What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Puss In Boots Movie Storybook is a slightly interactive retelling of the plot to the Puss in Boots film. While reading (or listening to the narration), kids can tap hotspots to trigger sound effects on some pages. And many short video clips from the movie are used to flesh out the tale. There is a little flirtation and a lot of swordplay in the tale of the Zorro-like kitty, but it's underplayed here in this storybook version.

  • The navigation is overly complicated. By simply flipping pages, you'll miss out on a lot of the story. To get all of it, you need to open an extra menu on each page and watch a series of short film clips from there.
  • There's some sword fighting and other types of fantasy violence in the story, but very little of it depicted in the images.
  • There is some flirtation between Puss and a female cat. Very mild, though.
  • Not applicable.

Is it any good?

The PUSS IN BOOTS MOVIE STORYBOOK doesn't do much more than retell the movie's plot, which isn't necessarily a problem for kids who simply want to revisit the story. And it's got a lot of audio and video clips to make revisiting that much simpler. However, the navigation is strangely complex, and it's easy to overlook the video clips. The app also crashed on us several times during our testing of it.
