Interview: The Cheetah Girls

Interview: The Cheetah Girls
Already on tween girls' must list thanks to their first two movies -- The Cheetah Girls and The Cheetah Girls 2 -- the girl-powered trio heads to India for their new film, The Cheetah Girls: One World. We talked to Sabrina Bryan, Adrienne Bailon, and Kiely Williams about what fans can expect from the movie and how media influenced them as girls.

Common Sense Media: Can you talk a little about The Cheetah Girls: One World?
Adrienne: It's really about growing with your friends and how it's not a bad thing to have your own separate dreams -- but at the same time to always keep your friendships intact and support one another.
Sabrina: I think the movie is a huge example of what happens after high school. In high school you have this group of friends that you've known forever, and then all of a sudden, people are going to college, they're going to different states, they're going across the country -- you know, moving in different directions. And you just feel so out of your element. [The movie is about] our last summer together, and we're really not sure what's going to happen with the Cheetah Girls after [it's over], so it's about going big.
Adrienne: We've never been competitive against each other, and [in the movie] we're being placed in this situation where we have to compete against one another.

CSM: How do you think the media influences girls?
Adrienne: As young girl I always looked at magazines and wanted to look like what I saw in the magazines, but at the end of the day it really boils down to our parents instilling such confidence in us and loving who we are from the inside and understanding that entertainment is for entertainment purposes only.
Kiely: Parents should have a bigger effect on you than magazines and pop stars.
