My son loves this movie. It was on cable for a little while and then when they took it off he was sad, he kept asking for Alvin. It's so cute to watch him see the movie, he has even memorized some of the parts. There should be more movies like this one.

cute & funny
I thought the movie was cute. My kids loved the movie. It is diffidently a family movie night kinda movie. Adults can watch it and get a laugh here and there but the best part is watching your kids roll on the floor laughing when they poot rofl.

Very cute movie.
First off, I want to say that the Chipmunks were absolutely adorable, and I think that the voice actors did a very good job. I thought the movie was going to be terrible, but it was actually very cute, and it even made me laugh a few times. The movie is very kid friendly, so I would say 7 and up. This is probably the most adorable movie I have ever seen.

Better than expected
I watched this with my wife and 6-year-old and don't remember anything I found particularly objectionable. What I do remember is that I thought it was going to be terrible and wound up with a"feel good" kind of movie.

portrayl of and toward women ruined it for me, chipmunks were adorable
Small kids might be oblivious to this. Regardless of persons age, there were so many inappropriate portrayals of women in this movie. The chipmunks themselves were amazing and the animation,...etc. This movie is NOT a cartoon, but has real people and real seeming chipmunks. When he shows up at work, all these females come from every direction suggestively under the guise of innocense. There are various times where females are glamoured up and wear revealing clothes. The movie could have been good otherwise. I saw another movie with a red for the sexual square, and found this movie more offensive in my opinion. The chipmunks themselves were great and charming.

Got What We Expected
Alvin and the Chipmunks is an all around bore. Humor is unimaginative and the story, while easy to follow for young children, will numb the minds of most teens and adults. I found myself daydreaming during most of the film. The comments you will read regarding the inappropriate use of sensuality and provocative clothing are dead on. The dance scene was over the top and reminiscent of a hip-hop video, with a close up of a women's bare hips and belly. This is a movie of mismatched themes and lowball humor.

surprisingly enjoyable
I am very picky about kids' movies. I hate most standard fare and am usually appalled by the level of violence & poor social messages in kids' entertainment. But I genuinely enjoyed this movie, and my kids (ages 7 & 4) loved it!! The mild potty humor & slapstick comedy is perfectly appropriate, and very funny, for a juvenile audience. Ian's character is manipulative but not a monster or too scary, and his character provides a opportunity to talk to kids about trusting your gut (who can you really trust vs. who sounds nice but might be trying to trick you). Yes, I noticed the tight clothes on the female dancers, but they are a small part of the movie and, in my opinion, no big deal compared to the much worse sexist stereotyping of something like Snow White or Barbie Fairytopia. The chipmunks are very cute, clever, fun-loving, and slightly sassy in a very kid-friendly way - what could kids love more! This movie has a positive message (be true to yourself, stick together with friends & family) and it's truly fun to watch. I rarely buy DVDs but am thinking about getting this one. This is a good one!

I was disgusted with the backup singers/ dancers
This was a movie like many ruined by some of the content. The backup singers/dancers were dressed very provocativelyy. I did not appreciate my 11 year old boy being exposed to all the female skin and sexually provocative dancing that they produced. Just because it was in the background did not make it any less offensive. Another example of the media exposing our kids to things we wouldn't. They also included "bubbly" (champagne). Why do our kids need exposed to this? Because Hollywood wants to shape their values. We shouldn't fall for it as parents. Don't become numb by exposure.

Could have been a terrific G movie
My 7 year old son had seen this movie with his grandfather. He loved the movie. Unfortunately, the memorable moments he talked about were mostly potty humor related. Based on his report I was saddened to find out that it sounded like the chipmunks I remembered had been degraded down to poop jokes. Then I went and saw the movie myself. With my low expectations, I was actually pleasantly surprised. It wasn't as bad as I feared. I definitely think they could have left out the potty humor and words like "sucks" and "butt." The language and jokes could have been just a little different and then the movie would have been perfect and rated G. The messages about family and taking care of your self were nicely portrayed. Overall I am glad both my son and I saw the movie. We did have a talk about potty humor afterwards. The music was a lot of fun and we are now owners of the soundtrack so we can sing with the chipmunks at home.

Alvin is back.
Overrall not a horrible movie. My kids really enjoyed the movie, there were a few things they could have left out, but it will probably go over most kids heads. There is one scene where the chipmunks try to help Dave out in the love department and play a Barry White type song if you get my drift. But, it does a good job of teaching kids about structure and doing the right thing, which the chipmunks try to do.

Good Family Fun
We took our 4 year old to go see this and it was good fun for the whole family. A lot of laughs were had. I put this as appropropriate for 5-7, only because I think the age range of 2-4 is too young for most in that age bracket. Good clean fun and a lot of silly laughs were had. We saw this at a dollar theater and it was good family bonding while a cheap day out at the same time.

I cried! Where are the real Alvin, Simon and Theodore?!
What a disappointment. I saw this with a friend so we could decide whether to take our kids (ages 6 and 7). I should have known with the most recent cartoon redos that this would be more of the same style updating. Crude behavior, sexy dress, and plenty of potty mouthed sexual innuendo to boot. The chipmunks that I remember were mischievous but more in a Dennis the Mennace sort of way. The Chipmonks 2007 are far too Bart Simpson. I'm not sure what movie makers are thinking. A film that is marketed towards kids would do much better at the box office if it really was a kids movie. I have 3 and I won't be buying tickets for them. I am part of several Mom's groups and have shared my opinions with other moms. When someone comes across something great for kids, we all jump at the chance to share the experience with our kids. When we come across something like this Chipmunk movie that is totally inappropriate for anyone in elementary school, we save each other the time and money that would have been wasted by attending. Listen up Hollywood, You are capable of so much better. Why do you insist on throwing in the trash talk, scantily clad girls, and the sexual behavior? What about that says to you "Hmmm, this is what I want my kids to see"? We will search for some of the old cartoons of Alvin and the gang and introduce the kids to them the right way. Save your money and spend your time doing something really great with your kids, trust me, this movie will leave you with much explaining to do. Why seek out that kind of headache? Go ice skating or bowling instead.

Funny, Cute, Family-friendly
A couple of the reviewers recommended for children ages 8 and 13 but I agree with the rest of the reviews that suggest around age 5 and up. We took our 4 and 5 year olds and we all enjoyed it. We are conservative but not ultra-conservative and we had no issue with the use of the word "butt" which was used a couple of times; other than that, I can't recall any possible language concerns. My husband, myself, and both the kids were laughing periodically throughout the movie and my son wanted to dance. It was cute and just the right length of time for young kids (an hour and a half).

One of the best talking animal family movies in the history of movies! No swearing and no sex. Alvin and the Chipmunks is loads of fun for kids and adults.

TOTALLY ADORABLE!!!!!!
So cute!!!! My parents loved it, and they are in their late 40's!! (A tip, just watch it, don't analyze it. It's more fun that way!) There is some bad stuff (skimpy outfits), lies, and stuff like singing, "don'tcha wish your girlfriend was hot like me". Also, later in the movie the chipmunks sing typical rap music, that contains iffy lyrics about how "smooth" they are with girls, and stuff like taht. (later in the movie, though, one comments how he doesn't like the new music) Other than that, ENJOY!!!! I heart this movie!!!!!!!!

This is a cute movie that makes all the episodes of Alvin and the chipmunks look preety bad. The movie was hystarical, and adorably cute! However when the chipmunks are singing on stage the wman, and some of the men wear very tight clothing, and Alvin slightly innapropriatly way to try and get Dave and his ex girlfriend back together by turning on the fireplace, playing romantic slow music, dimming the lights, and cuiing him to make his move.

funny
Despite it's kid-oriented marketing plan and stupid-seeming trailers, this movie is a good, clean, funny, heartwarming movie! Granted it has an unrealistic plot and some immature humor, but it is relatively decent. Great job, Jesse Mcartney. Overall, decent movie 4+

This movie is yet another film based on a very old cartoon. It managed to be cute and a tad bit entertaining, but there were some silly moments that made me feel like a baby for watching.
