What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Princess Arabella Wants to Play is a beautifully illustrated, finely detailed storybook app for kids age 4 to 10 based on the stories by Mylo Freeman. Listen to the narrator tell the story of how the princess came to befriend an elephant; older kids can read a shorter version themselves. Each page has a least one animation or sound kids can tap to uncover. An iPad only version is called Princess Arabella Wants to Play Plus.

  • It's easy to tap the story's pictures to discover different animations and sounds. There are a number of spots to swipe or tap to move pages back or forth, and sound or visual indicators appear when it's time to turn the page.

Is it any good?

There's a charming simplicity to Princess Arabella's story that all kids can relate to: She just wants to play. Combine that with colorful illustrations and attention-keeping details, and PRINCESS ARABELLA WANTS TO PLAY is a storybook app winner. Older kids may want more interaction and surprises on each page, but for younger pre-readers and early readers there's just enough here to spark imagination without distracting from the enjoyment of the delightful story.
