Parents need to know that this enjoyable re-imagination of the Cinderella story has our heroine using her own resources, not the Fairy Godmother's, to win the Prince's heart. The evil stepmother is as bad as ever, and in a few short scenes, is downright menacing. A scary carriage ride has Cinderella careening toward a ravine in mortal danger. The Prince gets ample screen time, and his athletic heroism may even make this story appeal to the boys in the family.
Positive messages:Positive story of Cinderella drawing on her own skills to make her dream come true, instead of letting the Fairy Godmother do all the heavy lifting. One character starts off devious, but gains the courage to do the right thing. Two other characters who don't reform end up getting magical punishment. There's a nice father-son relationship characterized by mutual trust, respect, and affection.
Violence & scariness:Mild by some animated film standards, but still a food fight between two characters; and a nasty cat catches its tail on fire, is turned into a toy, then miniaturized, and is eventually thrown into a pond.
Consumerism:Cinderella is a Disney Princess, whose brand reaches far and wide. Expect to see
Princess branding on consumer merchandise, food products, etc. as well
as in books, websites, and other media.
I don't normally like princess movies, but I actually liked this one more than Cinderella 1 and 2. It had a pretty cool plotline and it had a good role model. Overall pretty good but a little overdone.
My 3 year old loved this movie - even moreso than Cinderella. There is no fastforwarding through chapters (ala the death of Cinderella's mom in the orignal). The movie is all good fun and even redeems a stepsister. Mom and kid approved.
As much as I hate to admit it, I love this movie. Cindy has to FIGHT for her happy ending this time around, because the magic is working against her. One of the villains turns out to not be so bad. I love the now-kind-of-infamous Carriage Scene. MAJOR nightmare fuel. The Prince has become a deadpan snarker in this movie. Clearly he's been taking some lessons from Prince Eric and Spiderman. (The three ARE voiced by the same guy...)
i love disney fairy tales. they are so cute and so timeless and i find- laugh if you want- that they have the prettiest songs. this cinderella didn't just become princess because she could dance, she worked for it. and it happened not because of magic, but in spite of it.
Just cuz she's cinderella doesn't mean she's dumb; SHE ROX!
Okay! so... I watched this movie with high hopes and I found that it was awesome, cute music, good morals, and anastacia really isn't all that bad of a girl, i thought it was pretty cute and I'd definetely reccommend it to anyone because it's adorable!!!
