Quantum of Solace (Xbox 360)

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this James Bond game contains much of the same content as the films it's based upon -- including gunplay, mild language, and alcohol references. Some parents, however, might deem in less appropriate since players actually pull the trigger and use fists against enemies as opposed to watching the hero do it onscreen. Plus, it's recommended to shoot at an enemy's head to take him down quietly opposed to running and gunning noisily.

Educational value: Not applicable.
Positive messages: Bond is a bit of a womanizer but it doesn't come through too much in this game. However, he is a secret agent who acts outside of the law, including shooting his enemies in the head and fighting his way through numerous situations.
Violence: No blood, but players can kill enemies with a shot to the head or body or engage in hand-to-hand combat. Weapons are realistic but high-tech.
Sex: Not applicable.
Language: Some potentially offensive words such as "damn", "damn it", and "hell".
Consumerism: This is a game based on the movie of the same name as well as Casino Royale and is a way of marketing the 007 brand. Blatant product placements including Sony Vaio laptops and Sony/Ericcson Cybershot phones.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: In a cut-scene Bond can be seen sipping a martini ("shaken not stirred.")

What to talk about

Talk to your kids

Families can talk about whether releasing this game at the same time as Quantum of Solace movie comes out is shameless, well-timed marketing or is it fulfilling fans' desire to play as James Bond? Perhaps a little of both?

What's the story?

What's the story?

The latest movie-to-game adaptation? Bond. James Bond. Based on the movie of the same name, QUANTUM OF SOLACE, as well as the prior 007 flick, Casino Royale, this covert spy game lets players slip into the shoes of James Bond and use stealth and cunning to take down enemies with high-tech weaponry or hand-to-hand combat.

The relatively short single-player campaign (lasting only about 4 to 5 hours) has gamers navigate through dangerous locations based on (or inspired by) these films primarily from a first-person perspective (like the 007: Goldeneye game on the Nintendo 64). When taking cover behind an object, however, the camera pulls out to a third-person view to better see the environment including the thugs firing at you. Your pistol, with silencer, will get the most action in this game, and if you want to minimize your chances of being detected, you'll aim for a bullet to the head of your enemies, disable security cameras, and find important items. Along with the solo mode are a handful of multiplayer options with unique maps that add to the game's longevity and replayability.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

Quantum of Solace is a very good "B" title that's definitely worth a weekend rental if you're a fan of James Bond or stealthy action games. It looks great, thanks to the renowned Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare engine, delivering high-definition characters that resemble Daniel Craig and Dame Judy Dench (and impressive cut-scene sequences) as well as good-looking environments, such as trains, Venetian courtyards, rooftops and a museum.

Quantum of Solace doesn't really offer anything new to the genre, plus the short single-player campaign might disappoint those looking for something meatier, but the faithful 007 experience with recognizable characters and locations and many multiplayer modes make it a worthy adventure.

good enough
This is another one of my reviews. Quantum of solace is a great game because it is something new what I have played and just a good shooter (the first difficulty is quite easy but slightly hard all the rest are extremely hard. Violence: There is no blood but you fight hand to hand. A lot of shootings but nothing that bad. Language: D**n and Hell. Social behaviour, drugs and sex: You shoot a lot of people and some people drink and nothing that much about sex. Message: nothing apart from trying to stop terrorists. The game should be for ages 8 and up.

Great Bond Game
A good but violent game of addictive strategy. It has moments from Quantum of solace and Casino Royale.

Second, iffy for 14 is absurd I have this game and it rocks. The killing isn't very intense there's no blood at all and the people aren't very detailed. In offline mode the only somewhat intense thing is when you take down an enemy with melee and it makes you press the right button to do a cool move. Offline, although there is melee, it's not the cinematic type from online and it barely works. It's a great game totally okay for like anyone I'm pretty sure I rated it on for 11 (i can't see the on, iffy, or of thing because something weird happened on my computer). The game is very fun, good story mode (which confused the crap out of me, but it was still epic). My one complaint is that in online there's this gun (Hutchinson A4) which is a shotgun with fairly long range and very quick rate of fire and very fast reload. It can unbalance the multiplayer at times but once you have it it's fun.

awesome not too violent
This game is awesome it's not that violent if you sneak around but if you get caught you have to shoot people but no blood

Fairly easy FPS, very tame
The newest installment of the Bond series of video games, I found it to be tame in every aspect. There is no blood in it, and the language is fine. The question is whether you think your child can handle the violence. Players are encouraged to be stealthy like Bond, but I think the game lacks the suspense of its movie counterpart. Nevertheless, it is a good buy, and can be comfortably played by most ages.

Awesome 007 FPS, dudes!
This game is pretty awesome. It's probably the first 007 game without Suggestive Themes in a long time, too, which would make it a little more acceptable to kids' parents. Sure, there is some language, but nothing we wouldn't here in a PG/PG-13 movie. The controls are a little different from most FPS games (Modern Warfare 2, MAG, etc.). The gameplay is very fast paced at lots of times, which makes it fun! The online multiplayer is pretty awesome, too. Kills happen very fast if you are used to a game like Modern Warfare 2. I give this game an awesome 5/5!

DISSED
Bad bond game. RENT only.

A good stealthy game
James bond is known to be violent with shooting and stuff. The violence has no blood but is still violent, You can shoot people in the head and chest etc. A lot of close range kills are witnessed. There is a bit of language but they are what you hear everywhere you go. Not even high end swear words. Bond can be seen drinking alcohol in cut scenes. Martinis usually. Overall its a good game!

Pretty Good.
It's James Bond. Amazing multiplayer (like COD), and perfect for any below 16-17 who likes shooters.

Good for 13.
I believe this is the best 007 game yet. Very violent and graphic, but has cut-scenes from the movie. No blood, but use of weapons includes sniper missions and assassinations. Not a great game, but is well rated.

This is pretty good
If you play COD and move into this there is one change in controls and you'll get over it quick enough. Gameplay's olright no blood but you do get to kill alot of people. Needs offline multiplayer and online is good with a few nice modes.
