Some would say this movie was just too much for children!!! I disagree. Superman Returns was just what comic fans needed. It had action, adventure, romance, tragedy, and most important of all, one hell of a villian. As a matter of fact the only thing this version was missing is a cameo from a past Superman actor/actress. As for having a child, smoking, drinking and violence, this was the least amount of the afore mentioned that you can get away with these days and still draw a crowd. Bottom line, Superman returns rocked and I can't wait for the next installment!!!!!!

Promising
This was not as good as the original superman, but altogether good quality when it came to hero vs vilian, good for instilling honor, loyalty and trust. Good special effects. Great as far as family social setting, romance, action and perserverance.

A great social commentary wrapped up in a comicbook movie.
A lot of reviews comment on the lack of screen time for the title character. It's true. Superman is shown onscreen for maybe 30 minutes total of a 2 hr. movie. The fact Superman must sort out his place in a changing world (including the role of fatherhood) makes it a touching story. Bosworth fails at being Lois, Routh is an eerie match to Christopher Reeves, Kevin Spacey NAILS the egotistical maniac Lex Luthor, however they got the UGLIEST kid for Lois' son. The boy needs a haircut, and when you look into his eyes, he looked doped up.

Disappointment
I was very disappointed with this disjointed LONG Superman. I was very confused through the first hour and becoming quickly bored. It picked up the pace but still didn't leave me satisfied. The movie was filmed very dark (hard to see a lot of what was going on)and the plot was thin. Brandon Routh did great as Clark Kent especially, really reminded me of Christopher Reeve. Other than that, pretty bad flick.

The wait was worth it!
This movie had it all... I laughed, cried, and cheered! It certainly will require some followup conversation with your child of any age. Despite his physical strength he is vunerable but he didn't give a second thought to his life when trying to save others. He can't force us to end world hunger and war but he can give us an example of unselfishness and using your talents and abilities for the good of all. And maybe that's what a hero is after all...

Rediculous Moral Priority
This film teaches children a narrow view of morality, justice, suffering, and mankinds capacity for change. Although Superman possesses omniscence (he is aware of trouble in the middle east--a scene has him watching a crying middle-eastern woman) he decides to protect banks. The film borrows Christian mythology "I hear them crying for a savoir" but presents a lazer eyed savior who solves first-world problems with second rate means. Superman shows might, no skill in reasoning or compassion. Not an appropriate hero for learning children.

Amazing. Superman is back!
You owe it to yourself to see this. Superman Returns was just amazing. It was just pure greatness. Just watch out for one violent part. Everything else is just fine for kids.

A little long for younger ones...
I took my 6 and 4 year superhero junkies and they liked it (not loved). It was a little long for them because there is a good bit time between action scenes. For the adults, I found it had a good mix of the following: an interesting story, amazing action sequences, and a happy ending. The only scene that was "iffy" was a scene that Lex beats up and stabs Superman several times. No blood is shown but it could be upsetting for a younger child. I found the violence was much worse in the previews before the movie than in the entire Superman movie. I was shocked that a theatre would show previews for "Lady in the Water" and "Ghost Rider" then show a preview for "Ant Bully".

Awesome movie...
Well, where to begin?!?! I love this move and it kept me on the edge of my seat. I even yelled at the screen a few times. It had action, romance, and a bit of mystery. I thought it was great enough to see it again and I might see one more time. If you want a movie that has it all, see this one!

I felt stressed after watching this movie...
The movie started out promising. Then it took a turn for the worse. Lots of action, and lots of film time watching him fly around aimlessly. The movie could have been only two hours instead of two and a half if they had just cut a lot of his aimless flying. SPOILER WARNING***It is clearly implied that the child is Superman's (the kid manages to shove a grand piano up some stairs and across the room to kill an evil goon).*** Lots of action, and far too much beating up of Superman. They didn't need to make it THAT visual and long... *shiver*. Ugly. Kevin Spacey makes Lex Luther (sp?) more evil than previous. In the other renditions, Lex Luther is insane, and kind of humorous. In this, he's sane, but just bent on taking over the world in a Napoleon-esque kind of way. Kate Bosworth (Lois Lane) was good in this movie, even though you feel sorry for Richard (her fiancé in the movie) because it is blatantly obvious that she is still in love with Superman and she is engaged to him (Richard). It all turns out in the end. There is a flash of a "TIME" logo, and the "Daily Planet" seems to have symbols everywhere. Superman still stands for truth and justice, though he is less idealistic then before, meaning that he sees the world more realistically. Be glad that Dana Reeves died before she saw this, because it only would have been a bad reminder of how her husband was. He looks EXTREMELY similar to Chris Reeves. *shiver*

Mediocre Superhero Film That Is Okay for kids 8 and over
This superhero movie was not as good as I expected it too be much better. The contant is acceptable for children 8 and under and should have been rated PG. Not much too worry about, except for a few sequences of violence, and a few minor curse words that wasn't much. Stick with "X-Men: The Last Stand" if you are searching for a superhero film to see, but if you see this it is ok for kids 8 and up.

I don't know!
I thought the movie was ok. But me being obsessed w/ smallville. It was sort of hard 4 me to get my mind off smallville. This probably wuz an awesome movie, but I missed Tom Welling and the other actors in Smallville. So smallville got kinda ripped off, but hey go see the movie unless like me your obsessed w/ smallville and miss the actors!!! Sorry if I said smallville too much!!lol

Absolutely spectacular-- perhaps better than the Reeve movies
I want to get the movie's downsides out of the way first-- the costume can be kind of distracting sometimes. Now for the good things. Probably the thing I'm most grateful for was the way Spacey portrayed Lex. Rather than the comical Luthor from the '79 "Superman", Spacey plays Lex like the real villian he should be, with a slight feeling that he's crazy, but not to the point of malice or comic either. Singer did a good job in giving Routh the part of Superman, as he greatly reminds of the late Christopher Reeve. Everyone else does a good job with their roles, and the whole new Kryptonian continent idea was well done. I'm glad to see that Singer didn;t decide to try and make Superman as human as other comice book characters that have appeared in movies, because he isn't. To give him flaws would have been to betray the main basis of superman, so instead adding domestic problems rather than flaws was a brilliant and safe move on Singer's part. All that is really left to say is to go see this movie (that and start watching "Smallville").
