Preferable... THE BOOK
The Chocolate War is a very interesting book, and so is the movie. Adolescents can relate to this kind of situation-- peer pressure. I prefer the book, it is VERY different from the movie and has way more detail.

Caution: Bloody ending, dialouge and some references
*=spoiler alert Violence: Jerry is beaten up a couple of times, *once heartbreaking by kids about 10 swinging at him.* The ending is very bloody, but brief. It shows blood that is obviously fake and cartoonish on *Archie's face*, which gets swung at in slow motion, and blood sprays the floor *of a boxing ring.* Sex: Jerry is called a fairy and is very offended. Some references to jacking off, one being it not personal. Drugs: Just teen smoking. Language: A lot of language. Everything heard is said in SpaceBalls, which Common Sense gave on for 11+. Positive stuff: Jerry and Goober support each other and like each other as friends., and but the fact they are up to a bad cause, Archie and Obie show being loyal to each other. Alternative MPAA rating: R for a bloody beating, bullying, strong language, sexual references, and smoking - All involving teens Why I rated 4/5: The ending is offtrack and wrong, which made this movie 13+ instead of 12. This is a must-see for all maturer fans of the book.
