    My concerns are:
    • Inappropriate sexual content
    • Inappropriate language
    • Excessive consumerism

    Good movie for older kids

We watched this movie with our 8 and 10 year olds because we remembered it as a fun movie. We were shocked by the language - my kids learned lots of new words. It is a great movie that unfortunately has inappropriate language and sexual inuendos (going away with your girlfriend for the weekend and lying to your parents about it?) I should have waited until my kids were a little older to show them this movie.

    My concerns are:
    • Inappropriate language

Lots of language that I wasn't expecting after reading the CS media review. D--m and s--t lots of times, plus JC, GD. Wish I would have known about this.

    My concerns are:
    • Inappropriate language

Good movie but lots of swearing compared to kid movies

This was a good movie but concepts a little over my kids heads sometimes (ages 5 &7) with the whole time travelling concept. Lots of swearing compared to kid movies.

  4. I rate this title off for age 11 and give it 3.0
    My concerns are:
    • Inappropriate language

Bad writers use bad language in what could've been a good flick!

It could have been a really good movie -- too much unneeded bad language. Every single swear word there is was used prominently in the movie. What a waste.

    My concerns are:
    • Excessive violence
    • Inappropriate sexual content
    • Inappropriate language
    • Drinking, smoking, or drug use

Your ratings were misleading. As to sexual content, there were scenes involving a boy looking through binoculars at a girl while she was undressing in her room!, a scene where a boy was about to sexually assault a girl in a car and numerous allusions to sex. This should have rated at least a 3 on your little icons. The violence that was most disturbing involved a boy shoving the girl (hard) who he had attempted to sexually assault. That is not "flirting and kissing". The language was also much worse than your review lead me to believe.

    My concerns are:
    • Inappropriate language

You should think twice before letting young kids view this

After reading that there were "bits of language," I was shocked at how often the language was objectionable. They used the Lord's name in vain frequently, and they used other profanities quite regularly throughout the movie. It was much worse than I had anticipated.

    My concerns are:

Advertising and violence should not dissuage

The worst thing in the Back to the Future movies is all of the really obvious product placement. There's also a little violence when Doc gets shot in the chest and Marty gets shot at in the 1950s. Generally though, it's a very entertaining movie and one of my favorites. I think it's fine for youngish kids.

    PG-13, definitely

I agree whole-heartedly with other recent reviewers who were caught off-guard by the language, violence and adult themes. This was one of my favorite movies when it was released in the 80's. I was cringing as I watched it with my 6 and 9 year-olds... and my disapproving wife! We had to turn it off.

    Parent Guidance DEFINITELY suggested!

Firstly - this movie is a childhood favorite of mine. I thought my kids might enjoy it. WARNING: I do not agree at all with the Common Sense review of this movie. Be wary of movies that came out before the PG-13 rating. This movie definitely would have gotten one due to the language alone. An occasional light swear word I can deal with, but I counted at least half a dozen "S" words, the Lord's name was taken in vain throughout, not to mention the frequent use of "b4st4rd" and "son-of-a-b". I watched with my 12 year old daughter and just cringed because I'd forgotten how loose the language is! Other parental items to note: the main character (who is 17) and his girlfriend plan to sneak away together on a camping trip, which the main character's parents approve of at the end. The main character also swears and drinks. PLEASE do yourself a favor and re-watch this movie before you allow your children to watch. NOT for kids under 13!

    Hilarious and Engrossing yet Questionable...

BACK TO THE FUTURE was the smash hit of 1985. It is still well known today with audiences both young and old. It's a classic. But the content is very questionable. The cursing is constant. Though your kids probably hear the same amount in school, you might want to think about them hearing it in the living room. "bast**d", "bit*h", "sh*t", "da*n", and "a*s" are said countless times. Also questionable is the mild suggestive innuendo and a mild attempted rape (offsecreen and unsuccessful). A character is briefly shot by bullets, (not graphic, and the man lives). The brilliant climax might be too tense for youngsters. This movie is a classic. It's funny, adventurous, weird, and engrossing. I love it and your kids will probably love it. Highly reccommended.

    My Favorite

The Back Too Future saga was my favorite as a kid and still is today as an adult. A must see for the whole family. A great comedy-sci-fi movie with great known actors.

    Fun for older kids

I was surprized with the amount of bad language in the movie. It was non-stop. Also I was uncomfortable watching with my 11 year old daughter during the scene in which Biff is forcing himself on Michael J. Fox's mother in the car. Maybe it went over her head - I'm not sure. Other than those two things, the movie is really fun and it is so good to see Michael J. Fox at his physical best. I think this movie is better for 12 and up.

    Warning if language is important

Although they don't drop the f-bomb, there is near constant swearing. From the humorous "Damn, where is that boy. Damn! Damn Damn." To several bastards, a car full of "S---" (prior to slaming into a manure truck), you're going to see some serious shit (prior to going 88 miles per hour), to "Not where the hell is it - when the hell is it" to "Do you think I should swear? Yes, damnit, George, swear" Great movie, but I just don't understand how this was rated "Not an issue" under language for eight-year-olds. The reliability of this site is in question.

Interesting/thought-provoking movie about time travel. Good for ages 10+, younger kids won't undestand it anyway. Some swearing, some violence, and some sexuality. Part III is th best one.

Shocked from a family man director like Spielberg

The story is great, the acting is enjoyable -but the foul language and sexual attack scene in the car was difficult to explain to my daughters. This film introduced my kids to the words: sh--, dam, Goddammit, bastard, and son-of-bitch -sorry, but these do not clasify as "mild lauguage" words to me. Have the mute button in hand if you decide to rent it with your kids.

amzing movie. dont worry about the swearing.

please, oh please calm down about the language. just because there is some swearing does not mean it is a bad movie. plus your kids can live with it. now just stop whining and enjoy the movie for what it is. its genius.

They Had PG-13 Back In 1985...So Why Wasn't It Rated PG-13? I Wonder...

"Son of a b*tch", "d*mn", "h*ll", "sh*t", and "*ss" are used repeatedly throughout. Plus there are tons of explosions.

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! But there is a gunhail part at the beginning and some kissy/violent parts at the end. WAY to much swearing, though, whenever we see a movie my brother compares how many cuss words to how many cuss words are in Back to the Future.

Back to the Future is an excellent film, but definitely not okay for 8+. There are plenty of uses of "s--t" "son of a b----", etc., and some innuendo. However, it is still amazing and hilarious.

    cool!

This movie, though bogged down with bad advertising/cover, is actually pretty good! Even though the plot may seem boring, it is original and the movie has very good acting. You could watch this over and over, and the cliffhanger ending succeeds at luring you in to seeing the next one. And the next one. And the next and the next and the next... Ok just kidding, there are only three, which is a number good enough to keep an audience and not get boring and repetitive. Lots of bad words. 8+

    Conscience hurt a little...

This was a very good movie. The only things I didn't like about it (therefore giving it a four-star rating), was that there were several (I'm talking 10-15, counting the Lord's name taken in vain) swear words, plus a spot in a car where a boy is forcing himself on a girl. Also a boy says a crude phrase twice. One bully calls people "butthead" three times.

    All-right

It was a very good movie in terms of plotline and story. But kids might find it weird that Marty's mom falls in love with Marty and makes moves on him. Other than that, it's pretty good.

I thought this movie was okay, but considering it's reputation as a classic, I was expecting a bit more. Sure, it was an entertaining film, but I feel like I've seen many better time traveling films.
