    Outstanding, Original, and Oscar-Worthy!

This is an excellent, totally-original film. I loved it! I am a big fan of fantasy, and this is a masterpiece among fantasy films. The cast is great, including a surprising twist from Robeert DeNiro's characrter (trust me, you'll laugh yourself silly). And for those who need action to keep their interest, there are some cool fantasy action seuqences, especially the climax. This is a funny, touching, somewhat dark fantasy adventure with a solid opening, an intense, well-paced middle, and a wonderful ending. Magnificent!

Great for the whole family, young to old.

Characters are killed throughout, but in a tongue-in-cheek way. Generally they remain in the story as wounded ghosts, representative of their means of death (e.g. flattened side of face from a fall to death) which is actually funny, and in one aspect assuring to children that they really aren't dead, this was just for fun. the film has lots of talent and very high production values, very enjoyable for the whole family, which is hard to find these days. No more disturbing than any other fairy tale, my 8 year old enjoyed it, highly recommended.

Creative, Imaginative, and Not What You Expect

I decided not to watch this movie in the theaters, due to bad film adverts. But I did watch it on Showtime, and I love it! The story, about how a boy becomes a man on the other side of a mysterious wall, shows how courage, imagination, and a little luck will go a long way. The movie also contains messages of self-acceptance and true love. What stands out the most is the amazing actors and actresses. Everyone becomes so believable, that it's hard to think of them as actors as you watch the movie. I recommend this movie to parents, as well as teenagers.

    Extremely creative

I would have to say that this is the most interesting and creatice movie I have ever seen. I really, really enjoyed it. I thought it was going to be a dumb romance, but it wasn't. There is really not all that much romance, and what there is is made up for by the great plot. I laughed histerically at Robert DeNiro, and Michelle Pfieffer was great, she did a wonderful job. The killing of animals to tell the future was a bit gross, and the violence was actually quite scary at times, so it's a definite 12 and up movie. This is an extremely enjoyable movie, and great to watch with your kids.

    Oh Come On...

Yes, there's a bit of magic and playful--note that, playful--violence, but overall a very good movie for children 9 and up. It teaches good morals about how to handle the world and what should be important.

    Wonderful Grownup fairy tale

This was a wonderful movie, but it's really a grown ups fairy tale. I put it in league with the Labyrinth or Legend. It is beautiful, intellegent, creative, and magical. There is some violence. The killing of animals to see the future for instance is a bit gross, you don't see it, but you know it's happening. Overall it's great, but more for the older child and adults.

    not really for a christian

I thought that the story line was good with the fantasy and all but unfortunally the voodo magic and witchcraft was too much in same scene I could almost see the devil.A lot of people talking about Harry Potter ,in my opinion these movie is even worst than Harry Potter.Fantasy does not need to include de devil.Like Water Horse great family movie and it was a fantasy .

    PERFECT

This film offerd me a breath of fresh air. I am happy to see that others are interested in offering something of REAL content for our children so as to offer a platform of dialog beyond the boring "Status Quo." Thanks to all who participated in the creation of this remarkable film...

    It was great.

This movie, IMHO was great and possibly a movie I will have my children watch when they are old enough. I really don't like fantasy movies (except HP) and this one really kept me on my toes. I laughed at parts, and it was very suspenseful at times as well. Under 13 though, definitely should have a parent present just to explain a few things along the way (i.e Robert De Niro dressing up like a woman). All in all, good movie.

Probably one of the most entertaining movies of the last few years!

This was a GREAT movie. Definitely not for younger children (it is PG-13 after all). My husband and I saw it on a date and absolutely loved it. This is perfect for fantasy and fairy tale lovers. The characters and story line were really fun, the actors were amazing, and the music was great. Even though there is some fantasy violence, it is handled really well. The "murders" are actually quite funny, partially because the victims show up as ghosts and are still very much a part of the movie (takes the seriousness out of the murders and makes them more fantasy like). It is a great romance and has some fun humor- overall a very entertaining movie.

Fantastic fantasy adventure!! A little too violent for kids.

I LOVED this movie! My mother, who is 60, and rarely impressed by any movie, saw it twice in two days. I was very surprised by the violence and was glad that my sister, mother, and I screened it before inviting the kids. This is one that I may rent for my older children, but not for the big screen. The murders are presented in a humorous way, but murder is not funny in real life, and kids need to be old enough to understand that. The throat slitting scene was played down a bit with the blood being blue. Not seeing red blood kept it from being gorey, and reminded us that this is only fantasy. There is some cross dressing that was hilarous, but I know would have sparked lots of questions from my nephew, which we should be prepared to discuss. The adventure was fun and the lead characters wonderful and honest.

    It was amazing!

This movie was simply amazing. The actors did wonderful jobs portraying their characters. There is a little innuendo in this movie. Also, the violence factor is kind of big for little kids. People lose their heads, have their throats slit...things like that. But, the language is good and it's just a fun movie.

    Meh.

I mean, there's really nothing to keep me from liking this movie. It's not especially violent. It's not overtly sexual. The language is practically nonexistent. The premise is interesting. The acting (surprisingly) isn't all that bad. The writing isn't great but it's not enough to turn a person away from it. It's really just kind of a mediocre movie for me. It's alright when you've got an hour and a half to kill but, otherwise, skip this one.

Fun movie for the whole family

I loved to movie. It was kinda confusing but it all came togeter at the end. There is a part where Captain Shakespere is dancing in his room looking like a girl so that's basicly saying that he's a crossdresser.Depend on what a child hears at school or for a parent, whoever is their parent might need to explain to them.Unless they don't ask.All in all it was a great movie.

    Pretty Good...

This was a pretty good movie, particularly for fantasy lovers, such as myself. There was a little bit of sexual reference and a few swear words, plus some violence, so I recommend for ages 13+. Really good, though.

this is the best movie ever, but I think that it is labeled as too scary for kids 11 years old and older, but I'm here to tell you it's not scary at all my nine year old sister and 5 year old yes I said 5 year old brother could watch it and they both loved it. My favorite part is when captain Shakespeare dances around in the pink dress it is absolutely hilarious. this movie is not only tear-jerking it is also laugh-out-loud funny Once again... I loved it

    It was good....

This movie was good if you like all the fantasy and mystical stuff. if you don't like that then you would not like this movie at all. I liked it but only until i saw it for the second time. The first time i saw it i had mixed emotions about it i thought it was weird then i thought it was great so i mean it can be confusing the first time you see it but other than that its really good. I thought that Michelle Pfiefer did phenomenal as well as Claire Danes. It was very creative and whoever had imagined this whole story has a superb imagination!!! however, i don't recommend this for younger children because it may have some scary images that could scare them alot but other than that its fine. There is hardly anything sexual but there is a part where two people make love but you don't actually see it. i think that this is a good adventure movie and it definitely is appropriate for people my age!!! :)

    Utterly amazing!!! (for teenagers)

I think that this is a great movie for kids thirteen or older. It's very funny if you're actually old enough to get some of the jokes. I didn't rate it as high on violence as other people, probably because most things aren't all that violent compared to Saving Private Ryan, and I've never seen the things that are.

This fun fantasy is not for kids, but very enjoyable for teens and up...

Let me first say that this great movie is much more violent and sexual than I expected. Two characters do the dirty thing before getting married, and there is alot of blood. Other than that and the fact they made Robert De Niro gay, this was a great movie and it's definitely worth a watch or two if you like fantasies.

    What a surprise!

This movie was so much better than I thought it would be! From the cheesy trailer and lame title (Stardust? That name doesn't even fit the movie at all), I thought this would be a big flop - but to my surprise I ended up loving it. It was alot darker and funnier than what I expected, and takes many surprising and creative turns to keep you highly entertained. The ending's a bit on the hokey side, but besides that, I loved this flick - definitely recommended.
