Action and Sci-fi suspense for parents but think twice, maybe three times, before allowing children to watch

Parents: If you like action and sci-fi suspense this movie is for you but think twice before you let children under 13 watch this movie. Some scenes will be too scary for younger viewers.

A Stellar Thriller With a Thoughtful Side...

I AM LEGEND could have been a bad movie. The people making it could have messed up in many ways. However, they turn the flaws of the story into advantages. Its biggest asset is Will Smith's powerhouse performance. The script is very well-written also. The people making this movie took a big risk. Instead of making it an all-out action thriller with mindless, constant violence, they took the story line and made it, primarily, a tragedy about one man left alone in the world (with some great action pieces on the side). Parents need to know that this movie is very intense. Even when the action lets up, the emotion doesn't, and several scenes are emotionally draining, whether by fright or sadness. I don't like to include SPOILERS! in my reviews, but for the sake of a well-informed review, I will now. SPOILER! About 50 minutes into the movie, Neville's dog, Sam, becomes infected with the virus. He must strangle her before she becomes a zombie like the rest, and, since the dog is his only companion through the movie, this scene will be too overpowering for kids under 12 at least. END OF SPOILERS. In addition to that emotional scene, there are several others detailing the death of Neville's wife and daughter (helicopter crash). There's no more violence in the movie than there is in, say, a SPIDER-MAN film, but many scenes featuring the zombies will be frightening for kids. The film has a constant feel of desperation and despair, and while I wouldn't call it disturbing, it makes the film NOT for kids.

    It was a good movie.

I really like this movie. There was like one or two scary moments but they didn't last long. Will smith is a great actor and all of his movies are worth watching. NO KIDS THOUGH.

Watch Charelton Heston Omega Man for original. From what I remember and my kids were watching, there was nothing they hadn't seen before.

We left the movie after only 15 minutes into it. DEPRESSING movie. Not like a good Will Smith movie at all. DO NOT GO TO THIS MOVIE.

A great movie, but extremely intense....

Well to start off, I found this movie to be just the kind of movie that I like... Filled with suspense. Parents, know right now that this movie is NOT for children under 14. The fact that the mutants only come out at night makes the movie very frightening. From the moment the movie starts until the moment it ends the action and intensity never stops. The movie is filled with jump scenes, and the movie is very loud. For a Will Smith movie, the language is very tame. Sex is limited to a passionate kiss. The violence is pushing the PG-13 limits by alot. In one scene Dr. Robert Neville goes on a suicide mission to kill as many infected mutants as he can before he gets killed. He is rescued by a woman and taken back to his house. There is alot of blood seen on the walls, and when Robert gets bitten you see blood on his shoulder. Some fourteen year olds will be fine watching this movie, but I reccomend this to all teens 15 and older who enjoy intense movies...

One of the Best Sci-Fi Flicks in a Long, Long Time!!

When my husband wanted to buy this movie on demand, I thought that I would not like it, but much to my surprise, I loved the movie! In fact, I loved it so much that the next day, I went down to my local video store and bought "I Am Legend!!" Will Smith carried this movie by himself, and did a darn good job doing so! The only regret I have about this movie is that they didn't show too much about the beginning, and how all of the mutation took place. It just started out with "Three Years Later." Nonetheless, the movie bonified me as a Will Smith fan. I am Legend is one of those movies that you could watch over and over again. Actually it took me three times watching I am Legend to realize that his wife and daughter were killed in a helicopter accident. All in all, this movie kicked ass, but better than that, handsome and sexy Smith showed the world, once again, that he still has it going on!!

    Terrifying - not for kids!

I cannot imagine any kids or young teens watching this movie! The idea of being separated from family members would be too scary for most kids. I had to leave the room several times and my husband had nightmares. Will Smith is a great actor but this was just too sad and ends sad. The scene with the dog was excruciating, the terrorizing zombies that come out after dark would make most kids sleep with the lights on for the rest of their lives, and the thought of being the lone survivor of a horrifying apocalyptic viral takeover makes this movie only appropriate for older teens and adults. It's very, very dark and scary and I think the violence alone should have warranted a rating of an R.

not what i was hoping for

This movie was ok but not as good as it could have been. I am tired of cgi that doesn't fit. the monsters at first are scary but then degrade into fake looking computer graphics. The story is good and will smith is great. This movie could have been great but the studio or producers settled for o.k.

    Will Smith's best Movie ever...

Some say this was not good Smith. I would say they are lovers of the Fresh Prince of... or Men in Black schmick folk, all in all decent stuff.... This is a really good movie, that would rate no matter who played the lead, just so happens Smith does.

Sometimes a disturbing film and lots of scary, jump scenes. You know it's coming and yet... I watched this without my 13 year old and I am glad he missed it. He would have had nightmares. The film does show us how terrible it is to play God.

    Know What You're Getting Into

It's an amazing movie, very different, with an emphasis on Christian morals. However, if your kids don't like the dark, this won't help them one bit. A very sad movie; multiple intense moments.

    Horrible for Will Smith Movie!

This was the worst Will Smith movie I ever seen! Story line was interesting, but it needed a lot of explaination what is going on. After you finish this movie, you'll feel like you just have wasted your precious time.. Due to the nature of the story line (very possible, thus scary), I think it should have been R.

    Interesting concept but for ADULTS

The scary images and violence portrayed by both the "bad guys" and the "good guy" push this one into a R rating for me. Also, if you rate it PG13 than parents of "mature" 10 year olds will let them watch it. Always be more careful with your children.

i thought this movie ruled!!!! i thought it had lots of big scares because there was no music so you were not aware when stuff popped out. and for the people who said this should be rated nc-17 go screw yourself! i really thought there were some cool moments and a couple sad moments. boo-hoo!!!!!!!! like when ****** and *** died.p.s. i put stars so i wouldn't spoil anything for you

    2 times too many

I followed the hype and went for the IMAX experience. It was OK. The zombie like creatures reminded me more of "The Mummy" and i kept thinking Brendon Fraser was going to pop out and start slaying the beasts. Another words, not believable, so the movie was crap. Its hard to believe you can come up with a cure for something that far gone as to when injected with this cure change back into normal. come on guys those creatures were disturbing and there was no hope in them turning human again. I am indeed a Will Smith fan, however there really was no reason to remake this film just for todays glorified special effects. waste of time, yet single tear goes out for the dog...

NOT FOR KIDS UNDER 13 Years

NOT FOR KIDS under 13 years of age. Friends took our 7 year old son to see this movie and he has been sleepless for two nights since seeing it. They should not have taken him to a PG-13 w/out telling us, but thought PG-13 and PG were the same thing...and hey, it was Will Smith, who we all love. My son was so freaked out during the movie that he asked them to take him home right after the guy killed the dog with his bare hands. He's been pretty freaked out ever since. Should have been a hard R rating - although I know that means less box office $$. Don't take little kids who get scared at movies to take this, it has left a lasting impression!!!

Best first horror/ thriller film! *SPOILERS*

this movis had a few scares as well as a operation/injection on a mutant which jumps up which scared me. the sad oart is when...***SPOILER*** the dog, sam dies. it is also weird when a manniquen named fred is standing in front of a building and you see it's head move! good first scary film! :-)

    sad. but good

prettty good. might startle kids 8 and under. very sad. not even scary. it was probably only rated PG-13 for the sadness. because *SPOILER******** dog, sam, gets bitten and will smith has to kill her to survive. its funny because hes like "hey fred what the heck you doin" meanwhile fred is a maniquinn. not scary just makes you jump becasue most of the movie is just him trying to stay alive. then when theres action, its loud and startles you. like when sammy gets lost in the building he goes into look for her and sees the mutants feeing. then they start screeching and run towards him and you jump because you dont expect it.

    Good quality. Some startling scenes.

This movie is excellent and has emotion flowing from it. You really feel what Robert Nivelle is feeling. Not a happy ender though. And lots of scenes were zombies jump out. My 20 year old brother and I both jumped considerably. I would see it just for the emotion, the music and the acting. There is something full of love behind it, besides the bad ending.

A Top Rated Will Smith movie

I thought this was a very good movie for Will Smith, if you are easily afriad of scary looking creatures, then I wouldn't recommend this movie for you. There are scary parts in this film, throughout in the movie, such as: things popping out, especially the scene where Will Smith finds himself in the dark. But its not a very scary movie. The theme of this movie is Will Smith lives in New York, with his wife, daughter and dog. Then suddenly everyone starts getting cancer, So everyone is evacuating out, but some people are not allowed to leave because they are contaminated. Most of the time Will Smith is trying to figure out the cure for cancer, then at the end of the movie , he figures out the formula. There is other stuff that concludes to that at the end but i'm not going to say because it would ruin the movie for you. But, the way this movie ended I think there should be a #2 movie.

    ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES!

this is THE best sci fi movie to come out since the Matrix Reloaded. i really have no idea how anybody over the age of 8 could get scared because of this movie. its got great action, and i love this theory of how the world will end. the language is mild. the violence is pretty heavy but not very bloody. plenty of shooting. the last scene was very unexpected but in a strange way, i enjoyed it immensely. the special effects are awesome. theres not sexual content. 13 and up

good at first bad after book

THe movie is good and so is the book. however if you ever are going to see this then don't read the book. it will be a disappointment if you do. however if you do read the book then as soon as you start seeing little randomstories that don't go with the rest of the book stop reading. unless you like random short horror stories. I just think it's stupid when people "base" things off of books and go a completely different direction. so if you see the movie avoid the book and if you read the book avoid the movie.

    i loved it

this movie was great! it scared me a lot, but i went with friends and they didn't find it scary. (it was my second scary movie ever, so...) the mutant people jump out from hiding a lot, and that's a big scaring-factor for me. the violence is mainly Will Smith trying to protect himself from the mutants. he does carry guns, and he does shoot the mutants. has a great plotline. kept my attention.

  25. Teen Reviewer Age 14

    Interesting

I dont really know why this was rated as high, or why, really. It's not really that scary at all, and there's not that much violence. The worst bit, actually, was an emotional bit, where (dont read on if you dont want it to spoil the movie) his dog dies.
