What do you need besides a miracle?
Lots of action. Action that may be violent, but okay for anyone 12 and up. This is a very similar movie to others made around or before this time, such as "Robocop," and "The Terminator." But it isn't a huge "bang, bang, shoot 'em up" like "Robocop." It is a super awesome movie with a very complex plot, but if your kids are at least old enough to understand it, I highly recommend it for them. Oh, by the way, here's a message form my oldest son - "KIDS CAN WATCH ANYTHING!" Like that's true. :)

Disturbing/gross at times, but overall, I am very surprised that this was rated R.
I really enjoyed this movie. Yes it is rather strange, but I loved it. There is a scene where it shows the people in the farms, and that is intentionally disturbing, Aside from that, there was nothing in this movie that I think was worth and R rating. The violence was a bit more bloody than a PG-13 movie, but I've seen pleanty of movies rated PG-13 that were much more intense than this. (E.g.: The Dark Knight, I am Legend, Beowulf...) No sexuality at all, and the language was more like your typical PG-13 than it is an R. I suggest that this movie is appropriate for all teens 14 and up, and will be loved by any teens that see it.

Classic Sci-Fi is a step above the average movie
The Matrix is one of the few films that you'll find in almost anyones movie library. This is no surprise however, because the Matrix is a step above many sci-fi movies like it. The plot does not falter at any point during the film and the acting is superb. The shootouts are exhilarating and the special effects were ground-breaking. I'd recommend the Matrix to everyone. Action fans will be satisfied by the violence and people looking for something more than just action will also be pleased by the ideas and questions that the Matrix raises. Parents should know that even though the Matrix is rated R, it is on the softer side of the R rating. There are lots of guns and shootouts (although mostly bloodless), a passionate kiss, and a couple of s**ts and damns.

Definitely should have been PG-13
Though this movie is pretty dated, the special effects are top notch. I was actually very surprised I was watching something that wasn't just made! There is quite a lot of violence, and it was particularly gruesome when the bug crawled in the protaganists belly button, but other than that, this movie should have been rated PG-13, because I have seen many PG-13 movies that are worse than this R one.

This movie does have violence thrue the whole film but thatsonly because it is a action film. dont watch itif you cant handle it! i do not reccomend this film for people that arent mature. one of the best movies ever.

My All Time Favorite!
This movie has action for those action fans out there but it also has what most action movies don't have a deep message. This movie makes you ponder life diferently and think about the world and what it is becoming. At the end of the movie don't think about the amazing action sequences, think about what this movie is telling you.

Great movie for bright kids - nice message
A real brain-teaser that should give kids a lot to think about and provide a framework for understanding a lot of college-level concepts. Has a nicer blend of racial diversity than most films with minority actors in major roles and no big discussion of their race. The message that you can question authority, but act morally is a really good one for kids trying to figure out how to disagree with authority figures but still be respectful and upright. Although not graphic, the violence is a bit disturbing. Huge numbers of innocent bystanders are killed with no remorse on the part of the protagonists. That's really the only flaw in the movie, and if you discuss it with your kids, they should be able to see through it.

This movie is extremely good. There is much violence, but some PG-13 movies have worse. Actually, the violence is the only reason this movie was rated R. It is a good movie, though, and I'd recommend it for ages 12 +.

I thought was really good! The matrix was actually the movie that develope all the slow motion stuff and freeze frames. It was only rated R because of the violence also. I think this would be a really good movie for ages 10 and up.

I Loved This Movie. Though It Is Rated R, I Agree Ages 14 & Up Should Be Able To Handle It Just Fine. Though There Are Some Iffy Parts. But The Special Effects Are So Cool. And Now That I've Seen This Film, Most Of The Cool Effects I've Seen In Other Movies Are Mostly Rip-Offs Of This Movie. Now I Think Nothing Is Original Anymore. Sucha classic!
This movie is a classic! You can never beat a gun filled acton movie with a little bit of blood. Amazing story line, throgh out all 3 and i think this is the best!

In new zealand this got rated M (just like PG13). That is what it needs. The volince is not that strong. I think it is just silly for usa to rate it R. It is mostly teens liking and loving this movie.

This is a great fantasy movie with a purpose. FIGHTING SEQUENCES INTENSE, GREAT, AND VERY WELL DONE!

Mind-blowing
This is one of my favorite movies of all time - set in a gritty and enthralling underworld with plenty of action, special effects and an awesome storyline too - what is there not to love? I saw it right after my 13th birthday, and while the violence might bother some (especially the man vs. machine plotline), it wasn't a problem for me or my 11-year-old sister. It has a few "ew, gross!" moments, and a few "oh crap" ones too: it certainly isn't for the faint of heart, and I would definitely recommend watching it a few times before you move on to the sequel. You catch something new every time you watch it. I wouldn't go so far as to say it should be PG-13, but it's something a little less than R - and it raises some very interesting questions about the nature of reality in today's techno-obsessed society. LOVE IT!

Amazing
Very good. Here's the information that you're looking for: Sex: None, unless you count kisses (WHITE) Violence: Tons, most non-graphic, a few cough blood scense, a scene where the hero's mouth melds with his skin, an extended icky series of scenes involving a vat. (OFF) Language: 1 finger, plenty of s--t. Damns. Pretty tame for the amount of shock and surprise in the movie. Social Behavior: Nothing is what it seems. Don't trust anyone. There are a few murders of the helpless. (PAUSE) Drugs/alcohol/etc.: The Oracle smokes. Then again, she can see the future and really "knows" that it won't kill her Should've been rated PG-13 Mature 12+, average 13-14+, squeamish 15+.

I love this movie...
This movie was awesome from start to finish! I don't think that it deserved an R rating, but that's the MPAA for ya... This movie has a lot of intense violence, but I do reccommend it for teens and up.
