What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Grover's Number Special is a funny preschool app that utilizes real video footage of Sesame Street muppets. Grover stars, in his recurring role as a fumbling waiter. He repeatedly attempts to serve lunch to his perpetually disgruntled customer (that blue-headed muppet guy with the bushy mustache), but always loses the meal somehow before he gets it to the table. The game part comes in during the meal preparation. Food rains down from the sky and kids slide Grover's tray back and forth in order to catch the correct ingredients for the ordered meal. Kids move the tray by tilting the device. Kids can't fail, and if an incorrect ingredient hits the tray, it simply bounces off.

  • The game is designed so that it is impossible to fail.
  • There's some slapstick with Grover tripping, falling, and spilling food.

Is it any good?

GROVER'S NUMBER SPECIAL is a very polished looking, very fun app for preschoolers. The genuinely funny video segments are a joy -- and there are enough of them to keep repetition to a minimum. And they're strung together rather seamlessly with the game, making Grover's attempt to serve lunch into a never-ending task. The game itself is incredibly simple, but as it's aimed at 3-year-olds, that's perfect.

Pass on this app
This app is a waste of money. It is expensive for a kids app and doesn't have a lot of educational value. It doesn't hold my 3 yr. old's attention for long.
