What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Mini Touch Golf is a cute mini golf game with 36 different holes increasing in levels of challenge. All but the first few holes may be a little too challenging for many younger players because it does require some precision in finger motion to grab and shoot the ball. For kids (or adults) who get frustrated with real mini golf, they'll likely have the same reaction here.

  • There's no tutorial here for first-time players, so it may be challenging for some players to get the hang of the "pull back to go forward" opposite motion control. If you don't touch the screen right next to the ball, the viewable area changes, which can also be a bit frustrating. But the guide line gives players a good idea where the ball is going to go, and once you get the hang of it, it's the same motion throughout.

  • The main menu has a "more games" tab that takes players to a screen with the option to buy other games from this publisher, including at least two games that are not in the same sports games genre as this non-violent mini golf game, such as Sniper Strike and Minion Wars.
  • Some privacy concerns. Users can opt in to OpenFeint, an interactive network that allows users to upload real avatar photos, post on message boards, connect with Facebook friends or Twitter followers, and access live chat with strangers.

Is it any good?

With a "complete graphics overhaul" from its last version, MINI TOUCH GOLF is definitely fun to look at with a variety of themes. It's also fun to play -- if you have the patience to master the seemingly simple controls on this 36-hole mini golf app. The "pull back to go forward" opposite motion control, combined with the fact that if you don't touch the screen right next to the ball the viewable area changes, isn't forgiving for new or younger users whose fingers may not be ready for precision of this level for a mini golf game.
