parents & educators say

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that the Sims in this game are college students who drink, have sex, and even streak around their dorm and town (in addition to going to class and studying, of course). Players can also use their influence to pressure their peers to pull a prank or kiss another character.

Educational value: Not applicable.
Positive messages: Sims need to study and go to class, but the college life presented here is also about pulling pranks, having parties, and trying to make friends with Greeks.
Violence: Characters pull pranks, argue, and fight. Plus, you can die.
Sex: Sims can have flirt, make out, have sex -- and even streak naked.
Language: Not applicable.
Consumerism: No actual products, but you can shop, earn and spend money.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: You can drink coffee, and drinking alcohol and smoking drugs are implied.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids
Families can talk about how this game matches their expectations (or experiences) of college. This game, like so many movies, presents college as a wild, adolescent time -- do you think that's accurate? Why do you think most people go to college? Do you think it's more about the academics, growing up into a mature individual -- or the last free time of your life?

What's the story?

What's the story?

The Sims are out of the house and off to college! Choose one of three institutions, say goodbye to the folks, and get ready for a new life of hanging out in the halls, drinking coffee, and attempting to pledge a sorority or fraternity. Oh yeah, and studying, going to class, and writing term papers, too. You've got to declare a major, and good grades do earn you Simoleans, but the academics just provide a theme here.

You don't see your Sims when they are in class, and you can still make the grade without doing your term paper. Really, the game is about balance: Whether you're living in a dorm, frat, or your own pad, you've got to keep your Sim bathed and fed and still try to find time to study, make friends, hit the gym, and work toward meeting your personal aspiration.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

As always, it's the amount of options that make this game so fascinating -- and addictive. Players may get frustrated by how long it takes to make friends, or have enough energy to hit the town. There is fun stuff to do outside of your dorm -- you can run on the treadmill at the gym, buy new outfits at the shopping center, or study at the library -- but you have to make sure your energy and hunger levels are high enough before heading out and this can take several Sim days.

Other familiar glitches still exist here: If you're eating and go to answer the phone, you may leave the food on the floor. If you are talking to a friend, but go to get something to eat, there is no guarantee that your friend will sit at the table with you. In the end, this game is probably best enjoyed by college students or alums, who will get the joke when student Sims play hacky sack, do the school cheer, or try to impress the Greeks. This expansion pack requires THE SIMS 2 to play.

you're not serious?
SIXTEEN PLUS! are you KIDDING me??? it's not THAT bad most kids have "the talk" by the time they're twelve! the worst thing they actually SHOW is kissing! I've been playing the SIMS since i was ten it is not very innapropriate. At all. It teaches you ways to deal with life as an adult. Also, you can make movies for yourself! how cool is that! you can even do a 'sims next top model' where you take pics of your sims! Under ten, don't play or have a parent preview it first. Over that, you should be fine. Caution to parents: when sims die, the image can be a little scary for young kids. The Grim Reaper comes and takes them away, but it looks very creepy.

Very very addictive game
Many people say that this game is bad but, it's not. Alright maybe it has issues with sex but, nothing huge not like people gushing blood out og their heads. I do have to say read the rated T for teen because this game should only be played by teens(and adults)

Great game for ADULTS
They don't actually curse, but you get the idea they are by the little bubble with "$%#$@%#@!" in it. And you can have A LOT of sex, so no, it's not a good game for kids, but if you sit down and talk with your kids and they know that it is JUST A GAME, it's freakin' awesome!

so cool
this game is really fun but is not for kids because there is sex on this game other wise its great.

what
It is just show you and teaching you about what the real world and life is all about.I played it and it was fine for 12 yr. olds.

What games should be.....
I wasn't to fussed on TS2U when it came out, although I adored the TS2, but it grew on me and like CSM says, it is addictive. The graphics are excellent and oustanding.

good game!
I enjoy playing this game, but i really do think that you should be at least 12 to be playing. This game shows you what college is like and what you really would experience, like living in dorms, doing term papers, hanging with friends, buying everything yourself, etc.

Overall The best Sims game yet
Now I love the sims so I may be a little favorable but this version has everything the regular game plus the life of a student. One example is it has four more careers that only can come from college just like some jobs require a degree in real life. So the usual good stuff of the Sims plus the new bonus is definetly a game to look out for.

First Sims add-on is great!
I think it's ON 12+, iffy 9-12, and off for 9 and under. Why is there reviews saying it's for older kids, no teens allowed?!? 16+ is near the M for Mature rating!
