Why We Rated This on for Ages 10 and Up

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

A distinctly unfriendly community is the setting, with kids who defy and mouth off to adults and pull pranks (though everything comes out right at the end thanks to their intervention).
  • Violence:

Much-threatened and occasionally carried out, in the form of beatings, bitings, stingings, and stompings mostly by nastied-up members of the animal kingdom. Shooting also threatened by a maniacal hunter.
  • Sex:

    Not an issue.
  • Language:

    "Damn" here and there.
  • Consumerism:

    Not an issue.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About Jumanji

Parents need to know that this film has lots of thrills and perils but little joy, as monstrous jungle predators pour out of an enchanted board game to overwhelm hapless kids and adults in a depressed New England town. It may be too intense for some kids, although young viewers who aren't nightmare-prone will be diverted by the creatures, computer-generated by the same Hollywood whizzes who brought to life the dinosaurs of Jurassic Park.

    My concerns are:
    • Excessive violence

I realize my account name could make ppl believe

to think "Jumanji's" my fav movie. It was, up until I saw "Forrest Gump," which is now my current fav. Also I watched "Jumanji" again after making this new account, (my old account on here was also "jumanji-lover" but with a hyphen) and realized it wasn't AS good as I remembered, but it's still a classic tween movie in my book. I love all the action, but always cover my eyes during the ENORMOUS tarantulas scene.

Scary for some kids, but I love it!

Love the movie, but it scares a lot of my friends. My 11 year old friends are even afraid of it.

This is my favorite movie ever!

This movie was a little scary with all the music and stuff but over all it was the best movie ever! I loved the whole idea the boy getting sucked into the board game and then coming out and meeting everyone again. It was nothing like the book and I'm glad. It was a great movie!

    A Great Family Adventure...

'Jumanji' is a great piece of popcorn-munching entertainment the whole family could enjoy. It's a really fun flick, full of family-friendly thrills and humor; although be warned: it is a bit dark for a family film. It's okay for kids who could handle 'Indiana Jones' or 'Star Wars.'

    A Classic

Just a movie you need to see, although some of the things in it look a bit weird. The movie is worth watching. Plot: A boy and girl that are both home alone in a "haunted" house find a game board and start playing it, but before the read the rules which says they can not end the game until finished, once they start playing everything that they read comes to life such as "violent monkey" and a stampede of Rhinos. They also get a man who was stuck in the game for over 20 years out of the game. stars: 4 not for ages 8 and under
