What parents need to know

Parents need to know that there's a new intimidator feature that lets the player decide to be the good guy or the bad guy. The racing aspect of this game will bore younger kids who will be more interested in designing cars and going off-road than in going 16 laps to complete a race. Finally, there are car crashes but no blood, etc.

What's it about?

In NASCAR 2005: CHASE FOR THE CUP, you progress through a series of races, which takes some stick-to-it-iveness. In this edition, there are off-road races that are fun and, while they don't get you closer to the Cup, diverting.

Is it any good?

The speed and sounds and graphics are all good. There is no longer a cockpit view, which will be disappointing to fans of earlier Nascar video games. Handling the controls is tricky though, and it's easy to crash (which seems to be a big part of the entertainment). There is an intimidator and grudge feature that can be more annoying than unpleasant because it interrupts gameplay.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about playing as the good guy or the bad guy. Which is more fun? Why? Do you think it's OK to want to be the bad guy in a game setting like this?
