AREA OF RECTANGLES - INTERACTIVE LESSON will help kids practice computing the area of rectangles, and of shapes that consist of two or more rectangles put together. The Lesson section starts off by showing kids how to use unit squares to determine the area of any shape with straight sides, but then it only teaches the formula for the area of a basic rectangle, without addressing the more irregular shapes shown at the beginning of the lesson. The lesson needs to be more thorough and cover all the area concepts that are tested in the app. Kids will need to already know, or figure out on their own, the concepts involved with determining the area of the more irregular shapes in the app. The app is a very interactive way to practice these skills, however, and the three challenges at the end of the Game section motivate kids to improve the next time they play.
