Excellent Magician Thriller from Creator of The Dark Knight!
This is a fantastic but incredibly dark film. No it is not as good as The Dark Knight, but it comes surprisingly close. It is very well made. The performances are astounding. There is a great twist at the end, but I won't spoil. I hate when people spoil for me.

Incredibly Well-Done, but not at all for kids.
To start off, I will say that this movie was BRILLIANTLY made. It really is an artistic masterpiece. It is very unique, looked at by many as being "Very wierd." I personally enjoyed the uniqueness of the movie, as the plot was like nothing I have ever seen before. It is very grim, very dark, and also rather sad. Extremely well acted, you really start to care about the characters. The violence was surprisingly very disturbing in certain scenes, and I would have to say that I think it could/should have been rated R. This is best reserved for teens fourteen and up, and I reccomend it HIGHLY to anyone that age and older who is willing to really use his/her mind while watching a movie, as they will need to do just that to understand what it going on.

a smart, entertaining, dark movie that has great performances
acting - 4/5 cinematography - 4.5/5 art direction - 4.5/5 direction - 4/5 screenplay - 3.5/5 (a couple of plot holes but still a solid screenplay) overall if you like dark, period dramas that puzzle and amaze, this is for you. also the magic is pretty cool, if you like this check out the illusionist

weird but interesting
Certainly did not end as I expected, slightly confusing but fun to try and figure out. The actors were well cast and kept you guessing who was the good one and who was the bad. Fun but dark.

Dark
Virtually unrelieved unhappiness for the characters. The ending was ridiculous and required explanation so my daughter could piece it together with the rest of the film. Tesla invents a duplicator! Yeesh. The lesson is regarding the fruits of ruthless ambition. Not much else.

One of the best movies I've seen this year!!
If you enjoy dark, gothic movies, you will love this one! It was fantastic from start to finish. The acting was superb, and the costumes and sets are Oscar-worthy. The plot is exciting, edge-of-your-seat enteretainment. It is very violent in some parts, and a bird is shown smooshed to death in a cage trap (a scene that made me wince). A man loses his fingers and there is some other gory stuff that I can't reveal without divulging the plot. All in all, this was a brilliant movie I think anyone 13 years and up will love.

scary, dark and not a movie to see if you're sad
I saw this movie when I was 10 and I was wayyy to young but even now it still scares me to think about. There is not a single "light" moment in the movie: people are shot and drowned and it's very disturbing to see his body floating in the water and a man cuts a finger off and birds are killed and crushed as part of a magic trick. All of this violence is all because to magicians are competing against each other and in the end, they are all dead.

this film was grim and weird but the acting was great!!!!!

Once you understand what happened, awesome!
This movie is well written and well acted. The first time I watched it, I was absorbed in the movie. It can be very confusing, but once you get it and say "I can't believe I didn't see that!" you will love it every time you watch it. Excellent job to Scarlett Johansson, Christian Bale, and Hugh Jackman! Parents be aware that things can get gruesome! Please review the violence and keep in mind the discussion topics of suicide, murder, incarceration, and magic. Great movie! Keep 'em comin'!

very intriguing
i loved this movie! i would defiantly take the time to sit down and watch this movie instead of half-way watching it because there are lots of things to pick up on and remember. There isn't much cursing, sexual content, or other questionable material. The two magicians are very competitive towards each other and sabotage each others acts, sometimes resulting in injuries, but it is not much of an issue (that's not what i remembered from the movie) This movie is like old movies i used to watch with my dad that you are still trying to figure out after the movie is over. Even after "the prestige" (when everthing is revealed) you still have to take a minute to wrap your head around everything (sorry...trying not to give everything away) Overall i'd just like to say i would 1000% reccommend this movie to anyone wanting to see and interesting, magical, fantasy movie! Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman are wonderful!

Wow....I was blown away with this movie it was fantastic from the begenning to the twisetd and shocking end....Christopher Nolan delivers again after bringing a great batman begins movie...it is also nice to see a great movie without all the language and sex which is hard to find these days..could have gotten away with a PG rating 10 and up

a must-see especially for christian bale fans
this is the best movie i have ever seen. it was just amazing!! i had to watch it twice to really understand what happened, but this is one of those movies that i could watch over and over and love just as much as the first time i watched it. the acting was brilliant, especially christian bale, who played batman in batman begins, and howl in howl's moving castle. hugh jackman gives a good performance, as do scarlett johansson, and david bowie. easily my favorite movie of ALL time. you HAVE to watch it.

Smartest movie i've seen in a quite a while
Smart movie about two magician friends who become rivals after an accident involving one magician's wife. Constant use of the phrase "watch closely" should be payed attention to, because for those who tend to not be intellectually aware while watching will be like "huh" by the end of it, so watch closely. Violence is minimal, only little sequences of blood, although it's fairly realistic blood for this kind of movie. Language shouldn't be a problem, even though it's pretty bad i didn't even notice it, even though i knew the words were there. Anyone my age should be able to handle it.

Confusing yet Captivating
"The Prestige" is a Victorian-age mystery-action-drama which can be a bit confusing at times. It has a fair amount of violence, so I wouldn't recommend it for children under twelve. Sex was not a problem (nothing more than kissing), drugs and alchohol were iffy (a few scenes where characters are drunk), but the characters' judgement and social behavior are very questionable. Two magicians will do anything to get the other's secrets and they are decietful, back-stabbing, and rather evil at times in order to do so. Overall, "The Prestige" is an amazing movie with an incredible amount of meaty plot action which will make you seem as if you're living in the movie, also. "The Prestige" will, without a doubt, leave its viewers thinking about it and hanging on the end for days.

huh?
This movie is confusing, dull, and very depressing. I had to re watch the ending a bunch of times for me to understand it. There are however some parts that are interesting like how they do their tricks which is what I gave it the one star for. Some parts are violent, and depressing including the midicians killing birds to make a trick work which I thought was sick. 13+

Waste of time.
This movie sucked. I hated it. I give it 0 stars. Obvious fake effects completely ruin the movie. It just was one of the worst movies ever. I was begging my mom to leave the theater after 30 minutes. I hated this freaking movie.

Great movie!
I will admit I have not seen the Illusionist, a very similar looking movie, so I am not compairing this movie to that. The movie is complicated, and the timeline is switched around. I think a lot of kids wouldn't get what's going on, because you really have to pay attention. There are many plot twists. Some of them you see coming, some you don't. Actually, I figured out the main twist, but then I was persuaded to change my mind. This kind of messes with your head. Parts of it are violent, but many of the scenes are cut short before they can get too gross. I thought I would only want to see this once because you know the twist-why watch it again? But it's great to see again because you see all the foreshadowing. If you like the Sixth Sense, or Unbreakable, I highly recommend this.

Not confusing, and not as good as The Illusionist
Of the two movies released in 2006 about magicians in the 19th century, The Illusionist is much better than The Prestige. The Illusionist focused more on constructing a better movie and appealing to people who want to think during the movie. The Prestige, however, is much more centered to Friday night movie-goers who want a more action-oriented film. THe plot for The Prestige began good enough, but as the movie progressed it became less and less realistic in trying to make people who saw the movie that it was smart. But it shows, and all of the "twists" are seen much too easily before they are presented. *Possible Spoilers* The first one was obvious as soon as Jackman's character returned to Europe, and the second one was obvious when they led Bale's character away from Fallon in the jail. *End Spoilers* I really can't agree with any of the below reviewers that this film was either confusing or "the best film ever". It was still good, and I do understand that with a film about magic the viewer is supposed to put aside any doubts about reality, but in this case, it was too visibly obvious that the film tried too hard. If you actually think during this film or are even semi-conscious, than the film won't come off as it did to the viewers below. If you want a decent movie for Friday nights whose plot doesn't have to be very stable or confusing, than The Prestige is right for you. If you are looking for something better, than The Illusionist comes with higher reccommendations (and film accolades, too). However, if you see The Prestige first and think The Illusionist took the twist from The Prestige, just remember that The Illusionist came out many months before.

Wow.
This was one of the best movies I have ever seen. It was a bit confusing the first time I saw it, but after going back to see it a second time, everything made perfect sense. The whole movie was a rollercoaster ride, but every part was played brilliantly. I would only let a child see it if they were 13 or older. It has its disturbing or scary moments, especially when people die, and the overall theme isn't exactly age-appropriate for a kid.

Confusing
This is easily one of the most confusing movies I've ever seen. You'd better be awake the whole time you're watching this or you won't catch a thing. Very good though, if you catch onto it.

THE BEST
I think ONE of the best movie ever. Clean for most

Suitable
I think this movie would be highly suitable for kids 10 and up. It was really good. There is some violence, but not throughout.

Excellent
The Prestige is another great magician flick this year, but unlike the other magician movie The Illusionist this is dark and suspenseful. It's an excellent film with plenty of twists and turns you won't see coming, and it will certainly keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. As far as content goes, this is a pretty intense movie. It is often violent and very dark and disturbing, and so isn't for younger kids. It also will confuse younger kids. Good for anyone 13+

This was a great movie
I went to see it with my boyfriend, it was a little slow at first, but it started to kick off like... 10 minutes after it started.. I think everybody should see this movie

Great Entertainment but a little confusing. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone under 12 years old because of violence and the complicated plot.
