After seeing it, I'm taking my 11 year old son.
Straight up "Popcorn Movie" shenanigans!
Another retelling of the basic storyline of Independence Day without the slapstick humor. Sadly Aaron Eckhart doesn't bring as much as I had hoped in his performance but her certainly adds some credibility to the film.
There is violence and language but 10+ kids are capable of know that this is movie magic and not to use the foul language.

an entertaining action thriller.
For years, there have been documented cases of UFO sightings around the world - Buenos Aires, Seoul, France, Germany, China. But in 2011, what were once just sightings will become a terrifying reality when Earth is attacked by unknown forces. As people everywhere watch the world's great cities fall, Los Angeles becomes the last stand for mankind in a battle no one expected. It's up to a Marine staff sergeant (Aaron Eckhart) and his new platoon to draw a line in the sand as they take on an enemy unlike any they've ever encountered before.
well this movie was one of those movies you wait to watch them just for their action and visual offerings. after The Green Hornet this is the action movie of this year but very dramatic. this movie got bad reviews from critics. well i saw this movie and i think it wasn't so bad, i had a good time time watching it of course. i saw people saying that it is long and boring and has bad action and visual effects, some reviewers and critics only. but then these people say these things about every movie. but i would say that critics wen't so much far. very bad reviews. i will call it an above average flick.
well you can't really talk about the acting performances in this movie of course but i think Aaron Eckhart was well cast, the rest of the cast were ok. Direction was well ok. screenplay was well written i did not saw any or should i say much problems or faults in this movie i don't know why so much negativity about this movie, on what bases? because i didn't see any or much!
this movie is inspired by all those war movies, while watching this movie i felt like watching a really hardcore serious war movie. it has the shacky camera feeling to it to make it more realistic which it does. editing is kind of ok could have been better. sound effects are likeable. visual effects are something which it was a bit of bad i would say, felt like a B grade movie but better then those over the top bluish Skyline aliens. it is a combination of District 9 and any war movie. but not better than District 9.
the biggest good thing about this movie was the non stop action in it, the movie never gets boring or dull with constant thrill and action scenes in it. story can be called cliched ofcourse but very engaging and something unique about it. this alien based movie i would say was kind of different from others. i had a good time watching it, a very big action movie fan will so love it.

I took my 9 yr old to see it because she requested it. I think she also wanted to see it because her dads in the military & she saw the military in it =) . I looked at reviews for children & the most concerned was the violence. If theres sexuality & a lot of bad language I wont take her to those movies. Violence is iffy. Shes seen "blow em up" movies so I wasnt too concerned with battle scenes. Overall the movie had good messages & teamwork was portrayed. The language wasnt as prevalent as I thought...& we dont swear in our home...so it didnt bother me tooo much. She did get a little bored at times so I think 10 yrs & up is better.

Battle: Los Angeles is a good movie to watch but only for your older teens many of your young kids will want to stay clear of this movie because of the war violence and destruction and parents you need to know that Battle: Los Angeles has a lot of intense war violence and strong language used there is a little positive message in this movie however it's about the value of teamwork and thinking positively and the role model is that The soldiers show bravery and positive thinking, and they work together well, solving problems and eventually triumphing over the odds Nantz is haunted by past battles and terrible mistakes he made his men don't trust him, but he demonstrates admirable heroism He shows inclusiveness and empathy toward the story's civilians.

I think maybe I am the only adult in the U.S. who not only truly enjoyed this movie, but thinks it is valuable. Why? Like a (Grimm) fairytale, it helps us (tweens, teens, adults) explore our fears. The characters are complicated (I know! The critics hated it) but are bound to duty. Maybe the reason I liked it best is that there is absolutely no cynicism in the movie. It is about good people doing good for others. (And yes, tons of violence, sad losses, etc.) It also, and I am a pacifist but also someone who has taught respect for the military to my kids from their earliest days, made me appreciate the U.S. Marines in a new way. That they - like these fictional Marines, must show up, be brave, handle things they could never have imagined would happen hit home. I also liked the brainy, strong women in the film. And the good-hearted doctor. I liked the multiracial teamwork (Nigerian doctor, Hector's Dad who acts so courageously, etc.) So. Here I stand, the only person in the U.S.A. who not only enjoyed this movie, but thinks it provides valuable lessons. (Think it ends too suddenly - but perhaps they ended hopefully, thinking it would be followed up by a sequel.)

The Anti-Avatar: Same kind of dumb plot and violence, now with Pro-military, Pro-America message
Yes, I'm serious about the critique of Avatar. It was quite simply a terrible movie, through and through. This movie is pretty much the same as Avatar, except we're the colonized planet, we're definitely not really tall Smurfs, and we have Marines who exhibit honor, bravery, and sacrifice. If Commonsense didn't have PC, left-leaning reviewers, it would give this movie 3 stars, since it had absolutely no problem with going with the crowd and giving Avatar 4 stars.

This movie had a chance to be pretty good. The way it was filmed was suppose to make you feel like you were there, however, it made you not want to be in the theater. It was like it was filmed with a home movie camera with a guy running around trying to keep up. Almost...

Great military role models
This movie was a typical war/invasion movie in many ways. But the part that stood out for me, and made it worth seeing, was the fact the the Marines exemplified honor, bravery and courage despite overwhelming circumstances. They were able to sort out the problems and find creative solutions. Too often the military is portrayed in a negative light or even worse, scoffed at. These men and women deserve our thanks and support. This was not a propaganda movie like the 1940s but told a simple story of survival of people who deserve to be called heroes.

Action packed fun ride, but for the language.
My only objection is the language. OK, we're talking about Marines fighting aliens in a life and death battle, so I see where the language would come into play, but the movie is a wild ride of action and sci-fi and would be loved by boys from 7 and up. The language could have been left out and yongsters would not have noticed. Other than that, this 49 year old kid had a good time.

Definitely better than one lone star
Okay, so I won't let my under 14 year old kids watch this but I really think it deserves better than one star. There is a lot of violence and death in this movie but it is not the kind of movie that glorifies violence like some other action flicks do. This is a war movie. It shows the reality of war. Granted there is little "reality" in this alien invasion. But what I love about this movie is the bravery that is shown, especially in the main character. He does not want to be where he is at but he steps up in the face of fear and guilt and is to me an incredible role model and hero. He is not some big ego macho man who is out to kill for the joy of it. He knows what needs to be done and he does it. The other men respect him (towards the end) and they decide to follow him even when death is almost certain. I am looking forward to the day that my boy can watch this movie and see what it takes to move forward even when the aliens are destroying Los Angeles.

Predictable but not THAT bad.
This movie wasn't a one-star movie. Sure, it was predictable and not all that imaginative but it was entertaining. I watched the whole thing and enjoyed myself. I also didn't find it overly gory which a lot of violent movies are. If you are a fan of alien invasion films I think you could do a lot worse than this one.

Worst Movie Rating Ever by CSM
Look, it is a good movie, don't rob it of that well earned fact. It is fun and entertaining, and even depicts characters self sacrificially striving to go above and beyond the call of duty to do what is right. It is certainly violent, and cursing is an issue, but when you give a movie this good a one star rating, it damages the integrity and honesty that this site is valued for.

Pretty Good Flick but Know Your Kid!
Language and violence are to be expected for a PG-13 alien invasion movie with obvious military undertones. I enjoyed the film....others have not. A lot of the main characters will die, including a young boys father, right in front of him. It is important to know you kids and talk to your kids. If they are sensative to a parents death or just extremely emotional circumstances, you may not want to let them see this one.
