Popular Mechanics for Kids: Rip Roarin Roller Coasters
What’s the Story?
This offering from Popular Mechanics for Kids is about big events -- theme parks, the circus, hockey games, pro wresting. The hosts go behind the scenes and show us how roller coasters work, how to build a very realistic dinosaur, how to work the Jumbotron at a hockey game, and even how to be a circus clown.
Is It Any Good?
The segments are entertaining and informative, and the young hosts are game for anything -- Elisha rides about a dozen different roller coasters, one for over an hour, while Tyler is at the receiving end of some pretty serious wrestling moves. There are funny segments featuring Charlie, who is not a kid but often acts like one. He has practical tips about juggling, preventing motion sickness, and soundproofing a room -- a great skill for any aspiring rock stars in the house.
There are a few slightly gross moments –- in a segment about motion sickness, you have to expect some grossness –- but this is a terrific disc, full of surprises and interesting information. You'll have so much fun, you won't even know you're learning!
