The Sims 2: Open for Business (Windows)

common sense media says

Teens can be the boss in this OK installment.

parents & educators say

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that teens can set up pretty odd businesses, such as a bar/spa/bubble-blowing hookah hang-out. Teens can create bars/nightclubs, and they can also place photo booths where Sims can have sex. They can also get jealous and angry and fights can break out. This expansion pack requires The Sims 2 to play.

Educational value: Teens may pick up some good business skills (like the importance of customer service). This is also an excellent way to discuss time-management skills with teens.
Positive messages: There is some crude bathroom humor.
Violence: Sims get jealous and angry and fights can break out. Also, Sims can die.
Sex: Sexual suggestions, situations (Sims can have sex), and some crude humor.
Language: Not applicable.
Consumerism: This is part of a franchise that encourages players to acquire wealth. The Sims universe continues to be full of tons of products to buy -- and to desire.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: Drinking and bubble-blowing that seems a lot like bong smoking (characters get the giggles).

What to talk about

Talk to your kids
Families can talk about building a business from the ground up as well as dealing with customers and employees. This is also an excellent way to discuss time-management skills with teens.

What's the story?

What's the story?
In THE SIMS 2: OPEN FOR BUSINESS, players nearly intuitively set up their first business. Sims can purchase a community lot to build their store (even a new, teeny-tiny lot) or put on their bunny slippers and just work from home. As in real life, it takes money to make money. Since players decide the prices of services and retail goods, they may learn quite a bit about time and budget management. Successful business owners earn perks, such as contact lists (to build the business further), cash bonuses, and better business relationships.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

The game doesn't deliver on all its potential, but it does teach good entrepreneurial skills to teen players. Also, like all Sims titles, this game offers never-ending creative options. Fans of the franchise may wish that they could build businesses that more closely matched Sims career tracks, so they could open an office, a medical clinic, a fast food place, etc. But, overall, the game does fill a hole in the Sims universe.

Ther Perfect Real Life Simulator!!
I don't understand why it's rated 16+. Geesh, some things kids watch on TV these days is WAY worse than playing Sims 2. There is some mild sexy-stuff that happens, but the way the programmers made it, it just looks like the Sims are having a tickle fight. This game allows the players to be open, creative, and it even makes them think about their own life, goals, and dreams. It's a good way to introduce responsibility, time management, and social skills in a fun, cartoonist way. Anyways, this is an awesome game, and I LOVE it! Anybody who is mature enough to handle the Sims's "tickle fights" can SOOOO play this game!!!!

im not teen but this game still rocks
I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!!! I recomend all the sims games to you. sims, sims unleashed, sims vacation, sims hot date, sims superstar, sims makin magic, sims 2, sims 2 university, sims 2 nightlife, sims 2 open for business, and im sure there are more. And i really don't see how dying is violent! I mean it's just a thing that happens in real life and everyone even sims die! big deal! Also when they die its not like there all bloody and coughing and stuff the grim reaper comes and talks on his cell phone. Also kids my age can easily play if there parents aren't all like "oh its too violent and inopropriet" even though its not. I mean 10 11 12 year olds know that people have sex. we dont buy the story about the stork! anyways this game ROX!!

Good game, for 14+
Soms opern for buisness is a very good expansion pack, but the T for teens rating is what it deserves. Sims can have sex in bed or a hottub, but nothing is shown. The sims can get into fights, but it is a cartoon type fight where only a dust cloud is shown. Since sims talk in sim language, they could be talking about who knows what and we won't know. Sims can get drinks at a bar, though, but don't get drunk. However, sims can go out to a store and buy other Maxis/EA games, so it sort of advertises other games. The graphics are amazing on this game!

Second Best Game Ever
I really like this game. It may not be "okay" with your friends (if you're in a highschool with people like my friends). Still, the house design thing is really good, the mod friendliness is awesome. I mean, this is definately recommended for any kid, really should be 11+. There is no real sexual content unless cheats are used. Plus with some parental control, (not total control, but some explanation), this is an amazing game for any kid.

the most addicting game ever
I love this game. I think it's fun to be in control with the sims lives. And if any parents are reading this than I also think it can help kids understand what dicisons to make in life. Such as picking the right job who to go out with or don't walk away from the oven when cooking something. I seriously love this game and I think it deserves more than 3 stars!
