The first half is mature but the second half is tame.

I first read the book for my school's literature club my junior year and fell in love with it. Sure, it's extremely violent and very sexual, especially once 'viddied' in the film, but that shouldn't make anyone dismiss it because it really is an amazing film. Obviously most parents would not want their children watching such acts of violence and definitely not the rape and nudity, but for teenagers and adults who have seen plenty of that in real life and other movies, it's fine... if you don't have a problem with it, of course. All I'm saying is that the movie is a masterpiece (hello, look at all the awards it won/was nominated for) and has a great philosophical message about the importance of choice in life (one of my favourite quotes ever: ?"When a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man."). Like most great works of art that include many things that may be considered taboo to certain groups, A Clockwork Orange surely pushes boundaries as a film and as a piece of modern literature (and social commentary). The violence and sexuality are central to the plot and therefore indispensable in a film like this. For teenagers especially, like myself and my peers, the movie is best watched from a subjective and artistic point of view as obviously we shouldn't go around dispensing the old 'in-and-out' or 'ultra-violence' to random people. It's a great movie for those who appreciate literature and good old cult classics with a message, like I do. Oh, but there is a problem with the film that differs it from the novella and might just tip the minds of those who say that it doesn't have a good message: the last chapter. Kubrick's adaptation leaves out Burgess' final chapter in which Alex meets up with his former droog Pete who is married, which makes him rethink his goal in life. If this is taken into account, the whole message of the story is definitely positive as it tells us that not only do we, as humans, require autonomy to live properly, but that we should always be looking to improve ourselves because even those who were once bad (and were brainwashed to be good and then allowed to choose to be bad again) may end up deciding (on their own) to become better citizens. (And don't forget the social/political commentary on totalitarianism and how governments should deal with crime)

I stopeed this movie after 20 minutes because of its sickness but then I started to think about and just decided to watch it and it surprised me! 20 years of age and older be careful about this mature film.

Excellent movie, one of the best ever made. The only thing inappropriate about this film was the nudity, teens know what people of both genders look like so I do not consider that a problem. Anybody who has seen saw, hostel etc has seen something 50 times more violent/graphic than this movie. It is a movie that everyone should see in their life time. The first time I saw this I was 10 and it didn't bother me in the least bit. It is extremely thought provoking and unique/bizarre. I would recommend it to everyone.

i believe that this is an amazing movie that i would love to show my kids especially because they need to understand what the real world is like.

This films sucks, I don't understand how any one could like it. It has disturbing violence, bad language, sex, rape, drugs all involving teens. These teens are literally obsessed with this stuff, and they enjoy doing it. They beat people up, and brutally rape women. A young lad kills an innocent woman horribly, smashing her face in. They all just do everything they shouldn't be doing. They all take drugs, in milk. There are 2 uses of f**k, infrequent uses of s**t, but frequent uses of bas****. I hate it, and considering it was made in the 70's, it's is so, so violent and disturbing

love this movie!! iv'e always wanted to see it ever since i was little & saw the cover of it every time i would pass it at Blockbuster. But at least I was mature enough to see it as art from my point of view. I'm 17. I finally saw it when I was either 15 or 16. Of course not all parents will see it as art. If I had kids I wouldn't let them watch this movie 'til they were at least 17 lol Definatly recommend it for mature older teens.

my favorite movie of all time. i first watched it when i was 14 and that was definitely too young. my mind couldn't get past the shock so i wasn't able to see the message in the movie. when i was 17 i got the real point of the movie which is- "when a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man." alex becomes a clockwork orange by being able to only do good works after the treatment. By a clockwork orange i mean that he is like a machine that is wound up and set to be "your true christian." he is filled with sweetness like an orange, but it is artificial hence, a clockwork orange. most people 17 and over will be able to grasp this message if they are willing to think about the movie, and not just watch it for entertainment. extremely good movie, just try to sit through the horror and dig for the message. it is well worth it.
