parents & educators say

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this game is rated "Teen" for violence, but most of it is machine versus machine (Decepticon versus Autobot). Transformers can punch, kick, and throw cars at each other; toss enemies into buildings; break off lampposts and swing them like clubs, and so on. There is no blood or gore in the game, not even when you encounter human pedestrians -- the cars simply drive on through without harming them.

Educational value: Not applicable.
Positive messages: You can play as the good machines or the bad machines.
Violence: It's machines fighting machines.
Sex: Not applicable.
Language: Not applicable.
Consumerism: It's conveniently timed with the lauch of the movie, and tied into sales of toys. But there aren't any in-game branded products.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: Not applicable.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids

Families can talk about whether this game would be any good if it wasn't tied to the movie or released at the same time. Does it really extend the brand as interactive entertainment? How does this game tie into the original Hasbro toys that inspired the movie?

What's the story?

What's the story?

TRANSFORMERS: THE GAME, like the movie upon which it's based, tells of warring robots -- the Autobots (good guys) and Decepticons (bad guys) -- trying to find a powerful artifact, the AllSpark, which is responsible for giving the robots life. To keep it from being used for evil, the AllSpark was jettisoned into space, eventually landing on Earth. Now these dueling robotic races -- also known as "Transformers" because they can manipulate their metallic bodies into vehicles, such as cars, jets, and helicopters -- fight among humans on Earth to be the first to find the AllSpark. This single-player game first lets you choose whether to play as an Autobot or a Decepticon, each with unique environments and missions.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

The award-winning game makers at Traveller's Tales (Lego Star Wars series) do a great job of giving you the feeling of controlling enormous machines. Transformers: The Game also features gorgeous graphics -- especially with the Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3 versions -- but this game doesn't rely on just its good looks to keep you interested.

That said, the game isn't perfect. It is quite short, only offering about seven or eight hours of play. Little strategy is required during combat sequences; a few punches and kicks and the enemy is down. Perhaps the game was geared more toward novice or younger players, but simplistic fighting and a short campaign are not a good combination.

Bury this game under gunpowder crafted boulders, gas, and fire
Awful game on the wii. The way you must fight is impossible, swing the wiimote to fight is normally not a problem, but, in this game, it controls the camera as well. most wii games do this, but i can tell if youre attacking. The sound and graphics are okay, but i doubt youll shell out 50 bucks for a game to look at.

not to be confused with transmorfers
Transformers is a slightly short, movie- based game. Athough it is rated T, it should be fine for ages 9 and up. Unfor- tunately, the combat is too simple and each transformer only has 2 guns, it is still entertaining. As for graphics, the trans- formers, backgrounds, enviorments, and destruction looks great,as for people not so much.Lucly the game is focused more on the transformers than the people so it looks good. You can play the game as good or bad, each with different endings.Warning: as the bad guys you must destroy such things as planes, army bases, and other things with people inside. On the whole, i'd rate this game a 7 of 10 (7 being the average).Replay value: moderately low(Worth playing once for both sides.)

A fun game for tweens and some teens!
This is a fun game for tweens and maybe even some teens. The violence is not that intense. But if you destroy stuff like cars and gas stations, they will blow up. There is only one mild swear word in the game which is h-ll. Some vehicles in the game have the TT games logo on them. Some car brands are also shown. The game controls are simple. Although the game might be short for some it is still a blast!

A fun game for a while then gets old very quickly.
This game when I first played it I loved it but after about 2 days it got old and not very fun. Transformers: The Game is a game based on the movie of the same name (without "the game" at the end) and it's a unfortunately a average movie based game. The violence is very mild, for instance you can't kill civilians and when you pick up a car the civilian inside will fall out so the violence is fine in that category the only thing I would say could be stronger is being able to destroy anything. Well right now I can't think of anything good about it besides that it's very fun at first so if you really want to play this rent it first.

Fun game
I got this game for the PSP, and I think its pretty fun. The animation could be better, but it works, and I am happy that the annoying human characters get almost no screen time.

Excellent for kids!!
Both of my boys (6 and 8)enjoy playing this game. All video gaming is supervised in our house, and I haven't seen a problem. They play it on the XBox 360 and get wildly excited over the graphics.
