It was OK as a film. It was more sexual than it was violent. Too much sexual material. The violence was also shocking considering that it was PG-13. I've never seen someone get torn in half in a PG-13 film. LOL.

Perfect!
The best Robert Zemekis movie yet! Even though it's filled with moderate violence and sexual material, it seems alot better than the epic poem! If you want a perfect action movie, then Beowulf is the movie for you! My kids loved this movie, and they said if they were registered for this site, they would gie it 5/5 too!

Fun, but sometimes boring
It was quite violent for its rating. The film was sometimes boring, but the animation was great.

Not one of my favourites
The animations in this movie were amazing, at first I thought it was live-action! There is a fair amount of nudity and violence; Grendel's mother is completely naked, and nothing is covered. Beowulf is naked for an entire fight, but you don't see anything besides his behind. The action is intense and bloody, especially during the sea monster battles. There is also a part where Beowulf cuts off his own arm. Grendel is pretty disgusting, and the strobe lights during the grendel scenes make them equivilent to a scary horror flick. This movie was pretty fun to watch, but it is definitely not for children. Fourteen and up. I say that it should be rated PG-13, because it is animated. If it was live action, it would definitely be rated R.

I WISH I HAD READ COMMONSENSE BEFORE I SAT MY FAMILY DOWN TO WATCH THIS
I wish I had read the Common Sense review before sitting my family down to watch this movie. Even at the ages 14 and 16 1/2, the movie made my kids uneasy.

THE WORST MOVIE

Should be R !!!
Too violent and sexual for PG-13. Don't know how they got by with this rating. Other than that, the moral of the story (don't let yourself be seduced or you'll be sorry for the rest of your life) might be an important message for some who might be tempted by the devil. Other than this, the animation looks great and the dragon was fantastic !

The most realistic animation yet!
I didn't know the entire film was computer animated (some of you may be saying DUH). Anyway, at first I thought it would be another Shrek-esque movie, but I was pleasantly surprised. D&Der's will love this movie, but there is enough action and plot to keep even women interested. WARNING:Yes, Angelina Jolie is naked, but they can justify the PG-13 rating because she is JUST a computer animation right? Right? Animation has come a long way and I would get red in the cheeks watching this with my 10 year old son.

Too Sexy For This Age
Well, personally, I think there was way too much violence and sexual content. Nude battles and sex scenes. My brother and I agreed that they ruined the book.

Fairly enjoyable for an adult. Not for kids!!!
Very disappointed with the rating given for this movie. After having his ears plugged and eyes covered for most of the first 15 minutes, I had grandma come pick up my thirteen year old. I finished watching, "most" of the movie myself, covering my own eyes at some parts, when the gore became a little too much. The sexual inuendos and the almost full nudity is far from a PG-13 rating.

My wife and I were both sickened as we watched. We've never walked out on a movie...until this one. Animation was simply the way of getting around being able to commit violence that would not be allowed in a non-animated movie. Embarrassed to be in this movie with our friends, embarrassed to leave them there - but the violence and sexuality was extreme for us.

Every hot-blooded teen age boys' dream movie
I took my 10 year old son to see this movie (hey it was rated PG-13 and was animated, how bad could it really be?). I read a quick review at the box office b4 I purchased tickets. Parents be warned... not for any kid under 13. This was an "adult" animated film. TONS of nudity, sexual inuendos and adult situations. The reviews fail to mention all this. I mentioned my concerns to the movie theater as we left. This movie is fine for OLDER teens and adults only- and I'm not a prude, really. PS.. don't let your young daughter see this with a boyfriend... you'll be asking for trouble, I'm positive!

Always great, always violent.
Great fantasy flick about brave warrior fighting evil demons, monsters and creatures. This is a great movie but anyone 10 and under can't see this movie.

so much blood and gore
i saw this when i was 8 (maybe 9). it was the first bloody movie that i had seen. and now it still is the most bloddy movie ive seen. (well maybe not i saw 30 days of night). even in the first 20 minutes theres gallons of blood because the grendle dude comes and he rips peaple in half and then pours the blood out of them. he chucks people at the cieling, steps on them, and throws them at spikes (remeber, all in 20 min.) then i kinda remeber angie jolie like all sexy and stuff. and then beowulf rips off his arm so he can stick it in the dragons body and rip out the heart. so beowulf dies at the end. should be rated r though because of all the blood. after i wacthed it my dad was like "wow i dont remeber it being so bloody."

GORE!
brilliant movie but way too gory. beowulf rips out a dragons heart and isreally graphical. quite funny though in the cinima. when grendel wakes up and screams i jumped out of my seat! good for 13+ but in england it should be a 15 and a R in usa.

Very Violent
I think Beowulf should have been rated R. It is one of the most violent movies i have ever seen. There is alot of blood and gore and oozing bodily fluids. But besides all of the violence it is a good story. it is supposed to be based off the epic poem, but i read it and it's almost nothing like the movie.

Don't agree with 15+. Loved the movie, go see it if you want a good time, but nly ses it if you have the stomach for it.

Beowulf should be rated-R but it teaches good lessons.
This movie should be rated r. It actually does teach a good lesson though. There is a great amount of violence and full frontal nudity, but it teaches the lesson that heroes don't always win.

APPALLING!!!!!
This movie is animated so you think the violance shouldn't be bad at all right? that is exactly what I thought but there is a TUN of violance and it is all very graphic and bloody. It includes a monster ripping bodies apart and you see people die in these graphic ways such as getting an axe go right through their head and blood flying EVERYWHERE! there is a lot of adult material such as nudity and language. even though it is PG-13 you should listen to what they say NO ONE UNDER 15!!!!!!!

DISGUSTING... not for kids
Well... where to start. I CANNOT believe that this was rated PG-13/12A. It starts off as a scene with everyone getting COMPLETELY drunk, and then Grendel come in and rips everyone's head off, with blood spurting across the wall. Then Beowulf is introduced, and he tells of his swimming race, which is shortly followed by a massive fight with sea monsters (EXTREMELY bloody) There is one bit where he slices the creature's stomach open and their guts spill out very graphically, he is swallowed by another, stabs his sword through its eye and emerges dripping with blood. Also horror is there, Grendel looks disgusting, dripping with slime and ear pulsating. Finally, there is also plenty of nudity and sexual references and discussions. I and my friends sat through about 15mins of this and then walked out (a first for me). Seriously, do NOT waste your cash on this junk.

this movie was good. i thought the blood was worse than 300 but thicker! the begining was scary i thought because i do not watch that many scary movies but i love action packed. i thought the movie was great the only thing that turned me off was angelinas hair that wassssss soooooo wierd!!! GREAT MOVIE

Misunderstood and Judged
The movie for myself was a great one. Man, it just hit the spot. Now, i just want to run to the bookstore and read the book. I think the reviews are ridiculous. You don't take a 9,10,11,12,13, and 14 year old to see a movie like this. Did you read why it was pg-13 in the first place. It said nudity and violence. The violence i thought was great. I'm one to enjoy the action and adventure in a movie. The nudity was a bit much but i think it was put in there for comedy and understanding purposes. The way they covered up his gentials was humerous and funny. Me, my friend and all the people in the theater laughed our heads off. Now, when Angelina Jolie appeared in that golden unclothed body, it sent something out to you. She is a seductive vixen who lures men into her biddings by sexual influences. It had a point. When Grendal was killing people with no remorse and was bieng gory about, that had a point as well. It sent out the message that he is a terrible beast who kills and needs to be killed. To get to the point, the movie was great, i just wouldn't have elementary kids and middle school kids seeing this.

This movie does fall far from the original epic poem but still entertaining. I liked it and so did my uncle who came along. There is blood, the violence was taken to the limit on PG-13 and there was sex which Beowulf fights Grendle naked in order to be equal to him (you have to see it to understand that) along with innuendo and dialog. You should take any kid whose 13 or above.

PG-13 version of 300
Beowulf was probably my favorite movie since transformers, mabey even 300. It's a little confusing to me that it got a PG-13 rating, there's a lot of violence and some pretty deep issues imbeded in it. This is not a good idea for anyone under 15. The violence and alcohol swigging (those Norse dudes love their mead) are prevelent from the begining, and a guy gets ripped in half in the first scene (only shows shadow of event, but body is found later). There are some deep moral issues, and Grendel's mother is techically naked, but so is Grendel and Beowulf at one point. They also make you think by showing the initial impact of Jesus on the rest of the world. It really is an amazing flick, and I had a lot of fun, and had to think about it, and I'd expect nothing less from a script co-written by Neil Gaiman. Also, if you can, see it in 3D

Wow..shouldn't be PG 13...

Weird
I personally didn't have a problem with the nudity or violence (and what they said about the amount of blood being comparable to Quentin is totally wrong), I was just surprised that the MPAA would let this much nudity be in a PG-13 movie. Your kid might be 13, but they probably aren't ready to see this much nudity in a sexualized fashion.

Fun movie but not for kids
Beowulf was very exciting and interesting but there was a lot of violence. There was also a decent amount of sexual content too. I would say ages 13-14+

Are you SURE it isn't pronounced "Gay-o-wulf?"
I absolutely cannot believe I wasted two hours of my life sitting through this God-awful GARBAGE. Parents, if you want to waste your money on this, be my guest; but please, PLEASE don't take the kids. As seen in the trailer, Angelina Jolie is totally naked, plus in one scene Beowulf strips completely naked to fight "the monster." His "thing" is covered by obscure items, but his butt is shown throughout. Plus, the violence is way too graphic for this film to even be considered to be PG-13 instead of R in my book. Need I go on? Well, if I must...the dialouge is terrible, the actors' talents are wasted, the story is hokey and predictable, and the film droned on and on and on until the eventual suck-ey ending occured. Go see this for nothing more than to see the "Cloverfield" trailer, probably the most excting part in the whole time I was in the theater I went to. :( yawn...
