Beware of graphic violence and scary scenes

Outstanding film but be warned, there is tons of violence! (Spoilers following) The violent scenes include: a main character getting shot in a river by arrows, drenching the river with blood; Aragorn chopping an orc's head of, splattering his face with blood; Boromir getting slowly shot by arrows, you can hear his painful gasps of breath and the blood dribble from his wounds slowly; Aragorn chops an Uruk's arm off and stabs him, the Uruk pulls the blood stained sword further in him, you can hear the flesh tearing and blood dribbling from his mouth, which Aragorn chops his head off with such force chunks of flesh fly everywhere. Lots of scary scenes, too.

Awesome movie, one of the best ever!

This is an amazing movie, even though it's over three hours long, it's still a movie you can watch again and again. The violence is pushing the limits for a PG-13, and younger kids will find the orcs and Ring Wraiths very frightening. Not for sensitive 11 or 12 year olds, but non sensitive ones will do just fine

    seen all three -excellant

as a mother of 2 daughters and one son , I found this movie violent but fantasy violence to me is completly different than the trash on tv.I would rather my children watch swords and monsters such as the orcs than a drug deal gone bad, or a robbery, or some woman getting raped.my children know that this type of movie is not real .that trash on tv is a fact of life. not to say that reality is not what my children need to know about, but if they can get some entertainment with fantasy viewing rather than the harshness of reality then I am for it. they will face the real world soon enough with all of its ugliness. I like that the lord of the rings is the fight between good and evil.it shows that there is good people ,no matter who they are can be tempted with evil and how as people you have to make choices .some are difficult and there are easy ways out but you must choose the good road.

Violent but Breathtaking! Film with a Great Message!

The Fellowship of the Ring, well, I'd tell you the story, but you can just read the commonsense review. Violence is a big issue in the movie. Characters are shot with arrows, stabbed, skewered, decapitated, banged on the head, or fall into flaming pits. The violence is almost constant, but isn't bloody or gory. The film also has great messages that aren't hard to pick up. One of the scenes never ceases to move me, even now after I've watched it time and time again. Great film for ages 11 or 12 and up!

    An Amazing Movie

This movie series, based on possibly the best fantasy epic trilogy of all time, does a fantastic job of living up to the books. Though, as with all movies based on books, there are details left out, those who read the book will most likely feel that it has been done justice. The action is very well done, but it is intense, and perhaps too much for younger viewers. Of the three movies this is the least violent, and it focuses much more on the adventure than on battles. The beginning and all that takes place in the Shire is very charming, and gives a wonderful contrast to Mordor. The only reference to alcohol is in the Prancing Pony, when Pippen gets a bit tipsy and gives them away. Near the end, it can get frightening, especially when the creature of fire appears in Mordor. There is also a sad death of a character, so if you are watching with children, you should watch out for that. I believe the only disembodyments in the movie are when Aragorn is fighting Lurtz, cutting off his arm and then his head, though there is no blood shown. The orcs can also be rather gruesome. Despite some of this, this is a truly fantastic movie, and is best to show the movie to preteens at youngest. Though the younger ones may be able to handle the violence, they will not be able to understand the incredible story, unless they are mature for their age. An absolute moust see.

    Great beginning to the trilogy

This was a great movie. Beautifully filmed, great acting, and a great start to the trilogy. Not as much violent content as the other two, but I still probably would've given it an R-rating. My whole family loves the entire trilogy, so I would definitely recommend it for anyone. There's no sexual content or modern day cursing, but the violence may make it unsuitable for young children.

    Chock full of good things

The Lord of the Rings is an excellent movie, and book. You will find beloved characters, love, war, destiny, legends, myths, monsters, suspense, power, deceit, mystery... The story plot is great, and the speical effects are wonderful. I watched it when I was a bit too young, so the hideous orcs and chilling Ring-Wraiths terrified me out of my mind. Defineitly not for the faint of heart or the young because of blood and scary monsters and tons of violence. But what makes this movie different is that there is a clear differnce between good and evil; there is love, but it is true love, and not body-related; the characters are lovable and mostly kind, and it will provide many conversations in your family. Excellent!

The beginning of the epitome of modern filmmaking.

Alright, so basically, the Lord of the Rings films are almost universally called some of the best films of all time. I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. If you're looking for a direct book to film translation, however, do not look here. A common misconception about these movies is that since they are excellent, they must follow the books! Right? WRONG. If hardcore fans can see around that, they will find one of the most superior fantasy films ever conjured. Great acting, music, scenery, whatever! Everyone will find something in this movie. I think this film should be okay for kids around 10+. They would be most suited to begin to comprehend the plot and handle the sometimes intense violence (that includes an on-screen beheading, among other things). Overall: Fantastic!

    TWO THUMBS UP!

THIS MOVIE IS AWSOME!! The whole trilogy has good messages in it and is appropriate for ages 11+. The only thing that this movie holds is: Talking about darkness And Heavy Violence But this is a great family movie and in the 3rd LOTR movie it has a great message fo kids.

Every second of this 3 hour movie is perfect.

I cannot describe to you how great this movie is. Sure it has violence and peril, but, come on, it is a Lord of the Rings movie. It is supposed to have all that awesomeness. Also, this movie shows that a good movie does not have to have profanity or sexual content. There is no hint of either here. A must see for tweens on up!

    THE BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!

This movie is definitely the best in the series (overall). Even though Frodo's stupidity can get a little boring, it's absolutely worth your time. Do not take children under 10 to see it because there are a few spots when things jump out. There is also one freaky part when they're at the inn when the ring-wraiths come and you don't know what's happening. But it has great fight scenes. Go see it now!

A Must See for Tweens and Up!

Well first of all, this is an outstanding movie. One of the best I've ever seen. There is no swearing, no sex,(Unless kissing counts)but lots of violence. Men and orce getting shot by arrows, not stuf kids under 9 should see. Beheadings, slashings, most ways of death you would commonly think of from a sword you will see in this minus the blood. 11+ will be fine with this movie, and will truly love it.

    I loved this movie!!!!

this is def one of my fave movie series!!! elijah wood did such a good job!I have to say it is quite violent I watched it when I was 12. I think it depends more on your kids maturity level, whether they should watch it or not. theres no language, sexual scenes, drug use, or bad stuff.now they are quite violent and sometimes there are some frightening moments but beside that J.R.R Tolkien put together a great series.

    Huge insult to the book

This movie was about as unlike the book as you can get. Changes events, cuts large and important parts out, over romanticizes storyline, and ruins the entire point of the book. I was disgusted.

Great, but only for older kids

This is an amazing movie. But it's not for kids! I was only 10 when I first saw this and it scared me a lot! But I'd say it's okay for kids 13 and up. It was very well-done with amazing special effects.

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Woooooooow. Best. Movie. EVER. Don't sacrifice beauty in filmmaking just because you think your kid is too young to see it. Let them watch as soon as they're ready. No sex in this one (a kiss), lots of violence and scary creatures but the fights are intiated by the bad guys most of the time and there's no blood. I watched in fourth grade (after I had read the books when I was 8 or 9) and loved it. I was a bit scared, but it wasn't anything major. You have to know your kid if they're under 11, but if they think they'll be fine let them. After all, my best friend watched it when she was 6, and although she had nightmares, wasn't scarred for life. The cinematography, special effects, and acting in this is just beautiful. It's truly a gem of film and should become as much of a classic as Titanic. By the way, have you ever noticed how the older someone gets the more they underestimate a kid's maturity?

    a movie for everyone!

wow! i love this movie! i love the whole triogly! other than the violence, which is normal, because, duh! they're in a war! this movie is the best!!! perfect for everyone! i atempted to watch it when i was ten, but i got scared!! plus i was confused, and didnt understand the characters or what was happening! but my little brother who is 8, has no problem watching it and he seems to understand and even remember which character is which, better than i can! this movie has just the right amount of adventure, suspence, and romance for anyone! but what i say is, if the first time you try to watch one of these fabulous movies, you get scared or confused, turn it off and come back later!! but dont forget about them!! because this is the best triogly ever made!!! (plus elijah wood is in it!!)...=)
