i think the director tries to tell us something, just i don't really know exactly what, but overall i guess it is like a magic spell that even though Anna's husband is dead, maybe there's like a spiritual sole that through the little boy Sean warns her not to marry Joseph. Though, it is quite uncomfortable to watch a little boy and a much older woman fall in love with each other.
