Bang bang, Chitty Chitty bang bang…

I like this film a lot because Roald Dahl was one of the screenwriters, and it's more about the Potts family than the car. I understand that lots of people were scared of this film because of the scene where the the Potts children fall for the Child Catcher’s "free candy" kidnapping scheme, but I don't mind that part.

54 years and counting!

I really love this film even though I haven’t seen it in a long time. The movie is about an inventor named Caractacus Potts (voiced by Dick Van Dyke) who has two children Jeremy and Jemima, and a grandpa that’s just named Grandpa Potts (His real name is not revealed yet) The two children didn’t want their car they were pretending to drive to be taken away, but after multiple hours, Caractacus Potts invents a car that flies and floats on water called Chitty Chitty Bang Bang because of the noises the car makes. Then comes Truly Scrumptious (I used to call her Julie) (voiced by Sally Ann Howes, anyway RIP to her, 1930-2021), who wears a beautiful white dress that looks like Mary Poppins’ jolly holiday dress. She is the love interest of Mr. Potts and they kiss at the very end of the movie, however the child catcher that captures Jeremy and Jemima could scare kids. It’s a musical from the late 60’s. What’s not to brag? There’s even a scene that Grandpa Potts fell from a very high distance and started crying during his birthday party, leaving Baroness Bomburst shocked. There’s even this adorable scene where Truly Scrumptious disguised herself as a wind up doll with Caractacus dressed up in a silly outfit. It’s been 54 years since this film came out to good reviews. Anyway, if you like fantasies and musicals released in the 1960s (more than 50 years ago), this movie is for you!

This movie is stupid, dumb, mean, and a complete freak show.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is not one of those very child friendly movies. The songs are well-performed but are just flat. Special effects aren't so good, and they look like they weren't practiced enough. Like there was one scene where they showed the same thing twice because the car didn't fly the first time going into intermission. The child catcher is a creep of all creeps and some of the bad characters are either cutthroats or clownish. Like the King says to two people "If you fail I will cut off your heads out" and "Executioner" and tries about four times to kill his wife up in the air or in a ballroom! The movie is very sad, starting from the grandpa was kidnapped to kids being kidnapped but they win in the end. The movie also has some suggestive dialogue in 2 long songs mainly about their inside feelings of love. This movie is a must not watch.

Wonderful

Apart from the child catcher being a little scary this film is fantastic. You could show this too any age but it may be boring for children less than five.

Annoying movie

The Songs are annoying and catchy, sometimes clever Extremely bad movie

Better than Marvel!

Pretty good movie, a little sex, but great role models to treat others kindly and help others even when you'd probably want to just help yourself.

NO kid should watch this!

I don't remember ANYTHING of the movie... except there was a dog in it, and a car named Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. (Until I watched the trailer, I had even forgotten it could fly!) So that's why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1: I can't remember enough to give it the worst rating. What I DO remember is that the first half was pretty fun, with some mild scares. But the second half I never watched. (I was 5-7 years old when I saw this movie.) I got to the factory (I think that's what it was), was absolutely terrified, and ran crying upstairs, where I played with my 3-5 year-old brother for the rest of the movie. (He had gone upstairs 20 minutes earlier.) My mom may have called me down to see the ending, but I can't remember that, either. It didn't give me nightmares, but I never wanted to see the rest, and to this day, I never have, and probably never will.
