Have you seen a trailer that's inappropriate for your kids?
You've been sending us emails for years about inappropriate movie trailers that catch you completely off guard when they run before PG-rated movies or while watching TV with your kids. Tell us about the trailers that have made you -- and your kids -- squirm.

(Edit: Whoops, sorry for the double-post)
"I could not believe it. I went to see an R-rated movie..."
What the heck were you expecting the trailers to be like in an R-rated movie?
When I went to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (PG-13) it had a green-band "Funny People" trailer, which contained nothing explicit other than the single word "sex", which isn't really considered explicit. I think their doing their job of separating the trailers for the most part, I haven't noticed anything in most PG trailers that would be too inappropriate (most innuendo goes over kids' heads), perhaps a mistake was made in which it was given a green-band, but then later on a red-band.
2012. I covered my eyes the whole time. I don't like thinking about the end of the world.
Update: Here is the EXACT trailer I saw (with sexual references, f-words, etc.) which was show in a R-rated movie:

You'll notice that this is the red-band trailer. However, it was shown as a trailer with a Green band (approved for all audiences)! The theatre was an AMC in Burlington, MA, during the previews for the movie "The Ugly Truth." Has anyone else noticed red-band trailers being advertised as green band ones like this???
Did anyone else see this? I could not believe it. I went to see an R-rated movie, and the trailer for "Funny People" starring Adam Sandler was "approved for all audiences" yet he drops the F-bomb in it. Are they allowed to do that? I was NOT imagining it. Everyone in the theatre heard it as well and were kinda surprised to hear it on a trailer. which, presumabaly, could be shown in non-R rated movies since it was supposedly approved for all audiences. I can't find anything about this on the web...some trailers are different from others and I don't know which one this was, but I think it was Adam Sandler that used the word. Did anyone else remember this?
Bruno is the worst I have ever seen...Even the commercials on TV are crude. I hate it !
Yes, I have seen numerous inappropriate trailers before "family" movies. It is extremely similar to the TV ads for personal, Adult products and issues shown during sporting events and during earlier hours. The "adult situations" are the worst. The intent of the entertainment media to expose our children to these images, situations and language is inexcusable. I, as their parent, should be the person who determines when and if my children are mature enough for any of these. If the trailer isn't truly age, meaning ALL ages, appropriate then it should be shown STRICTLY in R rated movies ONLY!
underdog I would not necessarily say that all R rated movies are PG-13 now a days and PG-13 movies are PG. For example 16 candles was rated PG and that showed Breasts and had the F word in it at least 3 times. Granted some movies do get away with a lot more today than they did in the past.
The preview for the Sherlock Holmes movie had an extremely raunchy innuendo joke in it. Funny - but wildly inappropriate for kids.
I was even freaked out by the poster! That girl is SCARY....
I strongly agree that the PG-13 rating is a joke. What used to be PG-13 is now PG, and what used to be R is now PG-13, etc. So many parents and kids ignore the ratings altogether, and forget that PG means "parental guidance" -- just because your kid is 13, doesn't mean all PG-13 movies are okay for them. (Remember that many PG-13 movies would have been rated R when us parents were kids). And one movie critic noted that movie makers can get away with a lot more raunch in a comedy, for some reason.
I saw it in front of an R-rated movie, but I could not believe the trailer for Halloween 2 was approved for all audiences. It was extremely loud, violent and scary.
Haven't seen any, but because of the trailers I'm afraid to see Harry Potter 6. :(
A few weeks later...
WOW HP6 ROCKS! :)
bruno
Yeah i watched knowing and they had (sorry forgot names) Next Day Air, crank, drag me to hell, and sorority sisters. All of them are horror movies but next day air but that still has violence, drugs, and many other things. My friend never saw a scary movie so she was scared out of her seat before the movie started. Plus our movie was depressing. Transformers 2 had 2012 another depressing trailer.
My sisters keeper
that made me cry
The worst one we ever saw was for The Perfect Storm right before Chicken Run. It was the first movie we ever took my son to and he was so terrified by the trailer that he sat in my lap and cried for most of the movie, refused to see another movie for ages, and still actually does not like Chicken Run, although I'm sure he's forgotten why!
i saw trasnsformers 2 and the bruno trailer was on.... i am 12 so it was ok for me, my mum, and 13 year old sister but i saw 5 year olds in the theatre so it shouldn't be shown in those films.
When my children were little, we went to see The Santa Clause 2, and the trailers were so scary we had to leave before seeing the movie (and I demanded my money back from the theater manager who tried to give me credit for the movie instead). One trailer was for a Lord of the Rings movie, and we had to cover the girls eyes - but the sounds were scary, too. Another trailer was for the movie "Phone Booth", a violent movie that was rated R. I don't know what the trailer was rated - but it was too loud and scary for small kids. If a movie is rated G or PG, trailers like that should not be shown, even if it's approved for "all audiences". Whoever approves these things must not have small children. In fact, the PG-13 rating system is a joke.
The only one i can think of is Bruno. I'm ganna go see it opening night but i just think it probably shouldn't be shown to kids under 13. It's ganna be a great movie and i feel bad that kids under 13 shouldn't be allowed to even see the trailer but it might make them bring up some questions. At 13 teens already know what everything in the trailer is so it doesn't matter that they see. I can't wait to go see it though. I just i hope i don't have to sneak in again cause the people won't sell me tickets cause i'm 16. So if i can't get them then i gatta sneak in
I was shocked when I went to a PG movie (which I have to admit I thought was PG-13 until I saw the rating outside after I saw the movie) , and a rated R movie was on the previews. It was ridiculous. The preview was horrible with sexual references and language I wouldn't usually hear in a PG movie.
The bad thing about seeing a PG-13 movie is that you can get caught off guard by R-Rated trailers, for god's sake.
The preview for Bruno is really bad, I've even seen it on channels that never go above TV-PG (Reelz Channel, for starters.)
When I saw Transformers: RotF in theaters I noticed that some of the "Green Band" trailers did NOT say "Approved for all Audiences". Rather than that they said "Selected Audiences". I was under the impression that these trailers should have a Yellow background, not green. I was a little surprised, but all of those trailers seemed to contain PG content, so I wasn't really bothered by it, just something interesting I noticed.
As far as trailers that have bothered me...none, really.
Well, that depends. I guess the worst one I have seen was for the sex and the city movie, while watching the second Pirates movie. Once you start seeing pg-13 movies, the trailers get even raunchier!
Bruno. Enough said. They just get raunchier, but Bruno covers it.
When my kids were little, they were frightened by a Harry Potter trailer (now they love Harry Potter, go figure!), but it wasn't inappropriate. Nowadays, though, I hear curse words in ALL APPROVED trailers. The new James Bond movie, QUANTUM OF SOLACE has a "d**n", "b**tard", and "what the h*ll" in the trailer, plus the suggestive line: "she won't bed with you unless you give her something she wants". Remarks like this aren't necessarily inapropriate for my kids, since they're 14, but they definately shouldn't be in age appropriate trailers. Others include ANGELS AND DEMONS (showing a bloody, dying man, gasping for breath and a man burning alive) and ADVENTURELAND (lines about imagining a lover naked). These are the previews that can show before G-rated movies. One of my kids is a big movie buff, and he like to get on IMdB and watch movie trailers. He's often told me about the content that's showed up in Green-band trailers (including the afore mentioned cursing and violence, as well as shots of people undressing and making out on a bed).
The Bruno Trailer. No comment. shivers....
No, I HAVE heard of it.
The trailer for The Orphan is horrifying. I can't believe how scary that movie looks. I saw it before an R-rated movie for the first time, but have seen it on TV since. This is a movie that needs MUCH more warning before it runs.
