My kids watch this and love it! It is not too scary, but interesting enough to hold their attention. There may be some concerns about the dynamics between parents and their kids, but it is not something that you can't explain to your children (even my 3 year old understood that their behavior was unacceptable). Great for family movie night!

A bit of a let-down in my opinion-
I have to admit, my daughter (17), son (5), and I, were all a bit disappionted by this version of the Roald Dhal story. The humour was cuttingly sarcastic at points- which of course my little on didn't like or understand, and Willy Wonka was much colder than we had expected, which none of us liked or understood the need for. I suppose it would be a wonderful experiance for anyone who hadn't read the book or watched the earlier movie adaption, but for all our anticipation we found it rather lacking the same amount of sheer joy that we had come to associate with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Watch this with your kids. If they are old enough to read the book, they are old enough to watch the movie. My daughter is a huge Roald Dahl fan and thought the movie was entertaining.

Pleasantly surprised
I am not a fan of Tim Burton or Johnny Dep, and I loved the Gene Wilder version, so I wasn't expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised. The respectful, thoughtful and family supportive characters are both cast in a positive light and rewarded, which is unusual in most family movies these days. The bratty, selfish kids are not celebrated (how refreshing!) and they aren't rewarded for their bad behaviour. Special effects are good. Johnny Depp plays the childish Willy Wonka very well. Does Depp ever play normal characters? I still like the Gene Wilder version better, but this movie was entertaining.

Not as good as the original...
There's really nothing to worry about here for ages 8 or 9 and up. Naughty children, snobbish parents, biting squirrels, and chocolate obssessed Oompa-loopas make up this tired remake. I didn't enjoy it. Some did. It's a pretty cute film to occupy youngsters. There's not anything very bad in it, it's just not good.

Great film, some iffy content.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is the story of Charlie Bucket (Freddie Highmore), a young boy who is chosen - along with bratty kids Augustus Gloop (Philip Wiegratz), Violet Beauregarde (AnnaSophia Robb), Veruca Salt (Julia Winter), and Mike Teavee (Jordan Fry) - to take a tour of Willy Wonka's (Johnny Depp) chocolate factory. At the factory, lots of zany adventures happen, including a girl being tossed down a garbage chute, and a boy being shrunk. Iffy content is as follows. Adults and kids are constantly mean to each other (all with the exception of Charlie and his family). One double-entendre is present ("Don't touch that squirrel's nuts!"), and profanity consists of one use of "hell". No product placement in the film itself, but Wonka candy is real, and kids may want to buy it if they see the movie. We see a brief shot of Mrs. Salt drinking alcohol. Great film, OK for kids 8+.

Not what I expected but still great fun!
Wow, I was dead set against another remake of this one as Gene Wilder was such a great Willy Wonka but I was pleasantly surprised by Johnny Depp. It was definitely it's own version with some weird new ideas and slight variations in the script. Still delightful and fun for kids and adults alike!

fun!
I loved this movie, and I loved watching my daughter while she watched it - she thought everything was fun - my daughter (who is 2 1/2) by the way - loves all sorts of movies (even scary, but that's for another time) - what she picks up on is how everyone smiles and the dancing and the colors... note to those who didn't like it - TELL US WHY!!!! I read reviews and straight negative ones with no explanation DON"T HELP!!!!! thanks!

Dumb
I liked the old movie better. J. Depp just overdid everything. He was so annoying that I stopped watching this movie.

Where are my green haired oompa-loompas?
While I thoroughly enjoyed the new version, I missed the nostalgia, the flaws and the dull colors of the old version. Worth seeing but should be followed by a screening of the original.

Not as good as the first one...
Really rather pointless and boring. Wonka is not a character to be admired here; rather, he is to be pitied.

Candy Crazy Movie
It's a fun movie, but it can some-what encourage children to eat lots of sweets. It's violent because of all if the mean children and how they treat Charlie. The film has bad role models because Mr. Willie Wonka ran away from home at a very young age just to taste all the candies of the world.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
RSKKZ Rating: KI for mild fantasy violence. What Rodni Says: What "concerns" me is that CSM thinks this movie has bad role models. Sure, some of the kids act badly, but they all learn their lessons by getting mutated in some way! Also, Charlie teaches Willy Wonka the importance of having a family. This should have 4 good message & roll model stars because everybody knows that all the kids and parents except Charlie are bad anyway! This movie is appropriate for ages 7+!

it was great!
This movie is excellent! I was pleasently surprised by the outcome of this remake and it was extremely funny, imaginative and just over all fun for the entire family!

Fun for the Whole Family!
This movie is a very good movie to watch as a family. What child doesnt dream of a world made of candy? Adults will even enjoy a remake of the classic movie. This movie is half a remake of the original movie, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, as well as the book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Good Movie
This remake isn't as good as the original movie but it is good because Johnny Depp makes an awesome Willy Wonka. I recomend this for kids 8-15 or for families to watch together.

HILARIOUS!!!!
i thought this movie was awesome!! i didnt see it when it first came out cuz of depp, i thought WHAT?? jack sparrow, willy wonka??? LOL but i was so wrong he did an amazing job!!! and actually this movie is closer to the book than the old one...and its way better i LOVE depp's lines! the cannibalism one is a classic but all of them are great u'll love him!!

Not the book, but still very nice
Pretty darn good. They were truer to book than in the first movie, and Johnny Depp did a pretty good Willy Wonka. The one thing I didn't like was when Charlie says(not verbitum) "can my family come to the factory, too?" and Willy Wonka says, in essence, "no". Very un-Wonka. There were a few more out-of-character bits, but overall, I'd say it's definetly enjoyable.

Very Funny
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory definitely isn't Tim Burton's best and it's not as good as the excellent book, but it's still hilarious and imaginative fun. Far better than the overrated original. Good for kids 5 or 6+

Totally Awesome!!!!!!
This movie was amazing. It was the first movie I have ever seen with Depp in it. He did a fantastic job. I watched it again and again. I loved Wonka's expresions with his eyes. I only think they used the word devil one time. Wonka turned to the kid and said,"You your the little devil who cracked the system." That was the only bad word I heard in the whole movie. This movie will have you laughing thoughout the whole thing. I like it 100% better than the old one. If you haven't seen this movie you nedd to see it now. It dosen't get any better than this.

I liked it. Plus, hell is not a bad word! I also thought it was slightly dark, but still some light peeking out in the movie. If you HATED the original you'll LOVE this one. I liked the 1st one and the remake. Pretty good, not bad.

Good Kid's Movie
I saw this movie with a few of my friends, and all of us had a great time. It was interesting, funny, and just different enough from the original version to still be interesting. Johnny Depp's character was very weird, but he did a good job in the role. The humor with the senial grandmother was a bit cruel, but funny all the same. This is a great movie for any child 6 and older.
