What parents need to know

Parents need to know that there are some references to violence in Treasure Seekers 2: The Enchanted Canvases. In one scene, you come across a girl chained to a rock who was bitten by a werewolf, while elsewhere in the game you'll come across your brother Tom sitting in an electric chair, an imprisoned genie, and a ghost pirate. Overall, however, the game should be suitable for older kids and teens. A non-HD version is available for the iPhone and iPod touch; the HD version is iPad only.

  • There are two difficulty levels and an in-game hint system for those who are stuck.
  • In one scene you'll see a young girl who is tied to a rock and who was bitten by a werewolf; in another a character is in an electric chair. There are no scenes depicting actual violence.
  • Not applicable.
  • The game contains an item called a "Hell's eye."
  • A link for another Treasure Seekers game takes you to the App Store; a tab takes you to a list of other G5 games, also with links to the App Store.
  • Some privacy concerns. Players can opt in to Apple’s Game Center to track achievements, and for some games, challenge friends. With Game Center, players can send and receive friend requests using an email address or Game Center nickname. Requesting or accepting a friend via email will reveal the first and last name associated with each party’s Apple ID and the sender’s email address. There are links to follow the publisher on Facebook or Twitter, to share information with friends via email, and to sign up for an electronic newsletter.

Is it any good?

TREASURE SEEKERS 2: THE ENCHANTED CANVASES HD is a puzzler that's one part hidden-object game, challenging you to find well-hidden objects in busy environments (think Where's Waldo or I Spy), and one part adventure game, where you must use items in your inventory to solve the task at hand; it's a mobile version of a PC game. The story surrounds Nelly, a young adult who vows to save her younger brother Tom, imprisoned in a mysterious Romanian castle.

Treasure Seekers 2 takes place over 50 hand-drawn scenes, such as one early in the game where you'll repair a torn magic carpet to fly to the top of a tower. This first requires you to find a needle and thread, and combine them with five patches of material draped throughout a room. The game also houses 24 different mini-games. While fun, the adventure is on the short side, as the entire tale could be solved in a couple of hours -- not to mention there's little replayability as the items are in the same spot every time you play. But adventure seekers with a yen for fantasy storytelling should enjoy curling up with this game.

Fun to play TOGETHER!
I love this game for myself, but also found that these HD games are great to play WITH my son. He and I sit with the ipad and play the "finding games." He doesn't understand the story, only being 4, but likes finding the objects (and pressing the *hint* button when we are stuck.) My only complaint is that they are pricey for an app. But gorgeous and well done!
