400k game sales away from third place!
If you're a parent, I would highly recommend this game to your child - and if you don't like language, try a server yourself to see if there is any cussing on it!
Other players can be mean, but they can be really cooperative and nice sometimes!
