What parents need to know

Parents need to know that Star Wars Cantina is a Diner Dash-like time management game set in the Star Wars universe. As the waitress, you serve various aliens generic bright-colored drinks. The art is bright and cartoony, but be aware that there are a few elements of violence (bounty hunter customers may blast a fellow diner if they're left waiting too long for their order). The story, told in still-frame scenes, involves a criminal loan shark extorting money from the Cantina owner.

  • The controls work very smoothly, and the difficulty increases at a nice, gradual pace.
  • Certain customers will get violent if they are unhappy with their service. Some angry aliens may break a table, and an impatient bounty hunter may even zap another customer with his laser blasters. There's nothing graphic, though, in the cartoony art.

Is it any good?

It would be easy to write off STAR WARS CANTINA as a Diner Dash clone, but when you play it, you can't help but be impressed and entertained by the clever ways in which the developers made great use of the Star Wars characters and setting. Star Wars fans will love seeing the different ways that Imperial Stormtroopers, Rodian bounty hunters, and scrap-hunting Jawas react when they're dining at the tavern. The upgrades you can earn (all of which will help you out on more difficult levels) are also fun nods to the movie, like the Cantina Band. Even without the Star Wars trappings, though, this would be a very well-made, smoothly run time management game. All in all, a great app.
