This is a movie we all enjoy, and it is my 6-yr-old's favorite. There is some violence, and some shananigans, but I like the message that you have to get to know a person to really know them. Fun and interesting.
miyazaki's movies for younger children (totoro, ponyo, kiki's delivery service) have been huge favorites and my kids enjoyed this film as well. BUT it was startlingly violent--swarming armies, explosions, gunfire, people falling and almost falling to certain death...my kids both spent large parts of the movie biting their nails and cringing. the beautiful animation and lovely musical score were just not worth all the violence for our family.
Miyazaki has done it again. He has made another masterpiece. It is very good if you are 7 or older. You should see it. It is a little violent. The main character's hair braids are shoot off her head. There are lots of guns but it has a happy ending and the crystal is cool.
i was surprised by how vilont the movie was. Most of hameasakie's films are kid friendly but this one certainly wasnt. There is a lot of shouting, vilonce, peril, and a scene were a grown man almost killed a 10 year old girl on purpose with a gun. but it is a good movie and it is a good movie for all kids ages 10 and up. BUT NOT FOR 9!!!!!!!
This was in the children's section of our local library and when I asked the librarian she said it would be fine for my kids. Boy was she wrong! There was way too much shooting and aggressive behavior like fist fighting. Things are blown up in fiery explosions. Not at all for younger kids.
This movie is very mildly violent. Soooooooooo mildly violent. Or possibly "NO violence" and "Action" instead. There are no phsical damages a lot, but there is a lot of machine guns, rockets, bombs, and that kind of stuff. But 97/100% of the weapons miss their shot, and they dont "show" any people die. They DO show a friendly robot getting blasted, but repaired.
The depicted conflicts are really the only thing in this film that would deter a parent from showing this to their children. But a lot of it is "action", some of it is done with great humor, and more importantly there are consequences. No, the bodies aren't shown... but when a robot is attacked (& killed) it is a surprisingly tender, touching moment. Compared to many other films, even Disney's Beauty and the Beast, the violence in here is less offensive, less frightening. So if your child has seen any Star Wars films, Indiana Jones, etc this is a very acceptable film and a great alternative to most "child action" films.
Interesting beginning then downhill from there. It's violent and bizarre. My 10 yr. old daughter thought it was a waste of time as well- we barely finished it. Never seen original version...
