CREEPY!!!!
What a great film! it is probably one of the scariest movies i've ever seen though! alot of people find "The Exorcist" the scariest movie ever, but i found it extremely scary, good film to watch with the family! it does contain a few F-words, and one nude woman walking out of a bathtub (her breasts, buttocks, belly button, pubic hair, and vagina are visible during this scene). but other than that scene this film is really really really spooky, and might give your children nightmares!

Creepfest has some very Gross Moments.
This is a classic film; but a horror film nonetheless. I thought Jack Nicholson's preformance was quite good as the psychotic father. Parents: watch out for lady in bathtub (yuck) and the incredibly wierd "bear" scene (kids might not get it)! This is a very creepy film, but compared to today's horrors, it's actually not too bad. The only reason I give it 17+ is because of that freakin' gross lady in the bathtub!

BRILLIANT!!!!
This movie is perfect for anyone!!! Although a little gory and graphic, this film can teach us much about how to deal with many different family problems. It also addresses a serious disease within the film. Cabin Fever. Cabin fever is not a joke and it can happen to ANY hard working person. This movie is perfect for anyone of any age.

Good for tweens, but mature content is present, so be careful!
The violence isn't disturbing, but only because of quantity. There is also a very scary sex scene where a crazy woman is naked, and yes her vagina is showing. You should just watch it edited if it concerns you. An amazing thriller, classic horror, and creepy little boy movie. you must much.

Okay, this movie is not an allout gorefest, but there are some bloody scenes (i.e. Blood literally flooding an entire room, disturbing images, a guyt gets chopped in bthe stomach with an axe) Warning: also has a very graphic scene of full nudity. Also has some language.

Great movie for the adult horror-fans.
A Very good movie. adapted from Stephen King's novel under the same name. A big OFF or kids because the it is very profane. It has bad influences such as the main character is an insane recovering alcoholic whos wants to murder his family, full-frontal nudity of a old woman in a bathtub, intense language, verbal abuse, graphic scenes (a lot of blood and axe murders, etc.), alcohol and cigarette use. I first watched it when I was 11 at my grandpa's house and I loved it ever since, great movie for adult-horror fans.

Not Good For Young Viewers, but an Amazing Movie.
I found this a positively amazing movie. However, sensitive or easily scared viwers should steer clear. My older friend was terrified by this movie, but when I first watched it, aged 11, I was amazed by it.

I'm twelve, and this is my all time favourite movie. However, anyone who is easily scared should stay clear of this movie. Personally, I didn't find it at all scary, however, my older friend was terrified by it, so I'd steer clear if you're younger than fourteen.

Will scare the sh-t out of kids 16 and under. Description and scenes of graphic violence, Full female nudity, and very strong language. Nowhere near as explicit as the book. Extremely good book and movie.

I love it...so funny!
If you watch it on tv, its not bad AT ALL.. ya, they do say some language, but everybody heres that. and yo onky see blood for like 2 seconds, and it looks fakey. i have seen it so many times i think its funny! its not scary. i think its great though!

Amazing? Yes. Scary? No.
I love this movie. It's probably one of my favorites. Nicholson portrays the gradual insanity of Jack Torrance brilliantly. The plot and political subliminal messages are amazing. However, I don't see how this is inappropriate for under-16s. Yes, there is a river of blood, yes, we do see two bloodied bodies for five seconds, yes, Torrance does kill someone. The nude "rotting" woman is blurred out in the TV version, though it is clear that Torrance is sexually attracted to her (in beautiful form). Let's face it: in this day and age, kids are used to minor (yes, minor) to medium violence and by grade 6. Also, Torrance says "hell" and "damn" a few times. How the heck is that strong language? Poltergeist is worse than that, and its' language rating is Medium. Oh well. Amazing movie. Amazing actors.

i was so scared but i admit it was awesome!!!!!
very bloody and gory but the actors in it were awesome! laungauge was horrific!it really freaked me out about the whole red rum thing!the scariest part i think was was when blood was pouring down the elavator and when the dad was chasing danny around in the maze OMG!!!!!!!

The best!
I love this movie. I watched it on TV a couple days ago so i didnt see the first 30 min. It does have a nude old lady but when i watched it, they blurred that out. The scarriest part for me was seeing the man in a bear suit next to the guy. I dont know why, that image just scared me!! What i like about this movie is that its not some average horror movie with things popping out every where. In the end this movie was great and i recommend it to anyone who can handle blood and scary images.

Fantastic,but not scary
This is one of da bestest movies I've seen, but I dont understand why everyone says that It's ''very scary''... For example,da scene in the bathroom of da room 237... the sexy ladie that turns into an old woman... That's not scary anymore... It's hilarious!... The scene when Wendy is in the bathroom ad Jack breaks da door with a hatchet,THIS ONE is disturbing :S or when Wendy slices Jack's hand :S But,this movie isn't scary,just...disturbing sometimes ;) And highly recommended!

The shining is extremely scary but leave the kids at home
Now I agree the sex, violence, and profanity were very mild for an R rated film. But seriously all three of those categories are still issues. Now the nudity. It's very brief. In one scene you see portraits of nude women and in one scene you see full frontal nudity. Now the profanity isn't that bad. There's only 10 f words, and some anatomical and scatological terms. Trust me the language isn't that bad. Now the violence is really the only thing to be concerned about. A guy chops down doors with an axe, a guy stabs an axe in a guys' chest, a man in a bear suit and a guy are seen near the bed (Note: This applies for nudity/sexual content and scariness), a guy gets his hand cut by a knife, and more. Overall 'The shining' is really mild for an R considering now-a-days were an R is like NC-17. But it's not something that should be for kids anyway.

Know Your Child
In a sentence, Stanley Kubrick's The Shining is a horror masterpiece. However, I believe CSM overreacted with their content review. The nudity is visible and prolonged, but, for a teen my age and above, it's nothing new. The language is also very "been there, done that" for many teens, with f-words in the low double-digits. The violence is brief and intense, but the scariest parts of this film is watching a man descend into madness. Many scenes are tense and may be quite frightening to younger teens. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone under the age of 14, and a dose of maturity may be necessary. You will enjoy!

my favorite movie (besides the Italian Job)
this movie was absolutely fantastic. I recommend it for people who like physcological thrillers. this movie isn't scary because It has no things that pop out or gore, its scary because you watch a guy go crazy in a freaky possessed hotel. I recommend it for mature thirteen year olds and up. a Must SEE!!!
