No little kids, maybey 10+ but this movie is scary!!!!!!

Some smoking, one character is in revealing clothes, reffrences to female body parts (breasts), people are killed often with blood occasionaly shown, one man is accidently wipped with a rope and large amounts of blood is drawn and later displayed graphicly, natives in skimpy clothes are shown in a very scary matter, one native brutally kills a man with a large piece of wood, people are thrown, crushed, bitten, and even hit with a stick all of these deaths are shown with disturbing realism. This movie is defintley a great movie that I strongly recommend. Peter jackson always does great films and this is truly a great film!

we saw king kong as a family. It was a bit too much for me and my kiddos. We ended up fast forwarding thru a few spots such as when the giant worm things "eat" some characters. The violence was realistic but a bit intense. I would highly recommend this movie be screened for your child before they see it. All in all it was an ok movie. Great in some spots a bit over done in other spots. It could have been shortened without loosing any plot details. Great movie for 15 and over, iffy for 13 & 14. not for under 12 IMHO. :)

Excellent, spectacular action movie: might scare younger children.

My two older kids say this movie, and they enjoyed it. They wouldn't even stand up to go to the bathroom until it was over, which was very strange. The movie is great, but it's 3 hours long. If you are into action and adventures, this movie is one worth sitting through, but younger kids might get scared. There is a scene with giant roaches that climb on peoples backs, and one of the main characters is surprised by a hidden tarantula. This movie either grosses you out, or gives you energy. I would rate this movie: PG-13.

A Rousing, Engaging, and Stunning Adaptation!

KING KONG is a fun movie. It starts out slow, gets a little creepy, then takes off a full force and maintains a breakneck pace that is exhilarating but manages to play out the touching relationship between Ann and Kong. The film is violent. Very violent. People are thrown by big apes, attacked and killed by giant bugs, scrificed alive by creepy indians, and stomped on by large dinosaurs. The violence mostly bloodless, but there is some here and there. The indians (who have immensly wrinkled skin and speak in grunts and chants) probably wouldn't be scary for anyone over 12 or 13, but they and the huge bugs and bats could be disturbing. Language is constant, with countless abuses of the Lord's name and several "h*lls" and "g**d**n"s. Sex is minor, with a brief reference to "boobies", a few kisses, and brief, non-graphic shots of the outside of a `30s stripper theater. It can be graphic. It can be creepy. But the visuals are stunning and the acting is great. Kong eventually wins you over to his side, and I gaurantee that by the end of the movie you'll be rooting for him over the pilots in the prop planes. Highly recommended.

    Not for the younger crowd!

This is a spectacular film filled with great special effects, but also scary and violent. There is a scene where men are eaten by giant bugs, and another suspense-filled scene where natives come and attack a group. The sexual content is minimal. A couple of kisses, and a misconstrued "employment" offer are as bad as it gets.

    A 13 and older film

Godd Outstanding remake of the 1933 King Kong. Sexual wise Naomi Watts gets a card that a guygives her and it ends up being a strippers theatere you see breif partial pictures but thats as faras it gets also there are about 3 kisses none of them prolnged.Lanuage no f's but 6 s*** and a dozenother misuses of the Lords name in vain.Violence very violent some graphic image when you see enormous bugs attack and dinsours but other than that just gun shooing and thematic elements.

    Fantastic movie

Definitely keep your younger ones away from this one. Fantastic for teens and older. Though there is constant violence, it takes place in a gorgeous world. The natives are very scary, equivalent to those in horror films. The giant bugs are absolutely disgusting. The main characters do a lot of running around and screaming, usually being forced to run from giant bugs, dinosaurs, King Kong, natives, and creepy things of the like. Many characters die. The filmmaker is a rather selfish person, but the movie doesn’t try and make you watch him the whole time. This is an amazing, eye-dazzling remake of the original. Peter Jackson did an unbelievable job, and I doubt there will be another remake after this one. It doesn’t get much better than this!

    Pretty Scary

Parents who take younger kids to this show will regret it. Although highly entertaining for an older crowd, and a spectacular eye-candy treat, it has some scenes of violence and scary images that would give some kids real nightmares. Be careful!

    too violent!!!

While the basic storyline and style of this movie are good, there is way too much violence and it does not contribute to the story. My 11 yr old and her grandmother both had to leave the theater. Naomi Watts does a lovely job as Kong's friend and love interest, but, unfortunately, the over the top violence obscures her touching performance.

    I hid my eyes often!

This is not a movie for children. In fact, quite a few children left during the tribal scenes and did not return- they were VERY disturbing- I wish I didn't see them. There were also several more very graphic and gory scenes. I wish theatres were more proactive about the ratings- if parents don't check this stuff out before they bring the kids the theatre should give them a heads up. For adults, the scenery was awesome but the movie was overdone- not overdone in a campy sense like early versions, just plain over the top with the graphic bug and animal scenes.

My 6 yr old son consoled ME. LOL

I took my 6 yr old son to see King Kong tonite with much hesitation after reading some reviews here. However I had talked to others that have seen it and they figured he could handle the content ok. He likes lots of action and actually gets disappointed when something in a movie doesn't 'scare' him. So I figured I'd give it a go and cover his eyes if need be. Ha... he did better than fine. He was actually pretty pumped to see the action and huge bugs. I'm certain he'll brag about the movie at school and I probably won't win mother of the year for taking him. LOL! At one point I had my hand over MY eyes from an intense scene and he says to me, "It's ok mom, it's ONLY a movie!" Hey, I personally don't like bugs. :) I did find the movie rather long for what it needed to say, and the fact that my son didn't listen to me and drank his mega pop and had to run out 3x for a 'break.' But for the most part, it held our interest and didn't feel like 3 hours once the action got going. The special effects were great. This movie will be in our collection when it's sold in stores. In all, it rated ok for me. I was much more wowed with The Chronicles of Narnia, but it was still enjoyable.

Well made but way too long and violent

The movie itself was very well made. The effects were amazing and the cinematography was outstanding. The period really felt like the early 1900's to mirror the original King Kong. This is where the positives end though. There was an incredible amount of uneccessary violence. The character responsible for ultimately capturing King Kong was a despicable despot that thought nothing of ruining people's lives by lieing, cheating, stealing, and risking others well being for his own personal gain. Odes of lessons by corporate America. The island natives were horrible creatures that resembled zombies and seemed only to exist to make sacrifices to King Kong. The adventure on the island itself was far too long and filled with violent scenes that would really scare most kids under twelve. The creatures that were encountered on Skull Island were very disturbing and could have been easily pared down to a minimum. The most disturbing thing to me was the total lack of respect shown by the leading male character for anything but his own success. There were some bright spots in the role of the first mate from the steamer, the leading lady whom did a great vaudeville act for the King of the Jungle, and the determination of the screen writer character to win the love of the heroine. I would strongly warn parents about the message and the graphic violence contained in this film and not recommend it for viewers under fourteen in any case.

    very violent

Was not expecting it to be so violent. I knew there would be some,but... the natives looked like they came from a horror movie. And when the giant insects attack them.... I'm glad I did not bring my 14 yr old nephew he would have had nightmares. For adults it would be fine if you don't mind the scary stuff. It also had some very tender and sweet moments between Kong and the woman.

Me and my dad saw this movie in theaters and thought it was amazing!!! This movie was really long and some scenes could have been compressed down, like "the bug scene". the real bad violence happen from a distance and blood is limited.

I was very surpized to find tears in my eyes!

The movie is exiting and dramatic. The acting from Jack Black, Adrien Brody, and Naomi Watts is amazing. When I got the movie, I expected to see an action flick where a gigantic gorrila attacks a city. I was pleasently surprized that it was actually a wonderful story about sacrifice. Ann Darrow (Naomi Watts) understands King Kong in his solitary existance on skull Island. Jack Driscoll (Adrian Brody) tries to draw Kong away from the city and risks his life to save Ann. We are taught lessons about not ruining the things we love and that the heros aren't ones who look the best. It is anoying that God's name is taken in vain too many times to count.

Awesome! But very gross, creepy, and pretty darn violent sometimes.

This is a spectacular film. The action sequences are thrilling, scary sometimes, and just plain awesome. But parents, no matter how much your kids want ot see this movie, it is appropriate only for 13 and up. Even 13-year-olds may freak out at it. There are many gruesome scenes involving horrorrific monsters eating members of the VENTURE crew. The scene I found the most terrifying and gross was when the giant maggots ate Lumpy. They really just engulfed him. It's horrible to see this huge nasty worm close it's mouth over a guy's head and face. And that really happened in the movie. There are many other very gross insects, including a giant millipede. Other than the bugs, there are many dinosaurs who eat multiple other characters and various other gruesome deaths are in the film. Slobbering veliciraptors, giant bats, t-rexes, brontosauruses who don't watch what they step on, (hint, hint) giant bugs described earlier, and king kong of course, inhabit skull island. Another very violent scene is where king kong bites off the head of a minor character, but this is not seen in close up. As for language, there are many "Jesus Christs" and "Oh my Gods" and many other very colorful phrases. Like it's said it the CSM review, Ann runs around in her slip and there is a referance to "boobies" for sexual content. (Also a kiss or two) So the violence is over the top sometimes, very thrilling, but also disgusting and disturbing. But parents, any teen can handle this, believe or not. And they WILL see it eventually, so let them, because it's an excellent film that deserved an academy award but for what I know, didn't get one. Watch it, but only if you're as tall as this review.

Never saw the original but the visuals were phenomenal. Not reccomended for younger children. There are some very frightening scenes involving giant insects and a battle between Kong and three gnarly looking T-rex. The end made me cry when Kong was slain and fell from the top of the Empire State Building. Really draws you in. Overall a great film.

I disagree with the parents talking about all the violence, it's rated pg-13 for a reason! Don't take a 6 year old to a PG-13 movie and expect them to be okay. island scene TOTALLY unneccessary

i was excited to see King Kong...i thought, seeing as it's peter jackson, that it would be incredible. and it was...some of it. the action sequences with kong were wonderfully done, but i was very freaked out during the whole island part - i don't really think it was neccessary to show such graphically bloodthirsty natives.
