Gratuitous crude sexual jokes (e.g., guy licks coconuts he's wearing as drag get-up) and swearing totally cancel out a cute story. [Ditsy blond (i.e. no memory) female stereotype is the least of it's problems.) Who is this movie's target audience?
It seems that all the 12 year old reviewers talk about how tough they are and how they can handle it. Don't be fooled. At 14 I was extremely embarressed by all the sexual jokes. It was hard to enjoy the fun storyline when I was being hit with nastyness from all sides. I don't think any level headed adult should watch it. I only gave it 2 stars because of the clever plot.
I don't understand why people don't like this movie. It's actually a great movie that's really funny. Okay, so maybe it's inapropriate but if you're at least 14 you should be able to handle the material the way an adult would. Although this movie wasn't made for kids it is so hilarious. I first saw it when I was 12 and really liked it sooooo.....rent it! It's fun!
The movie 50 FIRST DATES was hilarious. I felt extreme sadness for the character Lucy in which she lives the same day over and over again not remebering what happened the last day. With commercialism they watch the movie THE SIXTH SENSE in which the film company Miramax and Blockbuster probably slipped a few bucks in since the movie is a Previously Viewed Tape from the store and a Miramax/Dimension movie. I loved and enjoyed this film so much!
This is a really sweet story and one of the most original romatic comedy plots I've seen in years. It shows lessons about unconditional love and being attracted to people based on more than physical apperance. Unfortuantely, it seems Adam Sandler movies have to have a certain quoata of bad language, sick jokes and large quantities of vomit. If you can fast forward through that, enjoy. If you don't want your kids to think that kind of thing is funny, beware.
Wow, did I miss something or am I really that desensized? I really don't remember all the crude sexual stuff the review mentioned. I can think of a few but don't recall it being so bad. Maybe I'm out to lunch but I thought it was funny and cute.
I won't go into details, but 50 First Dates isn't a good movie. First of all, it is occasionally boring, also, it is directed terribly. The sexual content was also more than I could bear. Definately NOT acceptable.
Adam Sandler has been my favorite actor for some time. Through his movies they have all been similar yet different in good ways. I have noticed his newer movies (since Big Daddy, my personal favorite movie) have been becoming more child friendly and less vulgar/rude (except Drunk Punch Love which doesn't really fit in with his other movies and Anger Management which wasn't very vulgar but not necessarily child friendly only because of sexual themes). That is a good thing for a mainstream audience. I thought the story was sad but had happy moments, it was great. The real thing to talk about though is Sean Astin. Being a fan of LotR I wanted to see how Sean Astin would be in a different role then Samwise Gamgee. He was really funny.
Some of the humor may be crude but for kids my age it would be considered as 'funny'. It was really sweet that Adam Sandler was taking Drew Barrymore out on dates, even though the next morning she wouldn't remember anything.
