I couldn't Sleep Because of the Violence I saw!!!
I only watched the first 10 minutes or so when I saw a horribly violent scene where a man is beaten to death with a wine bottle, then his father is shot in cold blood! Horrible, just horrible! I watch movies to be entertained not haunted!

Not for kids
This is a lovely fantasy, fairy tale, but it certainly isn't for kids. There are some really disturbingly violent and even gorey type scenes. With a lot of subtext that wouldn't be comprehendable to children.

A well-crafted movie - but very disturbng.
This movie is well made - but I didn't enjoy it much! It is very graphically violent and throughout the movie I fear for the little 11 year-old girl (whom we see badly hurt at the beginning of the movie). The fairy-tale fantasy sequences are well done, the effects wonderful, but are extremely frightening on a primal, archetypal level. This is definately not a movie for children to watch. There is a menace throughout in both real and the parallel fantasy worlds.

Caution for Parents
I would not let my teenager see this film without my presence. This was a heavy dark tale with plenty of disturbing images. This fantasy film in my opinion is more suitable for adults and is excellent. This film maker takes you to a very dark tale with a predictable ending but tragic.

Excellent, but phenomenally violent
This is an amazing film. It gives you a strong sense of the history of the Spanish Civil War and the visual effects are stunning. The violence level is very high, however, and we're not talking your average "blow 'em up," explosions galore, silly action flick. I had the impression that this was a movie about a girl's escapist fantasy world. It is perhaps half that. The other half comprises her extremely cruel--a caricature, really--stepfather, who tortures everyone around him. The scenes of violence in this film are extremely graphic and personal, to the point of being simply gratuitous. Torture, sawing-off of limbs, point-blank shooting of innocents; it certainly gets the point across that the Fascists were evil people, but I would argue that it is excessive. Please don't take your kids to this movie. Encourage them to see it when they are 17 or so. Again, it is an excellent film, but it is more violent than you probably are expecting it to be.

A visually stunning movie with a message
If your child is enamoured of Middle Earth and Harry Potter, let them see this political masterpiece with you. Explain what is happening onscreen while watching it on DVD. Don't let them see it alone. The movie requires some understanding of history and an ability to read subtitles. It's definitely not for the very young. But children 11 and older should be able to get something of value from the experience.

Misleading
This movie was very misleading in representing fairy tale status. Not recomended for children, would not hold interest. Very brutal as far as inuendo to violence, does not show most parts. Very boring and the subtitles makes it annoying.

The best movie of the year so far!
El Laberinto del Fauno is the best movie I have seen this year! It's a great war movie (Spanish Civil War), a great fantasy story and a great horror movie all at once!

Intersting movie.
Pan's labyrinth is a visually stunning and moving story about a little girl. 5 out of 5 stars.

Brillant
This was a brillant film. After renting it I went out and bought it. The story is unique and something out of the ordinary, which is rare now a days. This is not a film for children, but is actual an adult fairy tale, but not in the sense of Lady in the Water. Watch it and you won't be disappointed.

som graphic war violance but not heavy stylized violance that is much worse
some disturbing stuff. F-word like twice. like three scenes of graphic war violance.

An adult tale
A sorrowful story of a young girl with a beautiful mind thrown into circumstances, she can not control. The story is violent and not for young children, however it does have a moral and that is something that even though sad gives this film value. It holds you from the very start to the very end.

Disturbing war Violance destorys a PG fantasy
As I said, this is a beatiful PG fantasy destroyed by a couple of Violent sequences. When I saw this in my hometown of Los Angles- I realized that its R rating was overacting! Rated R for graphic violence and some language It should be PG-13: Some Graphic War Violance, Disturbing images, and Brief Strong Language. The F-word is mutter about 3 times, And there are some gritty tourtre scenes. Nothing to bad.

Some Parts Ain't For The Kiddies
Beautiful, amazing, perefect. A master piece of film. Parents should know, before showing children this film, that it has some very very intense war action sequences, that may be disturbing, depending on your child. Besides these war sequences, the movie is at PG level, with one or two four letter f--k and s--t in the subtitles. There is no sex drugs or poor social behavior. If you child knows more about the spanish civil war, this film is A-Okay. **** out of *****

Beatiful
One of the best! parents need to know that there are some war scenes and some blood. There are some scary images like a giant frog and a coupple of four letter words are uttered briefly in subtitles. ON FOR 11+

Must See for anyone with an enquiring mind
Fabulously dark allegorical film that combines the brutal reality of the Spanish Civil War and the escapist, mystical world of a young girl and Pan's Labyrinth. Not for the feignt of heart, this film is pretty graphic in it's representation of the war and the main Captain character's brutal behaviour. The imagery of the childs nether world and cross over to reality are simply stunning. Open your mind and think beyond the obvious imagery and storyline of the film and you'll find an Oscar worthy film without all the Hollywood fluff. The closest I've seen from the domestic US film studios have been Mel Gibson's epics of Apocolypto & Passion of Christ.

I felt ripped off
My main gripe is not that it was a bad movie, but rather that I had no idea that it was all in a foreign language. If I weren't forced to read the subtitles I may have been able to actually see the movie. Although the special effects were good, they were too few and far between. The trailers seen on tv fail to mention it's not in english and portray a much better movie than it really is. I would expect to see this low grade 'B' movie on late night tv, not in theaters.

It was not what i was expecting
I went to see this film with my friends who had got me to see it by telling me that it was a fairy tale, very similar to the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe. What i saw did not even come close. It was scary and extremly violent . Most of the movie is about war not an adult fairy tale. I found it to be slightly disturbing.

- I rate this title off for age 14 and give itMy concerns are:
- Excessive violence
- Inappropriate language
It was great, but NOT ok for ANYONE under 13. in the beging where the general guy smashes the sons face in with a club almost made me puke. Same with the fairy murders. Very complicated, but very good. Kinda hard to follow through all of the subtitles.

Very, very abstract, and very, very excellent.
This movie may look to be a lighthearted fantasy, but it is most certainly not. If you don't mind thinking out of the box a bit, and if you can get past the subtitles and graphic violence, this is the movie for you!

pretty voilent
great movie, but more for people who can deal with having to read subtitles throughout the movie 'cause the whole movie is spoken in spanish, and creepieness. there are alot of scary characters and scenes. I love this movie

A little bit too Violent
This movie was very good. The only thing wrong with it was the violence. A woman slices a man's mouth open, a man's leg is amputated, the Captain beats a man's nose off with a bottle, and quite a few other violent moments. Some of the creatures are disturbing, such as the pale man, but not outright scary. In my mind the Faun was suggesting that he and Ofelia would sometime form a relationship, and have a child. He orders Ofelia to bring her brother to the portal, so he can kill the child. She decides against this, and her choice is rewarded. Overall, this is a good movie, but not appropiate for younger teens.

This is a beautiful film. Not only is it a visual masterpiece, but the story is incredible as well. There are, however, several particularly disturbing scenes that are certainly not for young or squemish eyes. The language is intense throughout, but the film is in spanish so it doesn't have the same effect as it would were it spoken in english. Everyone should see this film (maturity permitting of course) if only to appreciate the power of the film itself.

Wonderful, if you're the right age.
Pan's Labyrinth, although the main character is eleven years old, is not what I would a kid's movie. Even though I am not easily frightened or disturbed by violence, I'll admit that there were some parts I had to partially look away at, I.E The Pale Man and when the farmer's head was smashed against a bottle. The language is not a big deal, and there is no sexual content in this movie. If you can handle a bit of violence and blood, it'd be good to give this movie a shot.
- I rate this title iffy for age 2 and give it
lots of violence but a very good movie
There were a few parts where I sorta felt like looking away because of the violence. Violence is pretty much the only big issue in this film, including a bloody scene involving smashing a bottle on a mans face and cheek getting sliced. The movies goes back and forth from a kid friendly fairy tale feeling to a violent war setting. I would say 14+.

five stars!!
This is one of the best movies I've seen all year! It combines fantasy and a war story together to make a great movie. I didn't want to watch this movie but my brother made me and it turned out I loved it! But it is NOT a kids movie. It is violent, intense, depressing, and at one point scary. There is a lot about torture. I'll admit it was a little over my head. 15+

Brilliant movie
I can safely say, that this is my favorite movie. Violent, but well-bound into the story. I love the darkness of it. It's something different from the normal fairy tale. You get to know the protagonist so well that when the movie ends it makes you happy and sad at the same time. (I tried to avoid any spoilers there -.-) Overall, I give this movie a 5 and I'd say there's nothing in this movie a 13 or 14 year old couldn't handle.

tons of symbolism
Much violence and disturbiing images. A very good movie for people who are just looking for a good movie, i dont reccomend it for most kids my age, maybe 15+.

Great movie! Not good for kids under 13.
This was a great movie! It is a subtitled movie so you do have to read as the movie plays. The only problems with this movie are the violence and the language. There are a few extremely violent scenes. In one scene the Spanish general smashes an innocent farmers nose in with a beer bottle killing him, then he shoots him in the head(which is very gruesome). As I said before the movie is subtitled, but they do use extremely vulgar words on-screen.But this is a great movie adults will enjoy.

Great movie not for children
Although this movie seems like it is geared for kids it is not. There are some very violent scenes, like a a man is shot in the head and you see gore exit from the wound, also a man is repeatedly stabbed and then has his cheek sliced open which you see in plain view.I would say that it is appropriate for teens 15 and up.Its an amazing movie and if you can handle the few scenes of violence I recomend that you see it.

The best movie I've seen in my life!
It's enchanting. I have never seen anything like it. Ofelia (a young girl) is thrown into a situation she cannot control. She's surounded by death, sufering, torture, violence, and war. She does the only thing a child can do - she finds her ascape into a world of imagination. Her world doesn't seem any less cruel, but one thing is different, Ofelia is allowed to hope that the sufering will end and that she (as a lost princess) will return to a land where there is peace. I find this story enchanting. I am almost 15 now, but I still know the comfort of closing my eyes and finding myself in another world. I thought that showing the gift of a childs imagination in a movie was impossible. I was wrong.

The Best Foriegn Laguage film in decades
Beatiful, stunning, great. Parents need to know that there is some war violance, but not to gory or violent, go straight ahead with this one, just fastforward through th opening war sequence, also the s-word is said once in subtitles.

Best movie I've seen in a long time
Brilliant movie. I would say this is suitable for mature 13 year olds and up, but if you are easily disturbed, this is probably not for you. The violence is somewhat graphic, but nothing terrible. There are also a few f-words. This definitely isn't for younger kids, but I think most teens can handle it.

Incredible movie
I loved every part of this movie! The story focuses on a young girl who has recently moved to spain to live with her step-father who is a facist dictator. Her step-father (the Captain as he is called) is a very cruel man. He only married Ofelia's mother to give him a child, and he is constantly torturing his prisoners. This is a very graphicly violent movie. It contains some very up close, hard to watch bloody shootings and stabbings and everything else. It is an amazing, movie and i really recommend it.

An amazingly touching insight into the innocent mind
Pan's labyrinth is nothing short of a modern-day moviemaking masterpiece.
