What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this pricey (by app standards) FIFA World Cup 2010 game is a very in-depth, detailed soccer sim with teams for nearly every country in existence. It shows a good sense of global community and sportsmanship. The game can be played by two people via WiFi, but only when those two players are on the same network, so playing with strangers is not likely. We rated it "On" for ages 9 and up simply because of the detailed and complicated (in a good way) set of features and play modes.

  • Controlling your player through maneuvering a virtual "control stick" doesn't always work as smoothly as it should -- it's far too easy for your thumb to slide past the virtual stick. But the buttons for shooting and passing are well placed and easy to reach in a hurry.
  • Sliding tackles may result in a foul.

Is it any good?

FIFA WORLD CUP 2010 is full of realistic details and features that will make World Cup fans very happy. You can play single games or full World Cup tournaments as any one of the dozens of country team available. You can even captain the team with your own custom-created avatar -- and you'll get to see news reports that come in about yourself after you do. There's even color commentary, which sounds great and very natural. Some of the animations are a bit stiff, but that feels like a picky complaint when talking about a mobile app. The controls are far from perfect, but shouldn't get in the way of enjoying what is otherwise a spirited and realistic World Cup sim.
