What Parents Need to Know

About How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Parents need to know that this movie is rated PG for brief crude humor (the Grinch tricks another character into kissing a dog's rear end) and comic peril. The movie may be too intense and overwhelming for children under 6 or 7. The movie's one major drawback is the near-absence of people of color in Whoville. Families that do not celebrate Christmas may also have some concerns about the movie.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about why it is so easy to forget the simple pleasures of the winter holidays, and how damaging it can be to peoples' feelings to tease them about being different. The Grinch often does things that he thinks will make him feel better. Do they work? Do they help him forget his loneliness? Why not? Why doesn't being bad feel as good as you might think?

    A funny family Christmas movie

Brings the wackiness of Dr. Seuss to life. The wittiness of Jim Carrey is seen here. COuld have down without the dog hiney kiss.

How The Grinch Stole Christmas is the live-action remake of the famous Dr. Seuss book, as well as the cartoon special. It's a great Christmas movie, and aside from a romantic backstory to the Grinch's hatred of the holidays might confuse especially younger viewers, most everyone will enjoy it. However, I do recommend the original cartoon over this one, as the original of anything can never be truly replaced or outdone.

    Cute holiday movie

This is a delightful holiday movie. I do have a concern, though. The Grinch eats glass in one scene. This has troubled me ever since I first saw it-- before I even had children. That is the only thing that concerns me about really young children watching it.

    Pointless Really...

Nothing really to be concerned about. The Grinch acts apon his crush on a classmate. Later he tricks the mayor into thinking that classmate wants to kiss him, when it's really the dog's rear end. Yuck! I love How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The book is one of my favorites, and so is the animated movie. This movie isn't bad, it's just pointless. But if you want, go ahead and try it.

    *Yawn*

I can't believe they gave this 5 stars. I was bored watching it in theaters, and watching it a few years later, I'm equally bored. Stick with the animated one!

Wonderful for ages 8 and up

This is one of the best movies of all time that don't dissapoint you in the ways of messing up the story. The ad-ins and the noses are hilarious. The Whos are really well costumed. They also did a great job making the Grinchs' costume. The Grinch himself was very sly and clever, a detail that I think Dr. Seuss looked over and the film makers did a wonderful job of expressing it. Cindy is kinda to cute, and the Where are you Chrismas? song was a little to much sugar in my tea. But it was otherwise a great movie!

Seuss should not be made into a movie

While my children really enjoyed this movie, I'm convinced that Dr. Seuss should not be adapted into film. The types of books he writes are not condusive to movies, so why bother.
