This is my second favorite movie. A lot of people say that they refuse to watch this "senseless torture" without even watching the movie itself. Yes, there is a plot and no, the entire thing is not 1.5 hrs of complete gore.

Great heart pounding horror movie for older audiences!
I think all these movies are very good in suspense and horror. This is NOT a movie for young children. Teenagers have seen this stuff in all movies. The violence is yes over the top but there is very mild to any sexuality involved. Teenagers will love it and even some adults :)

An Excellent Psychological Thriller!
This film is exactly what the posters and DVD covers convey: A violent horror movie not suitable for kids and pre-teens to see. What they don't convey is how the psychological thriller aspect of the movie is more prominat than the graphic and very realistic violence which can become disturbing to some squeemish viewers. Things to look out for are: The implication that a man is having an affair, two sex jokes, and a man runs through a room completely naked and is on screen for no more than 5 seconds. Violence is throughout. The aftermath of horrific torturous murders are seen several times. One realistic gunshot wound, several realistic hand-to-hand battles, and lastly a man cuts off his own foot (the action is off screen, we see him after the exploit is over with). Language is very frequent, mostly the "F" word is used but other cuss words are said was well. It is implied that a victim bought and sold illegal drugs and a main character is revealed to be a smoker. The entire film is unsettling and hard to rewatch, but the inital reaction to seeing the film for the first time will leave the viewer breathless. Bottom line: The film was originally NC-17 and cut down to an R-rating. Ages 16+. 5/5 stars. Enjoy.

AWSOME film
How can CS review one of the best recommended horror film 1 star, Its a very clever film, which is not especially scary, or even too gory, but just makes you think whats going to happen, who did it etc etc. It also shows how people only really appreciate things once suffered, or loss etc, quite obviously. But this film makes you actually appreciate your not in that situation, and makes you happier of the state you are in, bad or worse. etc shame so many do not understand

not for kids
This flick definitely isn't good for kids. Swearing, gore, violence- Saw's got it all. It's fine if you're an adult and like puzzle movies. Leigh Whannell is wonderful as Adam, however, Cary Elwes's acting skills leave a little to be desired (I'd says his skills here to kis skills in, say, Ella Enchanted. You love the character, but you wanna smack him). This is a great first movie for director James Wan. Saw's a fine movie...if you can stomach its contents.

Loved this movie
I seriously loved this movie. It was the first time I saw this type of story line played out. Not for kids and many adults! I think it's just a good gory flick.

Wow
When I had seen SAW II, I had to see SAW. When I finally seen SAW then I thought it was a great movie.

good scary fun, but only for teens and up.
very scary and amazingly well done. the language is coarse. but not as much as could've been. it is realistic language. if you were cutting your leg off, you would yell the same thing. the violence is graphic. blood, blood, and more blood...but just about as much as any other horror movie like scream, the shining, or nightmare on elm street. there is no sex, but mild drug references. so if your teen is mature, and can handle gore, and has seen any other horror movie like the ones i said, they are probably mature enough to see this movie.

Best Horror movie ever
Now, I am normally hate Horror movies because of their weak storylines, and terrible mindless killing. But when I watched this, there was something about the characters that got you more, and more interested in the movie. You couldn't really classify this movie as a horror flick, it's more of a psycological thriller. But... PARENTS BE VERY, VERY WARNED: This movie is probably one of the bloodiest movies ever. The situations that the characters are put in, are terrible to even imagine. I don't care how "Mature" you tween is. They are NOT old enough to see this movie. I assure you they will have very explicit images in their head for a while. However there is no sex in this movie, or any references whatsoever. So If you kid is about 15 or older, Then it's really up to you. But in my opinion, this was a VERY good movie. Not because of the gore, but because the plot, and subplots were well written, smothered in irony, and perfectly syncronized.

Finally, a return to "R" rated Horror movies, I am SO SICK of all these PG-13 so called "horror movies" that have flooded our movieplexes over the past 5-10 years. And then when they come out on DVD they are R or Unrated, these cheap studios are only making PG-13 versions to release in theaters to get the young kids money and butcher an otherwise smart flick for adults. Saw is very, very GOOD!!

Scared the crap out of me!
This is by far the best scary movie I have ever seen. I was checking behind my closet door for a week! Great story line also, especially for a scary movie. The ending is what totally flips your lid. Scariness!

It really depends
I saw this movie and personally love it. Before you are confused with my statement, please understand what I mean. I am a psychology buff and movies that throw me for loops and get me thinking I like. This is however not a movie for Kids. It is very violent and can leave images in the back of the mind. Only a person who can truly tell the difference between reality and fantasy should see this. The movie was very brilliant and shines in the aspect of cinematography and suspense/descions, but is not a family film to watch.

Good For A Mature Teen
First off Saw is notorious for graphic violence, well the first one isn't that bad! Yes it is graphic and may offend and scare some, but you shouldn't watch it if you don't like that kind of stuff. The language is mild compared to a day at a middle school! Besides the underlying message in a dark theme is: Be glad to live.

Its O.K for older folk but lrave your kids out of it!!
Saw is based on shock value and how gorey it can get though i woldent suggest for any little kids to watch i do recammend it for metally stable adults, i say this because if you are mentally unstable the graphic nature might push you over the edge. But honstley i think we have all been de-senseitized by this and really shouldnt suprise you. Truthfully if you watch this with your 9-year old you are an idiot plain and simple.

BEST MOVIE EVER !!!!!!!
This movie and its sequels are the best! The violence was partially disturbing but these movies are still my favorite. The only thing i would warn parents about is the over excessive use of strong language (too many f***s) but this is still a must see horror film even though they get blodier each movie. I cant wait for SAW 6.

Now, this first saw movie is not actually as violent as the others. There is a woman cutting open a mans stomach, but it is not shown. The things that are shown is shooting, punching, and blood. And Lawerance is a good role model by showing that he would do anything to save his family.

A bloody, disgusting but misunderstood psychological thriller.
Everyone always thinks...SAW = "lets see how violent we can make this movie." YES, the movie(s) are VERY violent BUT i wouldn't even call these movies horror movies. They are more like psychological thrillers (at least the first 3 are). The first three saws are amazing! Then you get to the forth one...i still enjoy the later ones but to me they are just a bunch of violence to celebrate halloween. WATCH THE FIRST 3 and if you become a fan then watch the others but expect them to not be as good.

Not good for younger kids at all!
I thought it was a good movie and all but it was extremely violent and has bad language. Not even appropriate for most 15 year olds. Unless your kid really understands that its just a movie then don't let them see any of this movie.

Spoilers
First off this movie was awesome. Now back to buisness. Language wasn't as bad in a middle school. I read the review that Nell minow wrote and I really think she needs to double check her work. THe killer's motive is not everyone deserves to die. It's that everyone who blatantly puts their life on the line and doesn't care if they die deserves to have the chance to rehabilitate themselves by seeing if they truly care because he has no choice whether he lives or dies, due to cancer. The violence was kept to a minimal in this movie. The footcutting scene and the end of each death scene are normally the most violent. It is less violent than 3 and 4, which were the 2 that didn't follow Jigsaw's message. And their is a message behind it. Value your life while you still have it. Becuase others can't control it.

It is a gory movie, but that is made apparent if you read what the movies is about. If you enjoy movies where people are under unrealistic, life threating circumstances, then this is a great movie. It's not scary and you always know what's coming, just quite a bit of blood. : ) I thought it was great :P

Saw Review: in a nutshell
this movie is great with lots of plot twists in the end, that shows you that, the answer to a mystery could be in front of you the whole time. It is a great movie in that sense. Let's get down to business. Sex: I think that in the plot a man is sopposed to be naked in one of the traps... I didn't see anything, nor did my grandmother or brother. There is one thing that made me put this part of my review to an "iffy" setting. There are many innuendo/sex jokes, including one that was made as a joke, but was very explicit. The gag was "I don't care about you, I never have cared about you, for all I care you could just get out of here, go to your house, cover yourself in smooth peanut butter and have a 15 hooker gang-bang!". pretty graphic description. Violence: This film is about violence. It shows what people will do to stay alive. The violence isn't the worst violence in any film; I won't go that far. But the violence in this movie includes: Cutting open a person while they are still alive, barbed wire mutilation, cutting off foot, shotgun shot to the head, slit throat, and many other brutal ways of destroying the human body. This film is not for kids. period. Language: fairly bad. "f*ck" is said almost 30 times, lots of disgusting combinations of curse words. social behavior: The reason that this is an issue, is that this film shows much betrayal in the two main characters. One has to kill the other in order to get out. Tragedy ends up happening in the end. If a concerned parent wants to know what age that there child should watch this at, it should be around... 15-17. This isn't a kids movie. I know that your kid will say "The average teenager my age has seen worse than this!". You know why? Because I used to pull that crap on my parents. Your kids will try to make you feel guilty. Resist it, they'll thank you later. Final Rating: II 16+ "If your kid has a MATURITY LEVEL of a 16-year-old then... it's okay. It's a great movie, if you have a strong stomach... grab some popcorn, have fun. It's what movies are all about. Fun.
