Parents need to know

Parents nedd to know that this movie, while inoffensive, is highly inaccurate historically. There is some animated violence and drunkenness, but nothing graphic.

Families can talk about what actually happened between the Native Americans and early English settlers. They could research the true story of Pocahontas, and the history of native cultures in this country.

What's the story?

In this sequel, Pocahontas, believing John Smith to have died, goes to London to try to convince the King not to attack her people. On the way she meets another man, also named John, and has various adventures, some dramatic, some silly (her animal friends make the journey with her, and of course they cause amusing but harmless trouble in the old world).

Is it any good?

POCAHONTAS II: JOURNEY TO A NEW WORLD is an enjoyable film, beautifully animated and convincingly performed. But its romantic view of the story of a Native American girl and the English man she conquers through her honesty and beauty is somewhat grating, in light of the realities of what European settlers did to native populations in America.

Without some additional historical information, the film is just a sweet but pointless love story. However, seeing it is a perfect opportunity for children to start to learn the history behind the legend.
